I'd keep Hogg, Matmour, Duane Holmes, Hudson. Cranie? honestly our defence is a massive improvement when he isn't playing.

Myself, i find the idea we'd release Cranie but keep Hudson a little absurd. Cranies a good player to have in the squad. Looks a quality footballer in a couple of roles.

Based on what I witnessed of Boyle when I saw York at AFC Wimbledon a couple of weeks ago I'd give him a further 12 months. As soon as Town are safe this season I'd like Boyle to make a start for Town just to see how he does and maybe it'll help DW make up his mind. Needs more than one game for any opinion to be valid. Recall us signing 2 guys from Mansfield many many years ago on the evidence of one cup game against us. Right pair of lemons we ended up with. All this talk of who would you keep, who would you release would be so much easier if had insight as to whom DW has sorted out for next season.

Cranie isn't exactly a brilliant defender at this level. Though he is solid enough to be a 3rd choice centre back (or fill in at right back).
Hudson, however, is only getting slower, worse in the air and wasn't exactly a footballing centre half in the first place. His off field character isn't enough to warrant keeping him in my eyes. He's not the only player good for the changing room.

I see joe Wright as direct competition for will Boyle and he has featured a lot for Accrington Stanley this season and has also played for Wales u21s so I wud pick him over Boyle. I would also like to see jack senior get a pro deal and be back up to Chris Lowe next year. Goalkeeping situation needs looking at with Allinson n wilczynski released then surely tadgh Ryan will be 3rd Choice n move up to our u21s

Matmour and Hogg for me. Matmour looks a good player to me and fits with Wagner. Hogg with Billing and Whitehead would mean we don't need to be looking at any new DMs and we know they can all do a decent job.
Maybe give Holmes and Boyle 2 year deals and ship them out on a season long loan to League 1.
Crainie and Hudson, not fussed either way really. I feel like Hudson will get a year offered but may want more so could leave anyway. Crainie will probably leave.

Perhaps a new club might be what Holmes needs in order to push on? Been at Town since he was 9 year old, he's been on the fringes for 3 years but never really threatened for a regular place. Change might do him some good. Saw him a few years ago in a youth game at QPR looked by a mile to be Towns best player. Does just not seem to have progressed as expected. I think I saw him playing against a Leeds U18 side about four years ago too and he was superb.

Not quite sure how you can link my comment about Boyle to Town's signing of Eccles and McCaffrey almost 40 years ago! I'd like Town to be in the position where DW can pick Boyle to start a game (assuming York's and Town's situation allows him to return) just to have a look at him; if he does well then perhaps DW will be sufficiently persuaded to give Boyle an extension.

h Keep them, Hudson can still do a job. Matmour looks ok too. Ok let's just focus on the Hudson bit. You said this not that long ago regarding Hudson. Dont get how wagner thinks hes good downatthemac.proboards.com/thread/99802/hudson?page=6You'd keep him but don't get how Wagner thinks he's good? But you'd bin Craine? Don't do drugs kids.

Cranie has played 26 games for over 60 minutes this season and the stats back you up. We have lost 58% of those 26 games. When he has been left out the loss percentage goes down to 17%. Obviously not all down to him but don't think it is just coincidence.

Seem to remember somebody saying that Hoyle "wants to go for it" next season. We won't be going anywhere unless we significantly improve the defence and that means a back up role at best for Hudson. Holmes & Boyle should both be given an extra year to continue their development, but the rest can go for me (maybe keep Cranie). Hogg? Ignore Frankiesleftpeg, he has never rated Hogg, but thinks every player that comes through the ranks will be a world-beater! #deluded

Sweeney's name didn't ring a bell so I checked and he didn't play against York. I've seen AFCW 5 or 6 times this season and I don't recall Sweeney at all. So there you go. Where you heard Town are interested? Another tip on an Exeter prospect....note the name, Ollie Watkins, tall young forward but looking good as an attacking midfielder. Saw him at Crawley yesterday and he made the opener beautifully and scored the second. Eddie Howe was there watching apparently.....

nobody knows what wagner and Dean have planned..new arrivals numbers may be higher than anticipated..names mentioned may not even be in the thoughts for contract extension talks.. This. We are all giving our opinions based on what we have now. Only Deano and DW will know how many new players they want to bring in, which will be the deciding factor for all those out of contract. Pointless guessing really. Exactly, plus it wouldn't surprise me if it's also based on the square root of fuck all in some cases. Who here really has a clue about Boyle or Wright for that matter, the latter who was regularly playing for promotion chasing Accrington. Opinions for opinion's sake. Yep, long day at work and England are back to being boring Edit- it wasn't a daft rant, I've read the rest of the thread and it's fucking ridiculous. People on about getting rid of players when we don't know who we're bringing in and particular in respect of youngsters they've possibly never seen kick a ball.

I'd keep 1 of Hudson or Cranie as back up to a new partner to Lynch. Although I suspect Hudson will be a mainstay of the side as Wagner really likes him in the side. Not convinced with Matmour, I'd sign him if Paterson isn't staying. Wondering if one of the continental players we've got lined up on a permanent as well as Lowe is Matmour. I know he gets lots of stick on here but I would definitely keep Hudson for one more season and let Cranie go. I wouldn't have a problem starting next season with Lynch and Hudson as first choices. We would need quality back up of course. One or two quality players who would step in when needed for injuries, suspensions, rotation and loss of form and at some stage permanently. Over the course of this season in the 18 games Lynch and Cranie have played at least 60 minutes we average 1.61 points per game. Without one or both of them only 0.80 points per game. Over a season it would be totals of 74 or 37 points. I know I will get knocked down by people saying stats are distorted by quality of opposition, etc but the records are not far off a full season. Keep Cranie and get rid of Tommy Smith

I'd be a bit disappointed if we kept both Hudson and Cranie. For me they're too associated with the current stench of our defence. Maybe keep Hudson for the apparent positive effect he has on the youngsters, but otherwise we need wholesale changes at the back.

Sweeney was an unused sub that game, so his period of "ever presence" was about six weeks by the look of it. Mind you, he's just signed a new contract so AFCW are protecting themselves.

Have read everyone's comments I think I'd not renew any of the nine.
We aren't gonna go anywhere so long as Hudson is a mainstay. His legs have gone. What a manager does & says when he has no option means very little.
Hogg I've always liked for what he offers and he recently had his best spell. Far too injury prone though. You need consistency and reliability- build up relationships. Not a guy who plays 4/7 each month.
Watford probably knew something we didn't with hogg.
Crainey was a Powell stop gap. Ok but not good enough in any position to hold it down as his own.
Rest not good enough.

Was not a direct link just an observation. If DW wants a look at him might be better to see him at York, playing him here could possibly look out of his depth and might be very unfair to the lad. Yes Terry Eccles recall him, for all the wrong reasons!

NB- i wouldn't necessarily have disagreed at the beginning of the season. Sorry we must watch different games, who was it who was beaten at the back post at Leeds making no attempt to jump or even see where his man was. Still not comfortable on the ball ( has improved) but not championship standard.

He's done much more than merely improved, anyone who doesn't form an opinion and sticks with it no matter what would acknowledge this. The only reason I'd be offloading him would be for a fee, we're getting better in and Wagner is happy for Hanson to be back-up.
