Wonderful post that. I've retweeted it to get the message out there, mainly to all my mates who support clubs in PL and haven't a clue of what happens elsewhere.
If I could I'd take my Town shirt and stand amongst them against Barrow. Certainly puts things into perspective when you compare it to what we complain about on here...

Maybe if they ran the club properly and made sure their outgoings weren't more than their incomings Like Town?

My best friend supports Scarborough and goes to almost every game. I've attended a few myself. The mindset of the football fan doesn't change after all this - they still hurl abuse at the useless lump up front if he misses from 3 yards rather than say "well, at least we have a club, mustn't grumble"

I agree. It's human nature that people are getting upset with on some level, ie the look after #1 attitude. That's unlikely to ever change. Maybe without the football on tele more would turn out to watch games. I think it has been a factor in less people watching 'live' football. Which is a shame. I know the quality is not the same but a good live game gives you a lot a TV one can't (Weak beer and scalding hot pies to name just two!) That is a very good point. In my day, the only live games you saw each season was the FA Cup final, and The European Cup final. I also think that watching the top teams all the time, leads Town fans (and all clubs fans) to expect Town to play in the same way. We are in the 3rd division yet fans expect us to play like Man City sometimes.

I agree with what you are saying danny - the problem is though that the terrestrial channels have no interest whatsoever in the football leagues and when the bbc pull the FLS there will be no highlights of anything other than the prem and the live championship games - this despite the bbc being a public body which is supposed to cater for the general public. So you think NOBODY is going to bid for the domestic terrestrial football league highlights?! The bbc aren't 'pulling the plug' as such, it's simply that the 3 year deal expires at the end of this season. They MAY even bid for the new rights package, but they've got to say the correct things at the moment. Channel 5 might be in the market (especially at a reduced price), as they lose the Europa League games after this season (to itv and espn) which I think would leave them with no football. Fwiw, getting the highlights away from bbc and canning that god awful show would be a brilliant move...just think, no more bland non committal claridgisms, no more of that inane fat bloke whose name escapes me wasting minutes of screen time behaving like a school boy, and no more lizzy reading out the most pointless points of view messages I've ever heard, "John from Huddersfield says Town were awesome this week...". It's time for a change.

Yup, the BBC aren't doing live Championship games after this season, Sky have more FL games than the previous deal because of that. Also from what I understand from someone in the broadcasting industry, the FL at the moment can't even give the rights away for free to FTA (the way I understand it, even if the rights went for free, you still have to pay to film the games, plus, with Goals Express on SSN, you don't even get to show the highlights first anyway, as Sky get to do that). So as it stands, as far as I know, there's very little interest from any FTA broadcaster even if they don't have to pay for the rights.

Craig Liddle deserves a medal for all he's done for that club recently. Life is cruel sometimes.

It's time for a change. As poor as it is at times, it is far, far better than the dross inter spaced with ads ever 15 minutes on ITV. We were often lucky to get a mention. We even get a decent set of highlights on the website each Monday. It's not all bad.

Aren't Darlington's problems far more to do with Reynolds building them a new 25,000 seater stadium, when they get crowds of about 3,000 at best, rather than the lack of money in the lower leagues compared to Premiership though? Hope it's not the end for them, though sadly it looks as though it might be.. Correct. It is not sky's fault that they have been horribly managed in the past and that the club appears to have been completely unaffordable since they moved into a stadium double the size they needed. Having said that, if was a premiership player I would be ringing round each club getting each player to pledge 1% of 1 weeks wages. That is all it would take to keep the club afloat.

Apparently funding has been received to allow them to continue for at least the next 3 games.

Yet another club who don't own their stadium running into problems. The Darlington situation just be a warning to all Town fans what could potentially happen to us.

Take Town for example-average crowd in 1991 when the Premier League started...what 6000 .....now 11500-12000!!? I would hazard a guess that crowds per se across the divisions are a lot higher now than they were pre the Premiership/Sky!!!!!

Why? The Galpharm is a community stadium with ownership from Town , Giants and the council. It is not and never has been , nor ever will be Towns' Ground...
