I've been a working comic for over 30 years.... the general rule of thumb is Comedy = tragedy + time..... I'd suggest today is a bit early for humour.....

The comments I made were, to some, in bad taste. Others have liked them. Now, having checked the rules, with which I am familiar, there is no rule against bad taste.
None of them take any joy out of a tragedy, but are merely bad taste. But then bad taste is a matter of taste. This is how people like Frankie Boyle, Jimmy Carr etc can make a living. One man's bad taste is another's hilarity. You can choose to be offended by a joke or not to. You can choose to dismantle it and look at the craft of it, and assess it on merit, or have a knee jerk reaction to it and become indignant.
In matters like this, most of the issue is a combination of timing and proximity - of this were a player singing for our club I doubt anyone would find the tiniest bit of scope to crack wise. But if this were a player transferring between two unknown clubs on the other side of the world, more would.
When it comes to humour, I tend to have a much more liberal rule about offense than in other areas, and it's about two things. Is it funny? Is it cruel? In my opinion, crassly joking that Denis Bergkamp had the right idea about flying is not cruel - I am not taking joy in what (presumably) is Sala's demise.
Clearly, opinions will differ, and I do apologise for any offense caused, as after all this is a football forum not a comedy club, where the "contract" is different.
To suggest, however, that other posters would be sanctioned is (in my honest opinion) untrue. We don't sanction bas taste where it does not break the rules. If we did, some posters (including one criticising me here) would have already been banned for life.
A quick observation - my earliest relevant post here stated that I'd already heard two "gags" about this that I was reluctant to share. The two posts immediately following were at odds, one saying no to, one asking that I did. Make of that what you will.

I don’t get any humour from this at all.. The Leicester chairman and others perished a few weeks ago in similar circumstances and everybody paid their respects on here? So what’s the difference? I don’t get it? Is it because it didn’t happen on land over this country. How did we have more empathy with a chairman of a club than a player of another club. One things for sure if ,and perish the thought..that was a new town player coming in..or worse our beloved chairman..and fans of other clubs made such comments there’d be uproar. Show some respect. wrong, grim laughed at that too and suffered quite a backlash of twitter I don’t know who “Grim” is...and certainly wouldn’t want to. And I’ve never been on twitter either.

Didn't share that joke on twitter, and you won't have heard that joke as it's only ever been told twice in public. And, to be clear, that joke isn't about the Leicester helicopter crash. It mentions it. Stick to what you know, enoch, which is the square root of fuck all.

Where people always have difference of opinions on what is bad taste humour etc I think a bit more thought should be given to the level this site usually operates at.I think we have gone below the belt on this and I undersand the anger.

Yet again another thread manipulated into something other than what it was intended for. As someone said to me last week, since we got promoted there seems to be a growing number of c**** that apparently support Town and it's hard to disagree at times

Just out of interest, if someone posted a racist joke would they receive a ban for being racist or would it be accepted as just being a joke?

Even though its a decades old event. Not that i particularly want to joke about it , i just find it interesting that some areas are accepted in time and others are complete no goes.

What a tragic story. Life is so fragile. This bloke had a life we'd all dream of - riches, talent, celebrity... and all gone in an instant (assuming the worst).

I guess the point is to know your audience.
My group of friends are generally devients and have posted jokes on WhatsApp already about Sala. Nothing is off limits as we know none of us will take offense.
In a comedy club, fine that's what people are there for. On a public forum though, maybe not.

I know our (pretend)egg stealing prick seemingly has an issue with Lil but the only joke he made was the one about the wording of a post so why's he getting it in the neck ? Granted, I love Jimmy Carr and Frankie Boyle so I'm on the side of not having a moral compass 🤔😁

Apparently one admin deleted a thread Oti started on this Board for fear it might be reported and he'd be banned. Oti's spent the last 20 hours slagging them off on the Admin Board, so they've advised him they may be willing to reinstate it if he wants (but with the warning he risks a ban if it's reported) and he appears to have bottled it.

It is one of the positions in life where no one ever says thanks and all you get is shit.

Wanted: 1 admin Requirements: thick skin ability to please everybody no inclination to have own personality or opinions must provide own tin hat Remuneration: None, occasional thanks, plenty of grief. Seriously, prepared to admit it was too soon for levity about this still developing story. Said as much before posting. Apologies again for any genuine offense caused, never my intention. To those feigning offense because of some bizarre gripe with me, meh. to those who think we admins are malevolent power hungry beasts, if true why are you still here. To Sala, Cardiff, all affected, my genuine sympathy.

Do you agree with lifetime bans? Not so sure anyone could write anything on this forum that I would report. There's a few folk that piss me off just like I aren't everyone's flavour either. I think a lifetime ban for any written crime is over the top in my opinion because it is merely subjective and usually people are offended on somebody else's behalf. Rules are rules but just find it harsh.

Disappointing some posters on here actually upsets me a little, those whom I respect and admire. But I suppose it's a risk you take every time you post. Just some personalities pose that risk more than others. I can take the criticism. I'd be in the wrong arena in forging a path into comedy if I couldn't.

Totally agree, By all means challenge their posts if you disagree (both Phil and Grim in particular can be controversial posters at times - I get that), but it's the constant niggling of them doing their admin role (as cheesy was in this case) that I'm fed up with.

If I'm doing something for free, having an easy life would be my prime concern, and constant hassle from people with their own agenda or ott abuse of others I wouldn't tolerate. If anything I think the admins are too tolerant.

sad news If he is dead will Cardiff have to pay the transfer fee if it x amount upfront and rest later ? pray for Sala I imagine so. It seems unfair to Cardiff, but the alternative would be even more unfair to the other club. I guess thought it's plausible that with these kind of fees which are typically paid out over several years there might be clauses which would nullify further payments after the upfront payment in the event of death (but I really have no idea).

It says on BBC news that the search is suspended. How long could a person survive in the sea at this time of year. It does not look good for the two missing.
