Said it weeks ago, once you think that Wagner is taking us down, and Allardyce would keep us up, then I'd make the call.
But it's Dean's club, and we all know he's said that Wagner will be with us in the championship should it come to that.
The next discussion after that, is what would Wagner achieve with this club in the championship. I think our promotion season was very much a one off for us, and for Wagner tbh.

I know Dean has said Wagner will still be Manager if we go down, but I seriously reckon Wagner would leave anyway, so would Dean's Loyalty be reciprocated? (that's not me saying wagner should go btw) There's a fine line. Would another manager be able to get any better out of these players? It's a difficult call.

It's immaterial, anyway. Fat Sam is nailed on for Cardiff when they sack Warnock in December.

Do you really think he’d risk putting a relegation on his CV by taking over one of the worst squads the Premier League has seen? All of his other jobs have been underperforming teams with some quality to work with. You can’t polish a turd at this level.

The players there would suit his favoured tactics too.

Although I fully accept that our slow, conservative passing style is not working, I fail to see how direct long ball tactics would suit our current squad. Yes, we have a couple of strikers who could play as target men, but the vast majority of our players are ball players. How would Billing and Mooy fit into a direct side? I'd rather we didn't throw out the baby with the bath water. We need to modify our passing style by introducing more speed into our play - less touches and crisper passing. We need to get more players running beyond the ball and giving us more forward options. Easier said than done, but that should be the intention. We need to be faster and more direct, but by modifying our passing style, not abandoning it completely. I genuinely believe that would improve our results.

It's a results business and Dean is totally wrong by giving the green light to David Wagner for this season. He got his 'you won't be sacked whatever last season'. I'm telling you Dean you're wrong on this. Moyes if he would come, would be my choice before we're back to championship and floating down at the bottom at that. No sentiment in Football, this dross Wagner is serving up is going nowhere fast. We didn't sign a striker how mental was that with our very poor goals scored over the last 3 years. Dean, you said" there's two ways to skin a cat" without spending on quality, coming home to roost with the rubbish we've ended up with this term, I guess/hope our targets didn't materialize or we just wouldn't pay the wages.
Like the Stranglers song "Something's better Change"

more 'direct' in towns case for me means more running with the ball, more longer diagonals and more first time/earlier balls into the box...
if we ever pass it forward for someone to run onto it might be a start...
players getting the ball on the half turn seems a thing of the past..
direct isn't just lumping it up and trying to get the knockdown...
circulating and re circulating the ball is effective only when you do it at speed with the numbers to make it work...thats not going to happen here with this squad..

Genuine interest Ted, no wummery. How long would you give him and who would you go for if / when he goes ? Seen Moyes mentioned below, no ta. I’d twist and sooner go down the manager merry go round then stick and drop out without competing. Sam is proven, that’s my only “in” Game has changed, accept that. But no excitement over these signings, they could be world beaters but how long to Ternant Gel! . Always concerned me there’s no “proven” Prem or even championship players coming into our team .... It’s heavy heart stuff for me. He’s earned his right to manage, but how long is too long?! Not checked but read on here, 1 win in 16. No other club would accept that. Promotion or otherwise. As mentioned below, I think our promotion was such a fluke I couldn’t see him repeat it again. I am shit faced though, so .... Keep the faith, punching above our weight yadda yadda. Bournemouth, Burnley. We CAN do it, but may need a change and quick .... ??

I don’t think “direct” bypasses the midfield. I didn’t say Howard Wilkinson 😁 Sams had some ball players in his teams over the years. They keep clean sheets and they score goals, set pieces, headers. Who wouldn’t take that now? Appreciate the response though, not entirely dismissing it. See your point, just think if the change you mention was forthcoming it would have happened already ... he’s changed his approach massively. This is not gegenpressing for me. It’s crap. And I believe we are better than what we are showing ...

DW isn't the issue, recruitment of quality is the issue. I understand and respect the policy of buying potential but in doing so it means you are gambling on those players realising that potential. At the moment I think that in a couple of areas on the pitch we lack the quality.
As DH said it's a Billionaires game in the Premier League, DH is great but he's not a Billionaire. It's a simple equation - you generally get what you pay for.
To have got to and had two seasons in the Premier League is fantastic. Stability through the club is wonderful too but sustaining this level, let alone progressing, on this policy cannot be guaranteed. You can't expect DW to keep getting extra from players. I don't think any manager would do much better, if at all, than DW with the players available.
No one is being dishonest , no one isn't trying but it is likely to be very difficult to sustain Premier League football year on year with this policy. Not impossible with excellent recruitment but very tough.
This all means it's a tough reality and also a tough watch. It is however our identity and unless we are taken on by a new owner with deeper pockets it is an identity we have to follow.
Talk of sacking DW is daft. There's no loss of spirit, effort is there, the atmosphere at the club is good but if you are quite good enough in some key areas you will struggle.
That's the reality and it's a reality I expect. Unless something looks like badly deteriorating I can live with it knowing that financially we should be able to compete at a lower level and get back and go again. If we did yo-yo I'm afraid unless our recruitment was outstanding we'd have the same problem.
Debate it all you want but that us the bottom line.

The only people who will get the manager the sack are the "supporters". The..."supporters", will put pressure on the chairman who will have no option in the end. Unfortunately this "knees-up-mother-Brown" reaction reflects the way football is today.
