Alan Green (sitting next to Robbie Savage) has just said the football in the first half of the Champions League semi-final was 'awful'. That's funny Alan because I saw it on TV and it seemed to me to be a compelling contest between two top quality teams. Does this guy have any idea of how skillful these players are?

To be honest, I was pretty disappointed with that first half. Somewhat unsurprisingly Ronaldo is missed. I suppose first legs can often be cagey affairs.
0-0 wouldn't be the worst score for Man City to go to Madrid with.

It's been a very dull game to watch as a spectacle so far. No denying the skill and tactical ability on show though. Madrid have obviously come to sit deep and use the pace on the break and are doing a very good job of it so far.

No away goal for the opposition and a chance to get an away goal in the secong leg. Mind you wasn't that good for us v Millwall in play off semi under LC?

Do you really think there's any prospect of city not losing in Madrid..I'll be honest I don't

Means a score draw is good enough for them. I won't be putting any more on them, though.

Alan Green is a miserable XXXX. I remember him describing Ronaldo as a show pony who needed to grow up and learn how to play football when he first appeared on the scene at Man Utd.

Anyone who thought that was a good game of football is either very deluded or drunk.

Anyone who thought that was a good game of football is either very deluded or drunk. Anyone who thought it was no good because it was not 'entertaining' enough probably grew up in England, in a football culture where goalmouth incident is all that matters. There were many misplaced passes but that was because of the need each team had to move the ball as quickly as possible in order to get anywhere, and because of the fact that everyone was so tightly marked.

Are you a kind of bearded football hipster who gets irritated by people getting excited ? You can dress it up all you like but as a spectacle for the average Joe it was poor fayre.. they had billed it as their biggest game ever and they were tepid . I bet it had the city diehards pining for the days when they were whooping us

Goal mouth action, and shots, do make a game of football more entertaining though. Always has. Always will. Continually passing it around in midfield and going nowhere leads to folk being bored. It's football not chess.

I tried my best to see the artistic content in this game, 22 artisans at the peak of their clubs ambitions displaying their wares... that smooth rolled ball to your fellow CB stood 10 yards away..how the ball rolled so perfectly - and then how the CB slipped in a cunning pass to the RB..straight to him, perfect 15 yard pass, I was gobsmacked, then the devious return ball back to CB from the RB...I could see the opposition looking on in awe.... but the creme de la creme was the ball then played back 25 yards..with stunning accuracy..to the goalkeeper...well I was out of my chair at that, but there was more , as the goalie swiftly rolled the ball out to the LB stood by the touchline..this was just getting too much for me, I could feel my heart racing..but the pièce de résistance for me was the deft way the LB played the ball back to the CB...completing a pure circuit of ball movement ..pure artistry..this was art in it's truest form surely, poetry even ....sadly I missed the rest because I think I nodded off ..

Sounds like the game was "one for the purists". How I dislike that condescending phrase.

I watched the latter stages and couldn't believe the gay abandon with which man city were giving the ball away .. how much did sterling cost ? He is sooo far from a finished product .. if he ever will be one .. meanwhile he has probably got a yacht and a jet and can afford all the sky packages .. it's an obscene world we live in

Shouldn't even be in the squad IMO

I too only caught the end (took the kids to The Jungle Book - now that is entertainment!) and, as I've mentioned previously and is pointed out above, was shocked at how poor Sterling's first touch was/is. It was always going to be a tight, cagey affair. Tonight should be a better game.

Shouldn't all these jungle book posts go in a separate jungle book thread ? :-) It's probably worth one. Am I allowed to start one or is that Nick's job?! Back on topic, I think tonight will be better. Simeone will see the home leg as their big chance, go all out for a win and his team will be fired up and get stuck in. Godin is a big loss in that respect!
