I assume it will expedite planning permission if the Council is a vested party in the project. Chinese walls? ha ha. we use Chinese walls(or fire walls). You just look around them when no one is looking.

Please remind me what progress is being made on the renovation of the George Hotel. I stayed there (back in Hudds on business) shortly before it closed. It was truly in a parlous state. I have heard rumours about its owner, but cannot comment on their veracity. Given the investment in St George's Square, it does seem reasonable to consider a business-class hotel there, in a "sustainable" location by the station. But, what do I know - I'm only a planner...? As a fellow planner all I'll say is a Grade II Listed Building and viability trump sustainable location. Shame that it is so, but that's the reality. As for the hotel pump priming further development at HDOne I'm not sure it'll do that. Thats from my experience doing regen masterplans hotels tend to follow trip generating development rather than pump prime them. Donald trump, in little old Udders - never.

Too many wind turbines in the area for Trump to be interested...

Guess they're not able to advise the prospective brand due to confidentiality but can't believe it would be anything better than something like a Jurys Inn given the location & even then it'll be a punt in the hope they can sell on at a profit if HDone ever takes off...
Remarkable that they talk about bringing investment in yet the way they continually restrict and under-develop the access routes means investment will go elsewhere...
Things are likely to get a whole boat load worse for KMC in the next few yrs so they'd better be making a boatload of profit on this deal & selling off green belt...

The Council as it is at the moment is not fit for purpose imo.

Anybody know how long the proposed ski slope will be?
Longer or shorter than Xscape/Halifax?

It will be a total and utter waste of time, If we are to have a ski slope that will attract folk from afar we need a decent sized one, And the Kilner bank is not big enough, And we simply cannot afford to build one up either the Holme or Colne valleys. As for the Hotel !! , Get the George compulsory purchased from the dodgy dentist and do it up, Some beautiful buildings around that side of Town. And if we are to have another sports/fitness/activity venue as part of the HD project then we need to go down the Velodrome route, It would be used and there aint too many about. As it stands I don't want any of our brass lent or blown on any crappy waste of money ventures when we aint got a penny to rub together, Folk are losing their jobs, The bins aint getting emptied, The roads are falling to pieces and we are going to have to build more flood defences. Time to end Kirklees cos its fooked.

What sort of person looks around Huddersfield, sees the centre dying on its arse since Kingsgate was built, looks at the leisure facilities on offer and thinks " I know, all this place is short of is a fucking ski slope to go in our new white elephant development "

Good rail links to Manchester and Leeds which are improving, M62/M1 near etc. Yet it's just dying and will only get worse due to these bus gates.

Are there more people likely to use a dry ski slope than the driving range ? Are the ones around busy ?

I didn't think so, I'd no idea as the thought of strapping planks to my feet and jumping off the top of a mountain is abhorrent to me. Its like fishing, trainspotting and supporting Leeds, I know some people do it but I just don't see the attraction ;D

Anyone voted in the 'guess who the secret Hotelier is" stakes in the Examiner? I didn't bother as it didn't offer an option for any of the establishments on offer in Argyle Sq ( a stones throw from Kings X Station for those not familiar) - a reet multinational array of low quality digs...

Build the ski slope into the Hotel? Bit like that monorail that runs through the Disney Hotel in Florida.
Can just imagine the guests from afar, relaxing with their 4* chip butty & Eddie the Eagle comes flying through in some garish coloured salopettes yodelling away...

If they have to spend money can't they find something useful to build ? Are we really that in need of a ski slope ?

More bars and restaurants would go down a treat then there would be no need to queue for 30 yards to get a pint at the rope walk.

You would assume a high class hotel right by the stadium is guaranteed to have some use for the majority of the year would you not? Apart from local teams, the majority of away teams will likely be using it stay over instead of say Leeds where they probably stay over now? It's a sort of chicken and egg scenario, it won't work if there's nobody to use and support it, but you need the infrastructure to pull people in in the first place. This might just kick start the whole development and bring the people to use the facilities and the investors to develop the rest. I think a lot of you (seems like most of the people in Hudsersfield these days) are negative and just like to shit on any idea ever. Look on examiner articles about the university building new departments or student housing and all you see is idiots moaning about too many students and not enough housing or care for the homeless (funny how they don't care about the homeless at all any other time) but when there's an article about new housing sites they moan that we shouldn't be building on "beautiful" muddy, unused fields! The level of stupidity is unreal. I bet no teams playing us would stay in the hotel right next to the ground, with restaurants bars ect around it,,think they prefer more relaxed places, they aren't coming here to party
