This is a reminder that there will be an open meeting for all Town fans tonight at 7:30pm in the Fantastic Media suite, when the Billy Smith memorabilia will be on show. Gwen & Ian Thomas (the Club's historians) will explain some of the stories behind this fantastic collection. Don't miss this chance for an early preview of a unique part of Town's history.

Will we get to hear who the new manager is too?! Well, we shall, of course, be inviting applications for the position of Memorabilia Manager - so come with your cv at the ready

How many went and what did they think about the memorabilia

How many went and what did they think about the memorabilia There wasn't a lot of people there (probbaly less than 20) It's a shame more people couldn't come to see it as some of the collection really is awe inspiring. Maybe people don't care? Maybe people didn't know? Hopefully when it is exhibited in an accessible part of the stadium more people will take the time to have a look. Those that did go liked what they saw, and the background provided by the Thomases was good as it added clarity and history to the collection, and just how sought after some of the pieces would be if put to an open action.

I think buying the memorabilia was an excellent idea. A tangible asset showcasing the biggest period in this club's history. I look forward to being able to examine it.
Good work everyone involved in the purchase.
Just think - it could have ended up down some pie-in-the-sky scheme black hole...

Itll be great if it can be displayed permanently. For exiles like myself it is only really feasible to view it on matchdays so would be great if that was made a reality.... A dissapointing turnout from the locals on a quiet thursday evening

Has this been purchased, or is it to be?
And if so, by HTSA or the club, or a combination?

Where indeed? Have a look at the Latest News on www.htsa.co.uk/for the announcement that HTSA is now the proud owner of the collection.

Just because there was a lack of numbers in attendance doesn't detract from the fact that it was the right thing to do.....and it was the democratic decision. I fail to see what you are trying to suggest. Clearly, you won't reply as you're a woman of her word and you said "I rest my case on this subject and I honestly mean that"

I agree with Mids. I didn't go down to see them but that doesn't mean im not interested, hopefully once they are in some sort of perm location ill go take a look and take down my nephew. Its good to be able to show the kids stuff like that from our past. We should be proud of the fact that we were once the best team in the UK (and probably therefore the world at that time). Not many teams can lay claim to that and any reminders of glorious history should be treasured for future generations of town fans.

I agree Mids. I was one of the 'less than 20' and have to say that when these items are eventually displayed I'd urge all Town fans.......or all football fans even......... to have a look at what is quite possibly one of the best collections of memorablia ever to have been gathered by a single player. It is important to have kept it all together rather than sold as individual items and scattered all over the world. That way would certainly have fetched far far more at auction for the family but they quite rightly wanted it to be kept together. A no brainer really to buy!

Just like to say well done for purchasing these items ... the money has been sat in a bank account for 5 years (thankfully not an Icelandic one) earning nothing and serving no purpose now the club is in responsible hands. Although not many went to the exhibit yesterday I'm sure that many thousands of people will take pride in this collection and, hopefully, other additional items that may be displayed in a potential museum for years to come

I do feel for you guys, must be hard to try and get the interest your effort deserves, I still haven't got round to paying £5 to be a member, although I promise I'll get it sorted soon. All I can say is stick at it, the majority of fans appreciate your efforts even if not all will agree with all that you do

Can this stuff temporarily be displayed in the National Football Museum until a local home is found?
(I can provide some contacts if required)

I went to the NFM in the summer, and there was not one jot of memorabilia about Town from the twenties. Quite disappointed, in an otherwise fascinating museum.

I've asked my man in Preston for the relevant contact details.
In the meantime, any chance that photos of this collection could be made public?
