Hippy,
Why do you have an avatar saying "Poland First to Fight" if you are so anti-violence?

This surprises me, moderators of message boards relating to football and inadvertently advocating violence. I've been a drinker in the crescent in the past, and comfortable even though I was surrounded by "boys" who like a "rook". Peoples past is one thing, the image portrayed by a guy who quotes Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori as his signature says another. This aint a character slur, but even on here I thought we were safe from those that "get off" on that. An refert, ubi et in qua arrigas? Football brought us all together, and its other mindless activity that's pushed me away from going to football. I like loud and proud, but like I 've quoted in the past - when I was escorted away from the Alf for my own safety for protesting against the monkey chants Birminghams Peter Ndlovu recieved, who, as we all know helped us the year after. Its scenes like that, that makes guys like me who don't get off on it, think they are all a bunch of mindless idiots and they really don't care about the game.. HYC Huddersfield Youth Clocks futuō Pēdicāre - Thats what I heard happened to some of the "Boys" in the Gemini club.. Please tell me polish, that wasn't you....

Riggafan, i'm am not advocating football violence at all but I have pointed out that as a young lad I used to get involved therefore as a slightly more mature person now I feel able to comment on both sides of the debate. Two things took me away from footy related aggro, becoming a father and the death of a Chelsea fan who was killed in the early 80's (1983 I think) after attending a Town match. I wish people could enjoy footy without having to resort to aggro these days, getting your head caved in, disfigured or killed for supporting a footy team is not what it's about.
terrierneil, I do not advocate footy violence, my avatar is nothing to do with footy, it relates to WW2.

Well BBB no need for justification old fruit, was just passing comment - but especially now terrierng has provided us with some profound justification, clearly on your behalf. Glad you enjoyed the film - I found it a little too "fantasy" with the Faun and all that jazz.. Didn't realise that If I was talking to a old war vet that it would make all the difference, so apologies - should have realised this before I typed.. Violence prevails. I would have thought those who killed on behalf of her majesty would be the most unlikely candidates for unwarranted violence in the "civilian" world. All the lads I know who have served generally duck a fight because they CAN kill someone. War is one thing, Football is clearly another. I blame Bobby Moore and Sly Stallone, Pele etc for Escape to Victory. Someone's clearly missed the subtle crossover between the two. Mind you, boys will be boys...!

Oooo.....Sarcasm, lowest form of wit, higher form of intelligence (allegedly) Now, Dicky old boy, It seems to me you have taken exception to me and see fit to attempt to get a rise out of me, however i have a business to run and you need to go back to counting screws, so i'll try not to take too much of your time up. What image exactly does the Latin statement in my signature portray? The fact that i was a loyal subject of HM and her Government, that i was prepared to give my life for them and that i am fiercely proud of my time in the Service of my country or do you have a different take on this? You've gone to great pains to slur my character so before i take steps to address this id like you to clarify for me the following: "I thought we were safe from those that "get off" on that." and "unwarranted violence in the "civilian" world" and where exactly they can be attributed to me. If these particular statements are aimed at me in reference to my "Get in there" post then perhaps i should make it clear now, that if a gang of out of town thugs venture into a pub looking to slug it out with the local thugs then they have gone into such a situation with the sole intention of meting out violence and knowing the ramifications of their actions. If they come off second best as a result then they deserve everything they get, and i will applaud such an outcome. In fact its the irony i applaud more than anything. Incidentally, if your chums have served, they are no more able to kill a man than a civilian who has never served. I didn't have you down as someone who would buy into the schoolboy "trained to kill with their bare hands" stories. So your reference to them being more able to kill or to be exact "because they CAN kill someone." is just plain silly and i fail to see what you are intimating at In fact i cant believe I'm reading such rubbish. If indeed they have seen action then the chances are they had a 5.56mm SA80 in their possession and just so you know......there is a world of difference between a boozy punch up and an exchange of small arms fire and there can be no comparisons drawn from being on the receiving end of a Artillery/Tank barrage to being subject to a volley of lager bottles. Ask my fellow combatants who now sport the latest in prosthetic limbs. If you want me to judge, castigate or denounce those involved in the violence in the Vulcan you will be waiting a long time. I am in no position to judge anyone and would not be so arrogant as to do so. You however feel at liberty to judge anyone, incredibly without knowing anything about that person. Now i can only assume you live your life as per God's teachings for who else besides such an individual would be so bold. Strange then that the Old testament describes events where God saw fit to empower people to slaughter whole tribes. As for my view regarding violence......there is a time, a place and justification for controlled and measured violence. One more thing, on the night of the events that ensued in the Vulcan i was sat in front of my study lab revising for an exam. Hardly the epitome of the knuckle dragging Neanderthal you are attempting to portray me as.

Didn't realise that If I was talking to a old war vet that it would make all the difference Im sure the lads that didnt return from those theatres of ops, or indeed the ones that did, only to take their own lives would love to meet a person who sits hidden behind the safety of his screen making light of the work they undertook. Me, i just see that individual for what he is. You stick to your protests and the soldiers among us will stick to the soldiering.

IKEA KITCHENS ROCK!!! I once tried my hand at the old property development thing. Bought a kitchen from Ikea, and i must say i was very happy with the quality. Now, im no Tradesmen but i did a very good job of fitting the thing myself, did the tiling, fitted the hob, cooker hood etc etc. Mate, the end product was REALLY REALLY good. The kitchen looked excellent, very professional and the kitchen itself looked like a quality kitchen. Fitted together really nicely. No lob sided doors or any of the like. Anyway i spent £8,000 doing the place up and made £28k profit. First people to view bought it. The 2 main things that sold the house were the kitchen and the real American oak floor in the living room.

Pal of mine bought a kitchen from Ikea and carted it in his Focus all the way to the south of France, to install in the kitchen of his newly purchased ski pad.
Anyhow, he opened the first box and realised instead of a white cupboard front, it was sky blue!
So he did the rest of the work on the place and carted the whole kitchen back to the UK.
He returned the kitchen back to Ikea and there assistant was baffled and on opening the first box, she proceeded to peel back the 'sky blue protective film', revealing a nice white cupboard front.
He was well embarrassed!
