BBC Radio Manchester broke this news during afternoon sports programme. Oldaham fans saying he's a comedian. They don't seem bothered. To be honest, he's extremely popular with the vast majority of fans at Oldham. A breath of fresh air around the place after the awful Dave Penney season where the team was built around Huddersfield cast-offs like Keigan Parker. If a big spending club with facilities like Huddersfield came calling, there's a reality for Latics fans that it's inevitable that he will move on. Boundary Park isn't exactly where you'd want your managerial career to peak. As it happens, I think he'd prove a success if he did go to the Galpharm, but while I usually consider that the "steamer" in next manager betting will be the next manager of that club, it's just not a fit on this occasion. Grayson's a fit, Davies is a fit. But Dickov? I think he's done a great job of keeping Oldham in the division on a budget that would barely fill the coach with diesel for an away trip to Hartlepool. But ultimately his one achievement as a manager is beating Crewe and Bradford in the JPT to get within a game of a Wembley final - failing over two legs against Chesterfield. Unless Huddersfield are entering a period of significant financial adjustment Paul Dickov will not be the next manager. As for some of the nonsense posted on here about his negative style of play - I think it says more about your ex-manager's inability to field teams that could score more than 2 goals in 4 games against a side of £600 a week kids than it does about Dickov. And if I recall correctly, it was Oldham who played the exciting and incisive football at Boundary Park last season. In those 4 games I haven't seen Huddersfield deliver much - other than Alan Lee's elbows flailing around a little, as they do. The man is no tactical genius but the team he fields invariably try to keep it on the floor. At times it leaves them exposed and, like today, the occasionally battering ensues. I assume Hoyle is going to go shit or bust now he's missed out on Warnock. Could be an interesting appointment when it comes.
