I'm in one of the pictures!
I'm the guy in light coloured jeans stood just below the 'MON' bit of the big Heckmondwike flag in the corner of the pop side.

I think I hope this works . Thrice is the one with the gems and blue hair. Still got a seat from the old ground that I had the foresight to lift that day. A mate and I also carted off the subs bench but we had to dump it at the top of Kilner Bank after being overcome by exhaustion.

Nice to see Anthony Worrall-Thomson was a Town fan in the day! Move over Kleverboy!

use tinypic mate, you don't need to be registered Thanks but talk me through it step by step if you will. I've saved the snap to my desktop. When I then upload it after hitting "host it" it brings me straight to image shack and then I'm stuck.

Go to imageshack or any other hosting site, click "browse" and select the picture. Then "upload/host". When that's complete, copy the bottom code (there will be a few different ones, and the bottom is usually a direct link to the picture). Come here and paste it. If it doesn't have IMG tags around it already, put before and [/IMG ] after (without the spaces).

Me & My younger brother were in't Examiner after this match. We were stood resting on the advertising hordings on't Pop stand and just happened to be behind the Endsleigh boarding, right above the END bit. We were snapped and it was in the paper the next day.
My dad still has a copy somewhere, if its in easy access then i'll stick a picture up.

Awesome pics. Its striking how 'old fashioned' people looked back then, even though its not really that long ago! It was a great season that year watching the McAlpine rise in the distance. I'm sure it was sunny for every game as well?!
I reckon I'm just out of shot in a few of the pics of the popular terrace based on where we used to stand. Of course, my recollection is that I was more stylish than most of the people pictured!

Fantastic pictures. I'm proper nostalgic now. Forgot about that bloody scoreboard. They managed to get the half time scores on it by about 70mins of the game. And only then if you could work it out!! I miss that place!

I miss that place! Not always, sometimes they were up at half-time. 4th division championship season, last game. Tension. We were losing 0-1 to Hartlepool at half time needing a win to be sure of being champions. Walsall were our challengers. For you young 'ens that can't remember the old scoreboard, they used to open doors to put the scores in, opening them so they could only be seen from the main stand till they were closed, one group at a time. When doors were then opened for the group that contained the Walsall v Newport game a huge roar went up from the main stand as the numbers were being slid in, and we, on the main terrace, had an agonising 20 second or so wait until the doors were closed showing Walsall 0 - 3 Newport. Cue mass celebration ;D ;D The championship was ours! ;D ;D

Meaning you had to buy a program or the scoreboard meant nothing? Thats how i remember it.

Yup. The trick was to have a mate who smoked and get him to hand his programme to you when he lit up at half time.

Jesus It's been so long since those days and as I was only 7 when we moved to the Galpharm that picture 3 looks really weird But picture 5 brings strongly brings back memories - the first thing I saw going to my first football match as a 4 year old and taking in everything as much as possible... probably why it stands out so much. I wish I had have had more time to experience Leeds Road more than I did. I only got 2-3 seasons worth of it

Wow them are amazing. Wish I had some pictures of the big day to share I was a ballboy for that, I think just were SL was, but I'd been sat down and hidden behind the boardings. I was supposed to get hold of the corner flag but I had no chance against the town masses! Remember spending over an hour on pitch after we got changed - don't think I fully appreciated it at the time being only 12. Did anyone go to the reserves match a few days later - have the vague memory of us running onto the pitch and looking around for the last time. even got some free programmes haha. That was very surreal !

Has anyone noticed that NOBODY has a name or number on the back of their shirts (as far as I can tell).
I like the 'no name no number' look, the question is then, when did the clubs start charging the extra tenner for doing a quick spot of ironing?

Is that right? Blimey!
All i can remember is Cowan or someone else small who used to play up the left hand side playing for half a season with the 'A' having fallen off his 'Gola'!

It does bring back emotions (I was at that match too and walked across the ground at the end, the only time I ever set foot on the pitch in my life). I wouldn't want it back though, look at the pics of the areas behind the stands etc. It had become just another run down ground with all its best years well behind it. Moving to the new ground when we did is the best thing Town could have done.

I dont think we got names on shirts till about 97/98?
I suppose names on shirts came in when clubs switched to squad numbers, which I think was the first Premier League season, with lower leagues following a few seasons after. Otherwise anyone could be any number for a given match and fans names and numbers wouldn't match the players.
