www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/173508-rhodes/Glad he's thrown Mandaric and Jones off the scent eh... These posters must be right though, because anyone who scores 40 goals in a professional football season clearly struggles against defenders... They conveniently forget the 4 he scored at Hillsboro' but hopefully there'll be a sane or less arrogant Wednesday-ite who'll come along with a more reasoned post in due course...

He did look poor on Saturday though (due to no service up to him), if he hadnt got so many goals this season I think he would have been subbed. One chance though and he'll put it away, thats why he stayed on.
I thought it was a decent balanced argument on Rhodes. Give him crosses and service into the box and he'll score. Ask him to run around a lot outside the box and thats not his game.

Never had a chance with the shocking service he was getting, but some credit has to go to their CBs, Maguire especially I thought was excellent.

Don't think theres anything wrong with that Owlstalk thread to be honest, he was poor on saturday but the service on saturday to him was non exsitant. but most of them say what we all know that hes a class player who is absolutely lethel in the box.

I just won't accept peoples views and opinions on him when they've watched him 2, possibly 3 games. He didn't score on Saturday after a 40 game season and therefore he can't cut it in the prem. Morons

Why? From January to summer his value wasn't going to plummet significantly enough for us to be forced to sell. We know we rejected bids in January and were telling clubs that we weren't considering any offers until the end of the season. One Owlstalk quote; He scored two goals in three games! 11 goals in 19 games since January. Rhodes is well known for his laziness?! He's been our top scorer for three seasons! ;D

"I've tried to watch him really closely the past four times I've seen him (against us at Galpharm and the 3 play off games) and I think his game is average. He's anonymous for quite a lot of the game, when he gets the ball he can be quite wasteful in possession, whether that's his first touch, his passing or his choice of pass. He's not a particularly good at running with the ball and he's not brilliant at holding play up and bringing others in." Is he talking about Jordan Rhodes or Emile Heskey

Fair point about JR not getting the service Saturday.I think that the root cause of that problem was that Town didnt keep possession well enough on Saturday.Thats one of the reasons I would have an upgrade in central midfield as a priority.
ps Maguire did play him very well to make his life very difficult.

It was the initial couple of posts that brought it my attention jqhtfc - guess there must be more reasoned comments on there now?
I don't get how JR having scored 40 goals at L1 level is supposedly worth what is relatively peanuts and then that lad from Crewe is being talked about as a Man Utd player from L2. I know he's young and clearly a prospect but JR has just got the knack (in most games) of making space for himself, great link-up player, support and knock-offs and can finish with both feet and his head.
Anyway, it's not us goons on these message boards that make clubs buy players... Otherwise we'd have had Kevin Phillips about 6 years ago...
edit to say that had Rhodes got the luck of the bounce when he pulled that ball down on the turn we may well have been looking at a 90 minute game (I think it was normal time).

I have to laugh at peoples opinions on Rhodes. They have seen in him in the flesh for two games and maybe seen him on the tele a couple more times. He does the hardest thing in football which is put the ball in the net, a talent clubs will pay big money for.
He hasnt scored 46 competative goals by accident and he will do 25 plus in the championship. His movement in the box is some of the best I have ever seen by a player in a Town shirt which when you add to his age (only 22) he offers so much potential for a purchaser.
FWIW I think he will do a year with us. Lets see what all these "experts" think then.

Standard football fans though fella, they judge based on what they see, I;ll be honest I think Rhodes exceeded all expectations this season and has a job on his hands now to replicate his stunning form, he doesn't want to be a one season wonder in that respect, I think he will make the step up personally but will do well to get 20 goals next year. I do love how a Barnsley fan is on here trying to tell us that both Town and Wednesday are smaller clubs than Barnsley, when we both got higher average attendances than Barnsley last season despite being a league below....

Rhodes can get away with Murder because of his scoring exploits over the last 3 years
People saying it was because of the service on Saturday are talking shit though. How many times did we give him the ball only for him to give it away stupidly easily. He was our worst player on Saturday FACT, we should still be allowed to say that even though he has been our BEST player this season

I am quite happy for everyone to think Rhodes could not make it at Championship/Premiership level. If it keeps him with us a bit longer then great.
The people that watch him week in week out are the only ones that have a clue about his potential. Even the so called experts aren't there all the time.
Yes I agree, he had a poor game on saturday but I can't remember too many crosses into the box for him to get on the end of. Everyone is entitled to have an off day every once in a while. 40 goals this season say it all IMO.
To be honest, most just want him to leave Town because they are Jealous that we have such a talent, and can't understand why he would want to stay at Town.

He was our worst player by a mile on Saturday and seemed to be the only one who played the occassion and not the game. Dont forget hes still only 22 and perhaps nerves got the better of him and you have to give credit to Collins and Maguire who did a job on him. He has been our top scorer for 3 seasons (I think) and wasnt played in lots of games in the previous to this season just gone so thats a decent achievement. He wont score 40 goals again next season, but he is more than capable of getting 25 in the Championship.

I like to read owlstalk got no problem reading other fans sites, dont see point in registering and getting stupid banter going but i think its sometimes interesting to see what other fans think about things. Some of their comments about Rhodes are fair and some are naturally biased and shortsighted. In my opinion Rhodes has proven without any doubt he is a proper goalscorer and what has impressed me is how he has done it in a side that has struggled to create very much (for a top 6 side) without a regular line up either with all the chopping and changing going on around him and no real consistency from wide players. However.. he has this ridiculous label to keep living up to now and and until he steps upo at least one level nobody knows any more than then next person. Slightly amused that one or two on owlstalk think they could sign him! Think they are a minority though and got d at by their friends.
