The only German i know is "Gross Bier Bitte". After you've had several Bierkrüge, you'll need to be able to ask "Wo sind die Toiletten?" as well "Wo kann ich Curry-/Brat-/Bockwurst kaufen?"

So, if the squad included Merson, Thomo, Le Tiss and Charlie Nicholas it would be a "JeffStelling" Typo, I obviously meant Aufstellung instead!

Wagner, gib uns eine Welle. Ha ha, that type of Welle is a , as in tides and sea!! Try Wagner, Wagner wink uns zu. (vink uns tsu) Here's a few more: Luepfer = lob Kasten = goal (thing you shoot into) Treffer = goal (as in goals scored) Wells hat schon 18 Treffer. Durststrecke = goal drought Schlusslicht = bottom team in league (literally tail light) Hackentrick = backheel Fallrueckzieher = overhead kick Schwalbe = dive. as in Robben Luedenscheid = Schalke fans derogatory name for Dortmund. cf Beeston for L***s Schnitzer or Patzer = mistake as in goalie letting in a soft shot

Well not a day passes by now, where Town are linked with every available player from Germany, Tammo Harder, Max Grün et al. So I thought it would be useful if we, as supporters embraced the Wagner Revolution (Wagner Umwälzung) and readied ourselves for the influx of German players by learning a few key football words and phrases: Fußball spielen = Play football Fußball mannschaft = Football Team Stürmer = Striker Verteidiger = Defender Mittelfeldspieler – Midfielder Tor = Goal Ecke = Corner Einwerfen = Throw in Elfmeter = Penalty Freistoß = Free Kick Rote Karte = Red Card Gelbe Karte = Teltow card Aus Aus Aus = Off Off Off Schiedstrichter or Kampfrichter = Referee Linienrichter = Linesman (for the politically correct the term used is Schiedsrichter Assistant – Referees Assistant) Foul = Foul Abseits = Offside Abstoß = Goal Kick Handball = Handball Halbzeit = Half Time Vollzeit = Full Time Zehn meter = 10 yards Gewinnen = Win Mauer = Wall Willkommen = Welcome Die Deutschen kommen = The Germans are coming Ich bin Englander = I am English Of course I love it when a German pronounces the word Video as WIDEO. I am hoping SODEXO might start selling Bratwurst Great post.

With all this interest in German words and the many Town fans who seem to know a fair bit about the lingo, I find it embarrassing that everyone associated with either the club or Radio Leeds (shame on you Oggie) pronounces our manager as "Wagner" instead of "Vargner". It really is tinpot: it's not as if it's a difficult word to say. After all I've never heard anybody mispronounce the composers name. I know the manager has said he doesn't mind how we pronounce his name but I bet he's only being diplomatic.

I thought because his Dad was American then it IS Wagner and not Vargner.
He doesn't seem arsed either way, so neither am I. You say Tomato I say Potato, let's call the whole thing off...or summat like

You say Tomato I say Potato, let's call the whole thing off...or summat like He was born in Germany, lived all his life in Germany, his mother is German and Wagner is a German name. I would suggest that he will never have never been called "Wagner" until he arrived in Huddersfield, apart from when he was with the US football team. Americans only pronounce the name as Wagner because they're rubbish at foreign languages. As I said, anyone who doesn't pronounce his name properly is tinpot in my eyes.

I know the manager has said he doesn't mind how we pronounce his name but I bet he's only being diplomatic. Maybe he genuinely doesn't care. If he's spent time with Americans calling him Wagner, he'll be used to it, so if Radio Leeds are talking about him better the Wagner Revolution is a good thing than Vargner Told Us How to Say His Name. Remember when Andrew Cole did that?
