It took long enough for Town to get an agreement at the start of the season, if you remember. Damo was back at Plymouth, who were in the proverbials, but no deal could be struck on who paid what share of Damo's wages...and Damo wasn't going to take a cut in his contract with Plymouth. I said then I thought there was a touch of the mercenary with Damo, and now he's turned down a permanent deal...fair enough, but to be honest we could never have built a team round him, he was too unreliable...and thus we need a top midfield man anyway..Did his bit for Town when it mattered, he certainly owed us that after what we've paid him over past 2 years..
Hopefully with him and Miller gone , we don't have to delve into the veteran loan market anymore (Alan Lee excepted)..

Even with Johnson and Miller gone, we still have four midfielders in Gobern, Robinson, Arfield and Kay. Plus Atkinson and Crooks in the wings. Do we need a seventh? Even if Arfield plays out wide we still have five players on the books to fill the two vacancies. Their quality may or may not be of Championship standard but they all draw wages, and if SG wants to reduce his squad and keep a hold on the salaries we may only see one player (on loan?) to add to these names. If we start and finishing the season with that midfield we'll be back in League One before we know it.Can't say I'm bothered that Johnson isn't staying think we can get better and younger from elsewhere. I'm all for being hypothetical, but the likelihood of our central midfield consisting of those 4 for the entire season is zero.

Those 4 wouldn't have got us up never mind stand any chance of keeping us up. Arfield has something to offer and Gobern might benefit from being loaned out to a L1 club to see if he develops a bit. The other 2 can move on for me as they aren't good enough. If we're going to compete we need to sign 3 good central midfielders IMO.

Poor, poor comment Thanks Damo, a quality player and different to the other midfielders we have/had. Excellent in the play offs and hope you get fixed up with a good club. Thanks for helping us get our promotion.

I think it was a shame he got injured when he did last season, because i believe a fit johnson all that time would have seen us beat Southampton to 2nd.
Thanks for your efforts lad and good luck!!!

I think McCann was found out at Champ level
Good player but I'd rather we had some legs in the engine room and if the Sean Davis thing is true then we are replacing aging midfielders with aging midfielders

Grayson knows this league better than any of us. He'll sort us out with a solid midfield.

I wasn't speaking about the relative skills of our current midfielders, rather the total salaries which they are drawing (which have presumably increased due to promotion). If they are as bad as is made out, then who will take them off us? We can't be paying players who don't get a game (bearing in mind thatwe have no reserve team). I also forgot Tom Clarke, so we currrently have seven players vieing for two spots. If SG is going to take on a midfielder, then surely it has to be someone out wide, we now only having Ward, Higgy & Arfield to choose from.

Thanks Damo! Big fan of his. Best midfielder Clark brought in by a mile, a real shame he had so many injuries. Not too bothered about him not coming back next year as i think he would only have been a fringe player anyway. Def need a minimum of 2 CM's in now
Good luck DJ and thanks (Plus congrats on the worst penalty i've ever seen by a Town player!)

Disapppointed personally, the best central midfielder to have played for us in a long long time. Was a superb signing.
Feel his experience may well be needed next year. Certainly missing last season whenever he didn't play. He was a cut above away at MK Dons and in the final.
But if its a question of a 2 year deal or not, I completely understand our stance. Needs a top class signing to fill his boots! But if we get one, longer term better off. Its an if though!

It sends out the message that we won't be taken advantage of just because we have a wealthy owner.

All Fleetwood have done is what we have been doing ourselves for a couple of years. Paying over the market in salary and contract length, its always a gamble. Good luck to the guy anyway.

Maybe SG had told him he wouldnt be first choice with us - just back up - hence joining Fleetwood for a guarenteed game. Just a thought.
