Seems we have extended Murphy's contract. So currently he's our only experienced keeper for next year. Consensus is that Allison will never get a chance at Town So why are we trialling young lads from Liverpool, Everton, Stoke, West Ham, Man City and PSV? Will they come in as our third choice keeper? Can't see Murphy as first choice and a lad who's never played a league game as No.2 Where does that leave our talented youngsters such as Tadhg Ryan?

Didn't the club extend Murphy's deal by a year some time ago? For me he isn't good enough to be here but, as with the kangaroo at left back, we need two people for the job and until we can afford to pay competitive salaries, we will have some shit in the squad.

U. in George Dorrington. Played against Cardiff yesterday and had a good game. This is the time of year when clubs are preparing to jettison some of their young players. (Duanne Holmes?) to make room for the next set of hopefulls, nothing wrong with having a look.

Allinson, good young keeper? No. Won't make it.
Should've been released years ago and stalled the progress of ed wilczynski.

The problem is that keepers are expected to come through to the first team at the same age as outfield players, despite their development curve being longer and their peak years much later.
I think we have been blessed with Smithies due to him breaking into the first team at a young age and cementing his place for a number of years until we sold him. I can't remember the last keeper we had who did that, and I don't see it happening again any time soon.
I highly doubt Allinson will make it at town but that's not to say he won't go on to have a successful career elsewhere. Just because he isn't ready for C'ship football right now doesn't mean he never will be, but unfortunately we aren't in the position where we can throw him into the first team and hope he improves quickly. I want us to go for a more experienced keeper this time round (and one that's better than Murphy).

Hasn't played much at all this season and I believe a u16 goalkeeper was picked ahead of him not very long ago. If he does get a new deal after this season I think he will be backup in the u21s. But I think the reason we have had so many young keepers on trial is that the club don't rate any of our current ones and will release all of them in the summer. Murphy will be staying here as experienced backup, then we will sign a first choice keeper in the summer (Steer?) and one of the trialists maybe for the u21 squad and for the future.

From the limited times I've seen them, I'd agree with your assessment of Allinson and Wilczynski. To me, Ed had real potential, but hasn't he been told already he'll be released in the summer? Never got near the first team whereas Allinson's been on the fringes.

Murphy is always injured so we need another one in too. Dont old/broken keepers always hang around for a couple of years doing a bit of coaching and sharing experience with the young lads, in the hope of getting 2 or 3 appearances on the bench to cover for suspensions and injuries? We'll NEED three keepers we dont mind throwing in next season with the reduced loan market wont we?

Not a brilliant source, I know, but link"MANCHESTER UNITED goalkeeper George Dorrington has joined Huddersfield on trial ahead of a permanent move in the summer." That's one of the 2 keepers Dean said we were signing, you have to assume the next one will be our number one for next season with this lad competing with Murphy for the 2nd spot and ultimately becoming our future first choice keeper.

I hope this is true as this lad sounds a solid prospect and seems to have played well in the games he has played in

He's only 18. I would have thought he will come into U21's & bring 2 more in.

Pretty sure his Dad did or at least used to post on here. I always thought Tadhg Ryan was a good prospect and would be better than Allinson & Ed W. Ryan Schofield has been playing in nets for the u18's & 21's recently and is a very good prospect, been at town for a long time, signed from Lepton and is rated very highly by everyone up there. Will he make it? - too early to tell but from what I know he has a great chance, very keen to learn and really suits the whole club ethos when it comes to the academy

Lloyd should have been given a chance by town been here since 12 year old and now been told he is released all he ever wanted was a chance don't believe he stalled ed wilczynski development at all we have another junior keeper nobody mentions Sam Guthrie Ian Bennett brought him to club & I remember him been poor on that Salford documentary

Sounds like a lot are being turfed out anyway, not heard anything about Charles, Boyle or Wright for next season yet but you'd think there's a strong likelihood some of them will be off too.

Town are in talks with Wright. Boyle wants football so expect him to leave and Charles has another year. FWIW having seen Allinson and Wilczynski - Ed was the better keeper and more likely to make it. Allinson will struggle to get a conference club.

I've also been told several times that Simon Eastwood is never going to make it either. Has he made it? Hasn't played for Blackburn in 2 and a half years, released by Halifax for not being good enough and only got a gig at Pompey because they were financially in the mire. All of this from a Keeper who IMO is a lot better than Allinson.

I've also been told several times that Simon Eastwood is never going to make it either. and forty league games in the past 7 years would suggest that he isn't going to make it as anything other than a back-up although there is still plenty of time I suppose. Never been that impressed with him and was amazed when Blackburn signed him up. Got game time at Pompey partly due to their dire financial state at the time but then did develop a bit there. I'd be very surprised if he plays at this level again, but he's still got a good 10-15 years as a keeper so who knows. Remember him being more highly rated than Smithies at Youth Level, but then Smithies kicked on.
