I care about the club maintaining dignitiy and one of the things i have always associated with town is Pride. I have been proud to be a Town fan even in the dark days of administration and relegation to the bottom diviison. If we signed someone like Hughes i would no longer be Proud to be a town fan i would be ashamed of the club. Where would you draw the line death by dangerous driving? thats ok cause he did a bit of bird, if he stabbed his wife is that ok? if he abuses children is that ok? For me a club stands for more than results on the pitch pride and dignitiy are important! Were you booing or chastising the club when Andy Morrison got arrested for GBH/ assault - or when we signed Jeppo who had a Heysel related conviction if rumours were to be believed. All this pride stuff is nonsense in this instance - the man was convicted and dealt with by the courts. He served the time required and is now plying his trade as best he can - he didnt get away with anything and if the sentence was too low, thats not his issue, thats more the judicial system. Whatever happened to giving people a second chance when they have done wrong? No i wasn't booing and chastising the club when Andy Morrison got arrested for affray and i never bought into the jepson rumours. There has to be a line drawn somewhere in the sand and for me there is a big difference between beating someone up or a late night altercation outside a nightclub and mowing someone down ending their life. Do you honestly want to cheer on someone who has killed another man? So if Fred West, Ian huntley or Harold Shipman could play the game would you welcome them to the club as well? A football club is more important than short term success.

They'd have to dig 2 of them up first.

I do understand what you are trying to say donnie, but i think he has served his (admittedly short) prison sentence and is now performing well in his profession as a footballer. He wouldnt be my first choice as a player, but i do think people deserve a second chance - after all, he doesnt have a track record of continual misdemeanours like joey barton does he? He committed one dreadful crime and served his sentence - not easy, particularly for the family of the dead man but time to move on now me thinks and if he keeps his nose clean off the pitch and performs on it i wouldnt have a problem with him wearing a town shirt.

He has been offered a new contract , apparently nearly £3K per week, at Latics. Currently he can only speak to other clubs if they offer £400,000. Can you do that? talk to who he wants as from tomoz.

Would he do a job? possibly. Is he a murderer? yes Has he done his time in the eyes of this country's system? yes Has he done his time in the eyes of me? No, he should have been killed. I wouldn't want Lee Hughes to play for us, however I think you go too far. People drink and drive all the time and most of the time, thankfully there are no serious consequences. Lee Hughes, Luke McCormack and even Terry Yorath should give everyone who ever considers getting behind the wheel whilst under the influence, pause for thought. You might have been lucky up to now, but next time you might kill or seriously injure somebody. Lee Hughes made a terrible criminal mistake, which had terrible consequences that he and the family of the person he killed are going to have to live with for the rest of their lives. Do you think that everyone who has ever had too much to drink and then driven should also be killed, or only the ones who are unfortunate enough to have been involved in a fatal accident; because in the end only luck separates the two. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone and all that.....

I wouldn't say he needs punishing further or anything, as with a lot of sentences are too short but he has still served the time he was told to.
But I don't like him and I wouldn't want him at Town. I'd find it a struggle to cheer on the man. He's doing a decent job at this level but is coming to the end of his career and if he could do it in the Championship, he'd be playing there now.
Lets look to other options please, preferably younger/better ones.

What i meant was that justice would have been done if he'd have died in the accident. Not that he should be put down.

Alright, calm down! Why would Hughes want to leave us for you though, Donny maybe, more money and possibility of Championship football next year. But the same goes for us.Just wishfull thinking if you're joping he won't be at Gayfarm on saturday chaps You're kidding yourselves if you think you're going up. You and Scunny will drop out of the Play Off places and it's between us, Leeds, Stockport and Tranmere to take your places. Still, at least you might manage to get rid of your murderer .

I personally couldn't care less about his past. he went to prison for his mistakes qand has since started a new life.
the guy is a goal machine. if he scores the goals to get us up then I sign him. it's all irrelevant anyway. I'm sure oldham won't let him go.
