Quite a few boro fans seem to think Wagner is a likely option we will go for once ‘he (not saying that name’ finally leaves in summer.
There is a debate into how Wagner sets teams up though, we’ve had our fair share of defensive managers lately and many want someone a bit less cautious (boring). Was Wagner that way inclined? Ignoring the premiership season he got you promoted with a very low goals scored figure and you sneaked through the play offs scoring 1 goal.
Was he limited by budget/the attacking players he could attract? Or did he just set up to defend first and hope to snatch a 1-0?
I read through a few posts from the Wagner thread and tbh it sounds like a carbon copy of when we had Karanka, split opinions, some defend him because he was successful, others don’t like him because the football was boring. Also suffering from disasterous recruitment!

Superb. Anyone who says otherwise is talking shit. The wheels came off but so much of that was due to stuff outside his control. A legend here, and rightly so. Don't expect rational, objective replies cos many of us are still hurting from an awful season. We should never have been promoted, nor should we have survived, and much of that is down to him.

He wont go to middlesbrough. He's better than you, if he doesn't land a decent PL/La Liga/Bundesliga side then he hasn't moved forward and done himself a disservice.

Yes, to repeat the above and not dissing Boro, he's openly said he's ready for another crack at the EPL. He won't be looking at Championship roles.

Despite his success he plays possession football where nothing much happens for long periods, chances are limited and he doesn't know how to change a game mid flow by changing tactics or making the right substitution. Having said that he can't be anymore boring than Pulis.

If thats the case he'd have had an easier and better paid job here. Don't blame you for wanting rid of Pulis though, awful football even if you achieve the end goal, but it looks unlikely you'll even do that.

Nice guy, brought a revolutionary regime to Huddersfield, and was part of the team that gained a completely unexpected promotion.
As a tactician though, he falls way short.
Incredibly overrated by a lot of town fans.

Also suffering from disasterous recruitment! He was a genius for getting us promoted on a shoestrring budget and keeping us up against all the odds last season, however possession football is his main prioirity, often turning attack into defence. We won promotion with a minus goal difference, winning 22 out of 25 games by a single goal. Last summer the priority signings had to be a quality striker and a winger who could provide the ammumition but we failed to sign them and this must have been part of the reason for his decision to leave. Gibson has always come accross as being a Chairman who would support his manager and Wagner is a very likeable bloke, but if he were to become your manager, don't expect goals galore.

Tbf the negative GD was mainly down to Fulham arseholing us 9-1 on aggregate during the season and only scoring one goal (an OG) in the play offs was down to Izzy Brown missing when it was easier to score in both legs and the final

Think Wagner would be a good fit for a Middlesbrough or similar size club. At the moment i can't see him walking into a PL club due to how he went this season. Had he left us at the end of 2017/18 season, i think his stock would have been higher.

His emphasis is on the whole team disrupting the opposition's lines of attack. This everyone's first responsibility. It worked very well for us in the championship (coupled with high fitness levels) and in the first 6 months of the premier league. The players were so well drilled into getting back into shape if they lost possession that that they didn't' really press home attacks as much as they could. So we fashioned few chances, especially this season when he played with three central defenders and three central mids. It left the front guys (or guy) with too much to do against quality defenders.
It's sort of anti-football if you like. When the pressing is good and the defensive discipline good it can bring results - and did. But in the premier league our limitations were too apparent, and the idea of keeping shape for 90 minutes and hoping we'd sneak a goal somewhere had diminishing returns.
Having said all that, we love David. He found us at the foot of the championship and took us to the premier league on a meagre budget. He's a great guy. He brought pride to the place and did his work with intelligence and enthusiasm. We miss him.

Incredibly overrated by a lot of town fans. More like still learning his trade after 2.5 seasons in senior management, in which he got us promoted on one of the championships lowest budgets(before promotion bonuses) and managed to keep us in the PL which was no easy feat.

People will probably look at the fact that he was managing us and having seen to perform two miricles. People outside our club would see him as on a hiding to nothing trying keep us up a third season.

Gamble that paid off at Huddersfield. Was given time by the chairman and created a new culture at the club,on and off the field , which brought success nobody thought possible for a club of it's size. Not sure he would be given time and support at Boro or many other clubs for that matter.

They are absolutely night and day as personalities. Give Wagner some decent attacking options and not Collin Quaner and other misfits where he's expected to turn water into wine and you'd get plenty of intent. However, I don't see him going to Middlesbrough at all.

Not sure he would be given time and support at Boro or many other clubs for that matter. His timing with us was impeccable. We were so ready for someone like him and we bought into it lock, stock and fucking barrel! Furthermore, we were just the right club for him at the time. Whether the timing is right for you, I don't know. The big question for you, as a club is, are you ready for fundamental change, from top to bottom? You have to buy into it unconditionally. Anyway, I'll mention his name? Which thick bastard will take a punt on Pulis next season? His stock has never been so low.

Transformed the entire club and was responsible for creating the closest bond between team and fans that I have ever experienced. The only time I’ve ever truly trusted a manager. A great man, a genius. I’ve never been so miserable in a football sense as the day I found out he was leaving.

He decided to quit when he couldn't come up with anything in this division, even though he would have been supported for another attempt at promotion from the championship. I know most folk would have him back in a breath, but not for me. Thanks for the memory's David.
