For an experienced "senior" player to have to be substituted so early in the FIRST half of a match strongly suggests that something is wrong. The number of absolutely needless bookings Hogg gets early in matches is pathetic. To get booked for needlessly mouthing off to the referee to complain about the awarding of a free-kick/throw-in (can’t remember which) that didn’t actually involve him was stupid and completely unnecessary that then stuck him on a tightrope; hence his early withdrawal as he would have been sent off.

The sending-off against Cardiff was possibly the earliest indication we would go down. A brainless piece of petulance from a captain that we simply couldn’t afford. He’s been good in spells, but very limited.

I have never been a fan and I always receive stick when saying as much. I imagine he will have good passing stats if you can be bothered to look them up, but it doesnt tell the story, his passes are sideways and backwards. People seem to like him because he runs around and "puts himself about" but he has missed so many tackles in back play this season which have led to goals. He blames everyone on the pitch but himself, and the needless free kicks he gives away do my head in, but of course they are normally other peoples fault too. I have always thought he is a poor Danny Williams, because Williams does everything Hogg does in terms of tanacity BUT he actually knows how to set up an attack, he isnt scared to run at a player, he can play a piercing ball forward rather than backwards, which is what you need from a midfielder.

He's not the worst for going backwards and sideways, that accolade goes to Tommy Smith.

He's been a liability this season. Fans have let him get away with his technical shortcomings because of his tenacity and leading the team by example. That's not been there this season. Yelling and pointing at other players after his own many mistakes, pointless mistimed tackles and constant bookings, headbutting the Cardiff player in our first big game of the season. Unforgivable IMO. Remember when Wagner's eventual success was put down to the early acceptance of his ideas by the club's senior players. It's been up to Hogg principally to do that with Siewert and he hasn't. At this point he's living off past glories but in reality is a toxic influence at the club and needs a fresh start for the sake of everyone, including himself. Hes been one of our best players this season. To say hes been a liability is just silly IMO and what evidence is that that hes in any way a toxic influence on anyone? . His 'constant bookings' is actually one every 3 1/2 games. About what you'd expect for the role he plays, particularly in a struggling team. Hogg has his strengths and weaknesses like they all do, but his strengths vastly outweigh his weaknesses. He absolutely has his role and of course bookings are naturally going to come as part of it. What I'm saying is that he's the only player in the team who's given, on account of his technical limitations, a very specialised role in the team. That role being a player who runs about a lot and tackles and gives the ball to others who'll do something useful with it. Which is fine. In the promotion season he had that role, alongside an important role for the team morale. He geed everyone up and embodied the team spirit. It would be delusional to say he has a positive effect on team spirit now. A senior player, particularly a technically limited one, has to have that about them, particularly in a struggling team. He moans and points incessantly when others make mistakes and blames others when he makes them himself. For me that's a toxic influence. I know it's an unpopular opinion because he's a hard nosed English defensive midfielder, so never gets questioned about things like this.

get rid very unprofessional Fucks sake Nick we'd have no team left if it was up to you. What I will say since Seiwert has come he has looked totally off colour. Agree. Not been the same since Siewert took over. Are we to blame Hogg for this? In my eyes I’ve seen nothing positive since Siewert took over.

He had a poor game
His booking should earn Mbenza a fine for not being bothered to enter a challenge
But he’s been brilliant for us over a long period of time. Schindler has a similar off spell by his standards
Very important next season

Everyone else seems to have forgotten it's supposed to be their game too, Hogg even pressed the keeper a couple of times because Mounié wasn't doing it.

Big dilemma for me.....undoubtedly a decent champshp player but struggles at this level imho. Been a great servant though and rightly lauded for commitment and effort on a consistent basis not every 3 or 4 games. Doesn't look happy with seiwert and if the manager stays then I think he will leave. It might be the right time to do so with bacuna coming through - but if he does he will be missed.

Hogg until Wagner took over was a bit part player. Wagner converted him into a player who could play as the extra man in front of the back four and link the ball as we kept pocession. Attack minded he has contributed nothing in 4 years his shooting is non existent his forward passing woeful and if I was him I would spend less time body building and more time improving his football skills. bacuna is the boy now You don't need to be muscular to be a street fighter

For all his limitations, I'd rather Hogg was in the team than out of it. I hope he stays because he's the sort of player we need in the Championship. He's improved a lot in his career one at Town. Sadly, I don't think became the manager get on, so I think he may well to in the summer.

He didn;t get booked for mouthing off. He got it for pulling a player back when he was about to get away on the break ( after a pathetic non challenge by Mbenza ). One of those where if they go on and score, he gets slammed for not taking a yellow to stop the break. It was quite subtle and the ref missed it and only booked him after presumably the lino in front of the Kilner told him to. The exact same thing Hughes did later in the game but without seeing a yellow incidentally. Don;t get this issue people have with him bollocking players. Our new skipper says nothing. You never see him encourage, gee anyone up, bollock anyone. Just seems to play in silence. Thast fine, but he isn;t an on-field leader. Hogg plays and reacts to his team mates like he actually gives a shit. He gets angry, he gets frustrated, at himself a lot of the time. We have a lot of players who look like they don;t care one way or the other. Seems crazy to criticise the one who always does.

He was booked for the foul. It was nothing to do with "mouthing off". We will have to disagree; the incident was half way line Kilner Bank side and was nothing to do with him. Walked past the ref and must have said something; ref turned round and immediately got the card out. So, as I said, IMO, he “mouthed off” and got the card.

He was booked for the foul. It was nothing to do with "mouthing off". Which makes a change !! How many times has he been booked for mouthing off then? There was a guy on here a week or two ago who lazily threw in this 'fact' that Hogg was 'always getting sent off'. He actually gets sent off about once every FIFTY games over the past few seasons!! So 'always' then!
