is anyone watching this s**t, unbelievable. Give me town vs hartlepool any day. I hope our beloved game is not influenced by the all bullsh*t that surrounds this event. Sorry had to get it off my chest- the most over-rated sport in the world. Said exactly what i feel here! My mums a yank and she enjoys watching snooker more ;D 1- They are too stupid to get rugby so invent a sport supposedly to take about 80 mins but actually takes 3-4 hours 2- they are too stupid to get cricket so invent a sport called baseball which is so boring that it makes wathcing paint dry seem fun 3- i heard some twat on the BBC saying he wanted american eggball to be a "top 4" british sport! is he fecking serious! there are many sports in front of this yankie eggball! the obvious big three in footy cricket and both forms of rugby then tennis, motor racing, snooker, darts, hockey, golf, athletics, bowls, martial arts, rounders even tiddly winks is better than american eggball

Don't they reckon that within 12 years there'll be a London franchise in the NFL? I can't see it myself but that's what some yank 'experts' were saying on t'radio t'other night.

my god the irony. You all accuse the Americans of being insular and then post all this ignorance. Those accusing it of being the most overhyped sport in the world obviously dont mind that 20 pages of every British newspaper is devoted to Assosiation football every day and sky sports news is basically broadcast from the street outside Anfield. If you don't like it fair enough but some of the posts on here are pathetic.

If they put an NFL team here it would DEFINITELY succeed. NFL europe was a minor league. It's like Towns reserves playing in a different town and then when nobody goes to watch making the assumption that they wouldnt go watch the real thing.

American football is a very watchable sport. To compare it with our football is as ridiculous as comparing rugby with cricket. They are totally different sports. Nobody complains about the speed of a 5-day test match, do they ? Or the time taken between deliveries in cricket. It's just part of the game. Once you understand the rules of gridiron and can appreciate the skills needed to throw a 50-yard touchdown pass (or catch one), the best gridiron matches can be as exciting as any football match. And I say that as a life-long english football fan.

It would succeed just because there are so many americans in London never mind all the english who like this sort of thing. Good luck to them so long as they have their own stadium and aren't thinking of fouling up wembley's pitch like they did before the croatia game. But as a major game in this country, it will never take off. Aussie rules football- now theres a good game. Much prefer watching that to rugby.

I prefer watching anything to rugby, except perhaps formula 1. Anyway, the thing is that when they have held those two NFL games at wembley it has been full of British people and some Europeans. The Germans for example love the game. I am not saying there weren't any Americans there but thats no way the reason they were successful. And nobody's trying to make it the most popular game in the country, or steal Wembley stadium. Who wants a stadium in such an inaccessible shithole anyway.

In a 5-day test match there is supposed to be a ball bowled every 30 seconds! thus meaning every 30 seconds something could happen a wicket a KP switch-hit etc! In american eggball theres a play and then when the ball is i think turned over a whole set of different players come on! I only watched it last night for Springsteen but had to endure some awful minutes of my life watching that drivel! Thing is they put that on BBC1 but shoved serena williams aresholing some russian on the red button. SHould have been the other way round.

Amazing how so many people can have such a hatred for a sport they clearly do not understand.
I used to say a lot of these stereotypical quotes but if you take the time to understand whats going on on the field (even when the ball isn't moving) American football is an excellent sport and is incredibly intellectual.
The tactics, timing, planning and strategy involved in every play are critical and is much more than men running into each other.
Fair enough if you don't want to try and understand the sport you're all entitled to your opinions but to have nearly 50 posts (mostly negative) about it is a bit excessive is it not? - on a board not related to the sport!
Bring on wembley in October and bring on a UK franchise in the coming years. I will back it all the way

Well said Dyson. Most people take the view that if they didn't do it while growing up in West Yorkshire it must be crap, but it's the Americans who are insular, apparently.

The tickets for next October's Wembley match sold out very quickly. I think an NFL franchise would do very well in England. I do agree that there is a danger of the Wembley pitch being spoiled by too much gridiron action (8 matches a season).

think part of the issue is people seeing absolutely no reason for there to be a break in play every other second n them celebrating for no apparent reason-i get the impression it goes on far too long (for a supposed 60min game it seems like it'd go on forever if it could)

Unlike english football, possession of the ball is key in US football. So any play where possession of the ball changes hands (interception, fumble recovery) is a cause for celebration by the players and seen as a change of momentum within the game. Of course, if you don't understand that, you will naturally wonder why everyone is getting excited. Imagine an American being confused by an lbw decision or applause for a maiden over in cricket. It's not dissimilar.

Americans are nut's. It's bred into them to believe their way is the only way. They criticise other countries for hiding behind religion to fight wars, while asking "god" to bless america. They have been allowed to use the word 'football' to describe something that is not. They are fat. They shoot each other far too often for my liking. BUT they did give us Baywatch, what better way to spend my saturday evenings as a teenager. Agree with the baywatch bit, but the rest is just a little bit of a generalisation. Baywatch was actually funded by UK investors!

If we did get a franchise over here the NFL would throw cash at it and build a purpose built stadium i believe. I wouldn't want it to be based at wembley.
