Playing for Greenwich United Boys Club under 18`s against Ostend FC Utd Juniors, a friendly on an Easter trip. We played prior to a match between Ostend Utd playing a Danish Team and the crowd was filling up and we were 1-0 down. Fouled about nearly 40 yards out,I took the free kick as hard as I could along the ground and the ball trickled through a crowd just inside the post. Some of their supporters applauded me at the end but I often wonder whether the goalie let it go over the line deliberately. It was 1951,not that too long after the war. No one had even thought about BREXIT then!

I once scored a bicycle kick from near the penalty spot in training when I played for Stile Common U16's. Digyourselfdeeps dad was coach, he disallowed it because it was in a game where you had to be in the 6 yard box to score π‘. Although I did score one similar to Frank Worthingtons GoS for Bolton in my final junior sunday league game, at Wyke, as part of a hat trick Stile Common U16's brings back memories. Canute Clarke, and a few more of his ilk. Happy Hampshire driving around dragging his players out of bed from all over, supposedly. Still wasn't as good as Battyeford though, but hey ho Β Clarkey was the year below me, if Happy had to take us for any reason Clarkey usually got a game. Happy and my dad worked at the same place, Canute ended up there too. I was in the same class as Johns daughter. Battyeford was always underwater, which may explain the webbed feet π€

Take your pick from several beauties clipped into the top left hand corner (English Martyr's steps) with the cola mini ball during breaks through the 88/89 winners keep shooting at the steps campaign.

No idea who usually won, so ill say it was Battyeford. You might remember a tall, dashingly handsome , composed centre back whod dominate the game from the back? Well I was the clogger who played next to him.

Playing at Elland Road - THAT usually gets some attention..... in March 1970. The area behind the east stand - which I think is now a car park - contained a football pitch at the time. I slid a brilliant shot into the top left corner from about the right-hand corner of the penalty area. I was actually trying to find the head of our centre forward - of course, I didn't let on that it was an intended cross...
By gum; if I had been half as good in those days as my critiques of the lads are these days I'd have given George a run for his money......

I did remember that tall, dashingly handsome, composed centre back but he was playing for Netherton/Lockwood/Common π. Main game I remember against Battyeford was the U12 Cup semi final, we won, I scored a penalty and the little ginger haired CF from Ford bicycle kicked me in the nose by accident π

That was a lad called Paul Bradford I think. Ill have definitely played in that game but can't remember it. Must have blocked it out of my memory if we lost!
We got to the final a few years after that, might have been under 15s which we lost 5-2 i think ( but I got one of our two which I remember like it was yesterday funnily enough). Not sure but that might have been Style Common in the final played over at Holmfirth i think. They had this big black lad up front who was really strong for his age. Would you have played in that? If you can;t remember it, it probably wasn't Style Common at all. My memory's a bit shit.

Do you remember playing against Maguire ( Maggy ) . Striker for Honley?. Went on to play a couple of 1st team games for both Town and Leeds. Good player but a bit soft and would have a right strop if you kicked him.

On the bench for the university thirds in a pre-season friendly against a team from a local brewery. There being no love lost between the locals and students, some meaty tackles were flying in. Half way through the second half I came on to replace our battered right winger. For the next twenty minutes I ambled around wherever the ball wasn't, trying to avoid getting my legs broken. Two minutes from time with the score still nil-nil, we got a corner. As I strolled up to the edge of the box on the opposite side of the field, I saw the ball , which had been way overhit, flying right in my direction. On the volley, 18 yards out on the angle, I swung a foot at it. The ball sliced off the outside of my boot and flew into the side-netting about a yard wide. Somehow however, the net hadn't been secured properly and the ball squirmed underneath and nestled into the back of the net proper. Anyone with a pair of eyes could see what had happened. Everyone except the referee that is, who awarded the goal, sparking an overenthusiastic celebration followed by a mass brawl. The match was abandoned.

Didnt score this match as I was playing in pegs but reckon I might have played against Solskjaer in 1992 in Norway in an indoor 5 a side match. He was serving as a conscript in the Norwegian army at the time. The opposition brought in a star player that they were all Iincredibly excited about called Ole. I am pretty sure he didnβt manage to get one past me as I was also a decent keeper, a bit like Hamer!

Canβt decide if it was the tap in in front of the North Stand or the placed shot that dropped in the bottom right corner in front of the South South.

A ball came over the top and I was last man, about 35 yards out. I went to cushion it back to my keeper but caught it with my instep and hit it clean as a whistle into the top corner of my own net. Keeper never moved. Never hit a ball so sweetly before or since.

I was a keeper so goals were hard to come by.
I did save a penalty with my face once. It hurt.

Maggy went to Honley but played for Upperthong and then Meltham in the junior Sunday league. I only played against Benty once and that was a school game, I didn't find him as quick as everyone said he was, or I was quicker than I realised. Yeah Lee was at Marsden, I marked him when he was a striker when Netherton won the U12 cup final when I was 10 or 11. He was a year older than you and me so if he was in goal when you played against him chances are Wayne Allison was up front. I played against Wayne while he was at both Lindley and Marsden.
