Don't be silly!! All Leeds fans are fit. Ain't that right Hola. Absolutely Rach, not only do we support the greatest football club in the world we are also unbelievably easy on the eye. It's not fair really.

It's no doubt just me but I wasn't that impressed with the book. It;s gets such high praise which I didn't think it lived up to. I can't imagine anyone not interested in sport enjoying it.

Don't know how old you are hugh but I am of an age when I can remember it all happening and Cloughies reign at Derby so it does make it a great read for fans of that era.

"I would." - Captainslapper I have and would give her 3/10. If she'd worn a Town shirt she'd have got a 4.

Read 'Providing You don't Kiss me' instead.
Much better.
David Peace's Red Riding Quartet are much better an' all. They'll be on Channel 4 in March 2009.

Micheal Sheen* who I think is playing Cloughie in The Damned United just been awarded an OBE-just like Cloughie (Old Big 'Ead). I'm pretty sure any similarities end there though.
* Not the fella who had a breakdown during Apocalypse Now.or went on to become president.

it's out on march 27th 2009 and is basically the best football movie ever made since Escape to Victory!
as far as I know, it's taken a long time to release as they were basically waiting for the best time to release it. it was always scheduled for 2009 springtime. the legal stuff was sorted out before they went into filming. *(they had to pay off the johnny giles family, apparently.)
on the leeds united front. when they lost to donny in the playoffs, mr. bates threw the teddy out of the cot and decided that filming wouldn't be allowed at elland road, which would really have put the film back for obvious reasons, especially since we were filming there within days.
the production had to stump up some more cash. which is probably why there was no food at the Wrap party!!!
p.s Mr David Peace. you are an absolute legend.

Nice summary phil.Town got mentioned in the book many times.Bit difficult to do any filming at the old Leeds Road for Cloughies first game so how did they get over that if it was included?

I think phils on his way round to mine for NYE drinks bt but he told me that chesterfield was used as the old baseball ground(they paid em 20k ish to paint the ground back blue but theyve pocketed the cash and the seats are still green afaik! ;D). Im guessing theyve filmed all the other unavailable grounds at lower league "similar" looking grounds....

they made chesterfields ground look exactly like old pictures of the baseball ground. it looked superb. its tipped to win awards for set design and special effects.
they only used this ground though. just used CGI for wembley and other snippets of Derby games e.t.c.

It is a great book imo dont really see how it could fail as a film with Sheen on board. Some of the dialogue is visciously funny. Clough spent years criticizing the dirty Leeds in his tabloid column so there was a strong element of masochism/bravery on his part in taking the job. I look forward to the initial dressing room scene where he confronts the squad and reduces Eddie Gray to tears, the passage where he sits next to Bremner on the coach all the way to London with no conversation beyond "You will never be a pal of mine" and as he becomes increasingly isolated he resorts to room service at his Leeds hotel and gets pissed with a bell boy. I also like the way his tenure at Leeds is sandwiched between a pre-season friendly vs Town and then a cup game vs Town. On paper it should be a classic!
