Rather than people PM me asking for details, I thought I'd post this on here for everyone to see. For anyone that's interested in going to the Southend game on the train, there's an opportunity to get a return journey for £27.10. Just to put it into perspective, buying a return ticket on the day is £95. The coach will probably be £20-£23, but there won't be any time for a few pre-match bevvies going on the coach will there? It's very easy to get these cheap tickets. Basically you're going to need 3 email addresses, 5 different tickets and this link. Once you've got 3 different email addresses, register them on the above link, for each transaction, enter a different promotional code to get £5 off, and you can take it from there. The tickets you want are: Adult Return from Huddersfield to Manchester Piccadilly (£10.20)Adult Advance Single from Manchester Piccadilly to Prittlewell (departing Manchester Piccadilly @ 6:35/6:55/8:15/8:35/8:55) £15.00Adult Advance Single from Prittlewell to Manchester Piccadilly (departing Prittlewell @ 17:08) £15.00Adult Return from Prittlewell to Southend Victoria (£2.10)*Buy this ticket with one of the others in the same transaction* PS: If there's a group of you, it's probably cheaper to get a taxi straight to the ground. PPS: Prittlewell is closest to the ground, but it's in a residential area so you're best off going on one stop further to Southend Victoria where there's more pubs to visit. It looks like it'll cost £42.30, but with 3 different email addresses you can go to the link above and get three £5 discount codes. You then use these codes to get £5 off each TRANSACTION (not each ticket). Therefore the £5 discount off each of the transactions I've detailed above cuts the cost from £42.30 to £27.30. Hope this makes sense.

I hardly ever go on the train so i appologise if this is a stupid question.
When you select a time on the website, you dont actually have to get that specific time (there isnt that time on the ticket) or is the ticket only valid for the train time selected?
cheers

If it's an advance ticket (like the Manc to Southend singles and vice versa) then you have to travel on the train you booked. If it's just a day ticket (like the Hudds to Manc return ticket) then you usually can travel on any train you wish.

I had some jobsworth moaning and wanting to charge me for getting the empty train five minutes before I should have from Sheff to Donny when I went to the Orient game .

Cheers mate
Will get Southend booked tomorrow i reckon.
No problem with jumping on the Prittlewell train after game even though we wont have a ticket from there?

I had thought about that, but just to be on the safe side I'm going to edit what I've already put in the original post.

£26, so if you're 26 or under and plan on going to Southend and Bristol Rovers then it's worth getting one.

It's for 12 months and knocks a third off the price, so you have to spend £72 on standard tickets for it to be worth it, but with advance ticket you sometimes don't need to spend as much.
So without a railcard a return to Southend and Bristol is £52, but with a railcard it's only £21 making a £31 saving, so it's already paid for. It's funny how train tickets can work sometimes.

Do you have to actually sit in the seat number it gives you as im booking for me and someone else but due to these codes you obviously have to do it all seperate and therefore it wont give seats together.

You don't have to sit in the seat number, and often it does actually give seats together. All you have to make sure is that you're on the right train, there's nothing preventing you from sitting elsewhere.

Booked it. One last thing, i noticed that the change over times from the train to tube, there is no time gap between this change over, i take it that they are quite close by?

Yeah Euston Underground is within the main train station, otherwise. It doesn't show what time the tube is though because on the train booking websites they don't have the tube timetables.
It shouldn't take more than 20 minutes from Euston to Liverpool Street so the 50 minutes it gives you is plenty of time.

So you can travel the underground on that ticket or do we need to buy seperate underground ones when we get there? Sorry for all questions

We are on the one which arrives at Prittlewell at 12.08. Didnt fancy 3 to 4 hours in Southend to be honest. 2-3 should be plenty

The Manchester to Prittlewell and vice versa tickets include underground travel as you're using the tube to get to/from your destination.

Haha no I'm not a train spotter, but as a frequent traveller on the railways I'm always looking for ways to cut the cost.
Biggest tip by far has to be split ticketing.

If i remember correctly i think Prittlewell is the best to go to, there is a pub directly across from the station which was decent and then its about a 10 minute stagger to the ground from there.

Thanks for the tips, booked mine and my mates from Preston and only cost me £22.50 and her £11.00 cos she has a rail card.
A word of warning though, we're going via Manchester on the way there as well and I had to book us on different trains to London because they had sold out of advanced tickets on the 12:15 train which I booked myself on first. They only have a limited amount of advance tickets per train and they appear to be selling out fast.

Departing Manchester at 10:15? Getting there a bit late that isn't it?
And with the exception of the 7:15/35/55 and the 9:15 from Manchester then from what I can see the £15 singles are still available.
