I can remember one of his contemporaries in the Town squad referring to him as "Dodgy Sodje." I have a vague memory of Sodje getting the full house in a game - booking, own goal and sending off. Suggesting that he did that for betting purposes is absolutely ridiculous. And you got it wrong anyway, he gave a penalty away, scored an own goal and got a straight red. There were reasons why he took their player out. I said it was vague! I was very young then... Was the chap he took out somebody he had previous with, or was that another occasion when he was sent off?

When we played Scunthorpe away, Lee Fowler was sent off and Terry Barwick got him sent off and was blowing kisses at him when he was ordered off the field. Jacko even got involved. Cue the home game, Sodje absolutely smashed Barwick in the middle of the park. Revenge.

It was the McAlliskey game. Own goal, penalty conceded, two yellows, the second of which for one of the daftest challenges I've ever seen a booked player make, and in an important game that we were losing, when he had already done so much to cost us the points. Just on the face of it I thought it looked dodgy as fuck at the time, and that was before I knew anything about him and his wonderful family and the kinds of activities they partake in.

For the purposes of a balanced view. How many remember the Oxford away game? Efe was stretched off just before half-time with the score at nil nil. The Oxford fans were giving it loads thinking they would win easy in second half. Efe trots out for second half, immediately silencing the home fans and goes on to score winning goal. Great memories of a great day out.

How the mighty fall Remember him destroying Sunderland away one Tuesday night at Roker park. Sunderland moved to Stadium of Light in 1997 and we signed Efe I think in ‘03. We did play Sunderland that year though I think in the Cuo when we smashed them 4-1/2 so could be that game you’re thinking of?

I remember it as clear as day. It is possible that he knew he'd smash him in revenge and a few folk made a few quid when he got a red for it.... so both might be true...

My abiding memory of that Scunthorpe game was the joyless ref sending off Danny Schofield for jumping into the crowd in celebration of an injury time winner.

He's been done for dipping his hands in the till, quite different.

He still completely tanked that game in an extremely suspicious way. If it was a revenge tackle, he didn't even make it a good one. It was just half-heartedly late, stupid, a clear booking, and it was obviously going to cost us a hell of a lot more than it would exact any kind of revenge on Barwick.

Bizarre story this, hideous crime plus they seemingly walked away with a few grand each which considering their careers ought to be small change. Makes you wonder if it was initially well meaning but they just couldn't help themselves. They've certainly got what was coming anyhow.

Not read the story but these are my memories:
Cult hero
When he played against us at home for the first time with Bury and we sang his name everytime he won the ball and he clapped us while still playing!!
Did like a stupid red card but also had the odd bullet header.
Against all odds...

This is the post you're referring to, with the explanation below downatthemac.proboards.com/thread/111504/censorship-efe-sodje-adminsThat thread isn't really about Sodje, but is complaining his original thread was moved. The thread Otium refers to was a single post with no link, in which his sole comment was asking if it was a coincidence that they were all Nigerian. I think it's fairly obvious why I locked and quarantined that one. I agree and support the locking of the previous thread. Daz Said the fellow admin/the man who saw the Emperor in gold robes and not bollock naked.
