played 42 won 6, drawn 13, lost 23..scored 27, conceded 59, points (new system) 31...1971/72 season. played 23 won 2, drawn 5, lost 16..scored 13, conceded 40, points 11 ....this season. Do you think Ian Greaves took the lads away to Butlins for a mid season jaunt ? And do you think a reasonable number of today's players down a boatload of beer within a few days of a match. Not saying I agree or disagree, but the constant unfavourable comparisons with the blinkered views of yesteryear do my nut in. You need to put your head back on, chill out and just accept this was a light hearted jibe about taking the players away.....(ie wind your neck back in..headless or not) ...

Just watching the You Tube video of his first training session. Appears to be very hands on and involved in many parts of the drills. Very enthusiastic and passionate. Also Hudson fully involved in the training sessions and no sign of Buhler or Hughes. Also think I saw Mooy training!! Seen videos of Pep doing the same kind of thing with Raheem so in good company. Yes it looks good. After the press conference yesterday and watching this today it looks a great start for JS!! Hope they bring it onto the pitch for the last 15 games. So I guess it's looking like JS, Winkler and Hudson as the first team coaching team??!! Clements was on the clip so assuming he's staying as goalkeeping coach

Best post in there... I can't see him going. They are in freefall, we are on the up, and we've got more potential. The end. You've got to wonder what planet some football fans occupy

Only coaching team.... seemed set to be assistant manager.
Hughes going then? Hudson assistant manager, Winkler head first team coach?

Triggered a buy out clause in Winkler's contract, substantial amount in compensation to Barnsley.

Really gutted about this. Its been a pleasure to listen to his interviews, openness, honesty and positivity after the scorn and bitterness and entrenchment of some of our past interviewees.
I understand his move completely and wish him well. But I feel for Stendel. His support network is now reduced greatly and I hope he doesn't feel isolated. I hope the club can ensure he rebuilds that network and keeps an eye on him and tries to allow him more time to see his family or fly them over even if time allows.

Is he still as it shows on OS still here ? Maybe on 'gardening leave' until leaving terms are finalised?

I got my Barnsley and Charlton mixed up(See Striker thread), which makes it all the more important to let people know where you get the information from. 👍

Why are they so angry? Getting anyone in from the likes of barnsley should be easy for us now. We are a premier league club with ambition, what are they? Even if we are in the same division next season ambitions will be completely different, and he will be on more money at town.

Just talking to a BFC season card holder in my office. He's worried as Winkler does all the interviews and seems to be the main link between team and coach. Speaks excellent English (unusual in South Yorkshire..) and really gets the coaches instructions to the team.

Sounds perfect and an older head for Jan to rely on, although not as old as he looks at 49! I hope Hughes stays, we need some continuity, we weren't far off this season at all and it would be a shame to chuck all that away. My worry is we may end up losing all we're good at and turning these narrow 1 goal defeats into hammerings. I don't want to see any more records broken this season.

To be fair though, almost everybody else on there disagreed Forget the current positions, parachute payments etc. have Barnsley ever had more potential than Huddersfield? According to Wiki the population is less than 100,000 and Huddersfield is 160,000. Town have had bigger crowds in 80% of seasons throughout history, spent many more years in the top flight and we don't even need to mention honours. I would like to know on what basis anyone would make that comparison.

They are angry because every window they sell all their best players irrespective of league position and potential for the rest of the season, and now a popular coach has upped and left at the first opportunity. I would be angry too.

I’m from Barnsley and still live there and I agree, but so do most of their fans apart from the odd dimwit

Id say that when they were in the premiership. Yes. Of course.
