We're much more rounded individuals because of it (no not because of the pies) taking the easy option and saying you're a Man U/Chelsea/L666ds fan or however were top at the time was like being born with a silver spoon in your mouth, no hardship no backbone, think yourself lucky we've been crap its been good for you

The early years were fun for me despite our lowly league position, 75-79 i knew nothing else. I went to live in Manchester for two years aged about 21...seriously got the piss taken for my team and my dress sense The McDonald season was bilge but i missed most of it as i was on a round-the world trip and heard the Man City score on the BBC world service in Oz. Being a Town fan has never been tough for me, there is always another game around the corner, the beer, the craic. I moan if we are top and if we are bottom.

The real pain was the consultant told me we had lost wasn't until wife came down to pick up my son that I knew the result

Went into my new boss's office on 9/11/1987 to meet him. He was sipping tea from a Man City mug.

I'm with Otium.....never been tough for me being a Town fan.......loved every game. The best times were the bad seasons. I was one of the 1680 in '79. Are the other 1679 on here?

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. It's those years that I regard as the most special. Hardly anyone in my class at school going to Town matches. Getting a hard time for having my school books and soccer kit in a Town bag. Builds up resilience.

Yep, having being in a crowd of 51000 plus (unofficial) for the Sheff Wed 5th round match in 1966, what I can't remember is why Town payed 10 games in 26 days?, the 4 - 0 at Macclesfield was the one time I echoed Brian Stimpson's 'hope' quotation - (John Cleese) from 'Clockwise'

Salendine nook had a cheating rugby ref called Mr oakes . He should have seen Town alright.😉

Not the 10 - 1 at Man City.
Not the Brum relegation game.
Not the Fulham 1999/2000 game.
Not getting a smack on the nose at Burnley mid 80s (I'm not a scrapper)
Definitely not the coach trip back on the Chillie Wagon from god knows how many places we'd been hammered at in the mid to late 80s.
1972 Birmingham away FA Cup Quarter Final. Bob Latchford breaking David Lawson's arm, not even booked, he should have gone to jail. Lost 3 -1. I was only 9!!! Still cry about it now.

1992 was by far the toughest time for me as a Town fan, not for football reasons (although there were some tough results to take - Peterborough springs to mind) but on a personal level. Town was something I did with my dad, however in the February my dad was diagnosed with cancer, I was 13 at the time. As a result of that and his treatment it meant we missed quite a bit of the run in for that season - throughout his treatment we talked about town and that would lift his spirits. After surgery he seemed to be getting better and he managed to get to the final home game of that season which was Torquay at home where we won 4-0, that was the last game I attended with him.
Unfortunately the cancer returned and we were told in the September it was terminal. I still remember telling the people who sat around us for a number of years (an elderly couple who were active with YCCC and a bloke called Glen who I think was something to do with Huddersfield Accident Centre) that he wouldn't be coming again, obviously they didn't know what to say and tried to console a now 14 year old boy. My last conversation with my dad was on 17th October to tell him about Town beating Hull City away, think we scored a late winner - however by then the cancer had spread and he struggled to understand what I was telling him. He passed away the next day in Kirkwood Hospice.
After that my mum came to games with me for a bit, but it wasn't the same and it took a while for me to rediscover my enthusiasm for Town. Thankfully it has returned and I now go with 2 of my 3 boys (youngest is too young at the moment to attend).

Its never really bothered me where Town are in the league as I'm always going to follow them. However, flogging Frank Worthington and later Marcus Stewart were very low points. Wonder what the feeling was when Dennis Law was flogged - I suppose that had a bit of purpose about it at least.

I drove from London to Hudds for the night game we lost 2-1 to Posh in the playoffs, back in the 90s. I got a written warning for skiving off work early, too. The latter would have been worth the sacrifice if...

Used to leave home in Thornhill Lees at 2.35 for 3 pm kick offs ( or in the case of the Torquay game 7.05 pm for a 7.30 pm start)and still have plenty of time to spare before the match started. We still had heroes in a poor team - Terry Gray, Micky Butler, Steve Baines et al.

2 Town goalkeepers' in 2 F.A cup ties in 1971 and 1972. Ended Terry Poole's career at the top level.

Sounds stupid but having seen Stewart sold, been relegated by Birmingham, the playoff final defeat to Peterborough and many more, I've never been more deflated than that 1-0 home win against MK Dons under Powell.

Missus is a Bradford fan so had to sit through a few Town victories at VP without letting on that I was a Town fan.
Saying that, the toughest BCFC-related event was a Bradford-Swindon game. Bradford had bossed the first half and had taken a 1-0 lead around the 60th. Missus went to the toilet, returned to Bradford being 3-1 down within about 2 minutes. The happiest moment of my life and I had to keep it all in.
That 1-0 Frank Sinclair goal win against Millwall in the freezing fog was pretty grim too though.

Has to be the Man City 10-1 game.
I was best man for a RAF mate in Rugby, rumours all afternoon that town were getting drubbed, I didn't get confirmation until I rolled out of a nightclub at about 2am and spotted a Sporting Pink or Green, there it was plastered over the front page. I got so much stick from the other wedding goers that'd gone on the lash afterward, the only consolation was I went home with one of the bridesmaids that night, and met up with the other the following night.

1) Old Trafford play-off final. Not only the performance and result, but the weather and of course the behaviour of Batley's answer to the Bacon family.
2) Sale of Marcus Stewart.
3) That cup game v. Reading (Powell's first season) where we were marginally less shite than them but lost 1-0. On that day, I could understand people who don't follow football!
4) Losing to Peterborough in the semifinal of the 1992 play-offs. I was only 10 then but it was my first experience of failure as a town fan.

I was there, in the middle of their Spion Kop, Three 15 year old lads all shiting ourselves. The game was a disaster thanks to Latchford (again) Terry Dolan went in goals, no keeper on the bench in those days. On the journey home the coach passed Aston Villa ground, also drawn at home that day, Villa fans bricked in every window of the coach, we were cowering on the floor covered in broken glass. Definitely one of my most memorable away trips.

Honestly, if you found it the toughest time being a Town fan in the Powell era, I can only assume you've supported them since about 2014.
