Oggys notoriously optimistic with his away number eyed in guesses. It wasn't official and he used the word 'thin'.

Not long after we played Liverpool, we were beaten and outplayed at home by Charlton. I think they were the eventual champions. After that game we were never the same as we had been earlier in the season. We had some good results after that, but we never really rediscovered our free-flowing, free-scoring form again. As you say, our performance levels had dropped long before Stewart left. Had Stewart stayed we would obviously have had a much better chance of making the play offs, but I doubt we'd have won them. Our late season performances were poor, culminating in an absolutely abysmal showing at Fulham. We showed absolutely no fight at all that day. I know, I was there. I was there, too, it was appalling I remember watching Steve Bruce, he didn’t give a shit A couple of years later, I was working in Athens, I told a Greek guy that I was a Huddersfield fan, expecting that he’d never heard of us. He laughed and quoted the last six results of our games that season. He reckoned the games were involved in a gambling racket, that people in the club were leaned on . I’ve always wondered if it were true . We certainly played like it Every Town fan there that day knew what was going to happen. We had to set off dead early as it was an early kick off I think, sire Lee Clark scored a pen for Fulham that day.

A season that started so well ended with a damp squib. And we carried that form into the start of the next season.

Yeah I was there too he got 2 and Goldbaek scored a worldy from distance. Not sure if early kick off but might have been, lovely warm weather at end of season and we were standing in an open area iirc? Because of the ground layout the players etc came out at the corner near away fans. No eye contact with fans as Bruce headed straight off after final whistle. We gave nothing that day.

It's my birthday today too!!! Happy birthday CIS, and it was mine on Sunday. What are the odds that out of thousands of members on DATM, some of us have birthdays on the same day, or very close to each other? BTW Mosher its "pedantry", seemed (as a sometime pedant) too good an opportunity to miss.😊 Realised as soon as I clicked post Mate, I can't criticise you for your pedancy (sic) when I let my inner pedant loose all the time

Had a town supporting mate living in Hertford at the time so I might have gone night before and stayed over then we'd catch the train in next morning. Definitely remember doing that for a QPR match around same era. I don't recall parking anywhere for Fulham game so expect it was train. Another memory of Fulham was a suited n booted (injured) Ken Monkou laughing and joking. Probably knew he'd had his money out of us and it was beginning of the end.

Im still convinced the problem lies in the squad just not having the quality to turn in consistent performances. How many managers do we need to go through before the facts hit us around the face like a wet fish. The squad that finished with top six form over last 15 games of last season......Under one of those managers. We need to move on Warnock has gone. He was great for us dont get me wrong. Can another manager squeeze every ounce out of this squad. Im not sure. Look at the squad as a whole . Do you think we have a top six squad there? Im not convinced over a full season.

Hahahaha bring back the Halifax Dukes I quite agree, so for locality it's a toss up between Sheffield and Belle Vue and I can't bring myself to choose the lancastrians 😁 Apologies for quoting myself but Sheffield turned round an 18 point deficit, after the first leg, to win the 2nd by 22 points, last night, and winning by 4 on aggregate to become British Champions for the first time ever 😁
