I can't find the link for this, but he was directly quoted in yesterday's Mail on Sunday.
I had consoled myself that our wage bill was probably only matched by Charlton...given they signed 17 players in the summer, but if there's any truth in his quote then it perhaps gives an even clearer indication as why Dean lost patience

I think it will probably b true..when you see players choosing us over the likes of itfc it surely says something about our wages..

And how does Chris Powell know what our wage bill is?

And how does Chris Powell know what our wage bill is? I don't know whether it's true or not, but in any industry people have contacts, talk, swap notes, word gets around, etc. Most industry insiders probably have a fair idea what our wage structure looks like.

Well if it's half Towns they've smashed a hell of a lot from it in the last 12 months, as their 2010 wage of 10m+ was certainly larger than Towns wage bill at the time. Like us, they look screwed if they don't go up (they will)...you can only sustain debts of £30m+ in league 1 for so long before you need a way out.

Whilst I am sure that our budget might be higher than Charltons, I am more sure that "our wage bill is half theirs" isn't factually correct. Sure it is just his way of saying, its not as high as HTAFC's
A bit like us saying 3m wouldn't buy Jordan RHodes's socks. You coudl probably get his boots, shorts and socks for 3m (plus add ons).

At canalside last thursday Dean Hoyle said that wage bill is currently £7.1m and would have to be cut to £4.2m if we were still in league 1. (think i've remembered that correctly)
Would think CAFC's wage bill is over £3.5m

Powell ought to stick to his own team's affairs as opposed to a team he knows nothing about.
That said, I suggested in a previous post that Dean inferred in his radio interview that his team was one of of not highest paid/costly assembled squad.

No doubt Megson has said the Wendies' wage bill is less than ours etc etc.... probably just a way of deflecting the pressure, knowing that they aren't going to be openly rebuked on it by another team revealing all the wages in their squad

Good old EBITDA - accountant/City speak for "if we hadn't made all those losses we'd have earned..." Anyway that table shows what a bubble football lives in. Any business sustaining those yr on yr losses would have gone to the wall many moons ago. 2007, wages just a shade below their entire turnover - absolutely bonkers...

Oh, I don't know, I enjoy having part of my bonus tied into EBITDA measurement. I don't think it was a term I'd heard of 5 years ago!

It's a term that stuck with me from the late 90's and the Telco boom/bust cycle...
Some right dodgy accounting goes on in them City figures...

Don't wish to get drawn into an accountancy debate. But what has EBITDA done wrong? It is simply Earnings Before Interest Tax Depreciation and Amortisation and can be used as a proxy for cash. It is the best way of comparing companies from different/same industries as it reflecrs the trading position of the company and isnt influenced by accounting policies/capital structure that are non cash items (see list above). As an aside N7, only a.week or two ago you were quoting an Examiner article, saying there is.no chance our players were earning £x per week because wages would be x% of estimated turnover. I suggest you need to revise that opinion on reading recent published figures. God that was boring. Ill stick to complaining about Lee Clark / Gobern / Lee / Glennon / Hudson in the future I think.

I don't know Floyds I'm not an accountant but always thought it was a way that businesses carrying large amounts of debt could add a bit of spin to their figures whilst they were still making losses and therefore use the EBITDA figures as a headline to attract investors?
Please continue the debate as it will possibly put me right on that cynical viewpoint, though don't think you'll ever manage to change my way of thinking that the 'City' & its global peers are just a huge cycle of corrupt people generation after generation...

It's the Daily Mail. It must be true. Did they manage to squeeze any references in about it being the fault of Asylum seekers?
