Not a huge surprise, that. Thought West Bromwich might have been some time in the thirties, but obviously not.

Only 23 clubs have ever won a Championship, so whilst quite a long wait since our last, the majority of the football clubs have spent longer waiting for their first!

I think there is a list somewhere that I have seen in a similar vein which concerns 'wait to return to top flight of English football'. We are pretty high on that at 44 years and counting but Preston are higher still at over 50 years, I think. Not sure who is top.

Its only us and preston that haven't played in the premier league (that have won the old first division)

Thanks Nick for my opportunity to point out that this was our first win in 34 league matches, since we returned to the Championship, against our first six opponents this season. We've now beaten everyone at least once except Hull, Brighton (can these two find a way to go up together?), Fulham(!), QPR and Cardiff. There will be at least four to add next season when I expect us to beat all of them.

And yet , 90 years later still nobody has won it more times in a row . Our place as one of the all time great teams should never be in doubt .

Only 23 clubs have ever won a Championship, so whilst quite a long wait since our last, the majority of the football clubs have spent longer waiting for their first! This is what a lot of people don't realize and when you add in that Newcastle's wait is one year less than ours you can see that winning the Championship is a tough task.

Noticeable that non of the winners are no longer in the Football League. Wonder who, out of them all has come closest to non league football? Can't remember Towns lowest ever position in the 4th division, but the teams lowest ever positions would also make an interesting stat I imagine. Fairly sure we'd be in the top four for that too. It would of course have to be based purely on a period from when there were four divisions, not a division three north and south.
