We didn’t have much pull for players whilst in the premier league, we are going to have even less now back in the championship. Granted we may pay higher wages for a year or 2 than previous seasons at that level but still think our expectations will be fairly modest in terms of wages and spending on fees etc. Suspect whatever we sell will be re-invested and the parachute payments will be purely running costs etc

I'd be glad if we took on David Marshall as a keeper option to work with Coleman. Lossl is leaving right? Hamer is pants. Another reasonable option, out of contract, and more than adequate at Championship level.

If the press reports are accurate then we are looking at getting players that are running out of contract. Again if true we are looking at experienced Championship players and this should allow is to make one or two signature signings to show that we are going to try and make it back to the Premier league. I live in hope !

It's apparent by now that we need a new keeper, but I am surprised that Westwood is the name that's getting brought up. Burnley have Heaton, Hart, Pope, Lindegaard and Legzdins who are all capable at Championship level or higher. We should go for Pope IMO, he was a massive reason they placed so highly last season. Just out of curiosity, how about Hart? Would assume his wage demands are too high for us. I'd go to the MLS if I were him.

I think I have mentioned this young lad before, (Eddie Nketiah) , plays for Arsenal but is not getting much first team experience, He may be an excellent punt for a season long loan.

Westwood would be a very good signing on a free.

I think Che Adams would be a good signing for us, young fast and knows where the net is. Birmingham are in trouble and would have to take a reasonable offer. I’d also try for Josh Brownhill of Bristol City, like a new Hogg with extras. Hart as a keeper could be tempted for a longer contract rather than naughts on it. Nick Pope will be tempting for Palace who need a keeper and other mid table and possibly promoted teams. I would think we will need 4 signings plus any replacement for players leaving. Championship is a long old slog. UTT

Pope was being mentioned for arsenal - wouldnt be a bad backup for them and homegrown. he might want football but he will have better offers than us

Westwood would be a very good signing on a free. Agreed top championship keeper with a few years left in him. Time enough to allow Ryan Schofield to continue his excellent development and potentially take over. I still think there is a chance we could see Alex Smithies returning back to Town, he is not getting any game time at Cardiff and needs too as he is 29. He has been and should be a regular starter for a club.

There's a lot of big championship names being banded about, but will club's best players eg Maupay, Che Adams, actually see us as a big enough dog is my concern.

If our ambition is to try and build a team to challenge at the top end of the Championship on free transfers then we are going to struggle to stay up. Since Siewert has arrived we have gone from a team that needed a few Quality additions, to now looking like poundstretcher!

Plus Che will end up in the Prem and is quoted about £20m, thats a firm no from us and i wouldnt either tbh Josh Brownhill......Swapping Bristol City, a club potentially getting a play off spot, more than likely will improve next season too, to come to us, depleted and relegated and who knows what next season? Joe Hart? You wanna subsidise his wages? Not being funny, theyre probably the most unrealistic signings on here.

Matt Clarke from Portsmouth, proper centre half, knows how to score and is still young
Siriki Dembele from Peterborough, tricky player and could be a replacement should Dhiakhaby or Mbenza trot off
Marcus Maddison Peterborough, always rated him highly.
3 from the lowers, who are young, very talented and wont cost a lot in comparison. Blended with some of our current and a couple of maybe higher profile signings(maybe abroad or established here?)

If you were looking at us from the outside you must wonder if we have any ambition. I suppose what happens next depends upon the 'supposed' takeover and any positive vibes that might give out.

Here's my list
Outs: Lossl (understand he won't be here), Hamer (pants), Kongolo (too good for Championship), Billing (will go PL surely), Mooy (as with Billing), Puncheon (**** off), Zanka, Depoitre, Sobhi, Quaner
I'd like for us to keep the likes of Smith, Pritchard, Mounie, Williams, Lowe, Durm (although I think he'll leave) as I reckon they'll do us well
Ins to replace the outs: Marshall (with Schofield/Coleman as backup),Tyler Blackett, Nick Powell - I see Hooper, Nugent and Fraizer Campbell are all off contract...Bring in a couple of League One impressers, and also look abroad and we're set.

Westwood, Maupay, Reece James, Maddison and Clarke from Pompey (if they don't go up).
Would love to keep Mooy, Schindler, Hoggy and Pritch for next season. But can see Kongolo going unfortunately.

Sometimes fans see players that look good, and sometimes those fans turn out to be right. Where’s the harm in making reasonable and realistic suggestions? Don’t you trust your own judgment? I am tactically and observantly challenged, so would not know why a player was particularly good unless I was told, and then I would have to believe that person's word. I have no problem with this, and it helps the mystery of why the game is different in one half to the other. However, if I suggested Messi I would be laughed at. If I suggested a player from Guiseley I would be laughed at, so where is the line drawn between who might be good enough and who is not/out of reach? Even if I was a skilful as some of you at spotting why a player was good enough, I would have no idea if he would settle into the team, had a bad disciplinary record, was full of bad personal habits, or any of the other reasons which make a good player not worth buying. All of which is really irrelevant, as I'm sure that nobody from the club reads these pages for suggestions as to who is good enough, so is it just an ego trip for the suggestor? Ego trip? Quite possibly, but it's a fun discussion. Suggestions of tactics to beat the next side also won't be taken into account by anyone at the club either. Still enjoyable to talk about it.

We could have Messi, Ronaldo and Salah up front but unless we found a system to give them opportunities it would be pointless.

Last season was the best chance we had of acquiring him don't think DH will pay big bucks this season probably go easy on the spending till he sees how we cope.

I suppose the recruitment of Grant would suggest that this is true. All a bit faceless these days though.
