Love them or hate them the Irish fans were quality last night, particularly the last ten minutes, 4-0 down and the only thing you could hear was that chorus reverberating around the whole stadium. Takes something very impressive to get the press talking about the quality of the Irish fans over that of the Spanish masterclass performance.
Thinking back to the second half of MK Dons away in the play-off semi-final hope we can put in a few more stints like that next season….

TBF they were bored to shit - they had jack all to cheer about so to get their moneysworth had a good sing-song much to Roy Keane's disgust :fish:

If they were Town fans, some would be complaining that we only had one song! :scarf:

Putting the (seemingly unpopular) Ireland context to one side it would be nice if we could fill a few away ends next season and generate that kind of noise…..
Alan: Now I must say I’m very grateful you’ve come over – big fans of all the Irish…stuff. Love your pop music, Enya, and the other one – ripped up the Pope, bald chap? And I think… that’s it. Aidan: Well, there’s U2, of course. Alan: Oh, well, yeah. Fantastic. ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’. What a great song. It really encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday, doesn’t it? You wake up in the morning, you’ve got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you’ve got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think “Sunday, bloody Sunday!”

But its not the Eurovision Song Contest, it's the European Championships isn't it! Even Killer Kilbane seems to be confused....
Roy Keane thinks he's the fount of all football knowledge, yet gets sacked from his manager posts and left the Irish Squad in a huff some years ago. Most of the other pundits are also incapable of management.
Town have a large second third and fourth generation irish following, some of whom are the most loyal (see what i did there) we have, the abuse on this thread is uncalled for. Oh the chap on my row is from india, anyone know any ghandi jokes?
I'm pretty sure that if they had committed genocide on us like we proud English did on them a few hundred years ago then we would dislike them as much as they dislike us now. Let's all laugh at the potato famine and while we're at it we should laugh at our children being killed for going to school or locals being shot for daring to speak there own language.
Irish fans are just like the jocks.. They celebrate defeat.
Henning Vean, a German comedian (yeah I know) with the wierdest accent you`ve ever heard, on the radio before the Holland/Germany match was taking the piss out of the Dutch (and any other country) saying he couldn`t believe that in the last tournament the Dutch players complete with w.a.g.`s & kids did a lap of honour after a group game win.
He reasoned that if Germany lose in the final they may as well get beaten in the group stages - you celebrate winning the tournament, anything else is failure. ( trust that meets with your approval Berlin-Yuppie-Champion ?)
One other point with regard to Roy Keane, it`s a bit rich him bad mouthing the way the Irish lads performed seeing as how he walked away from his last tournament as a player cos he didn`t like the manager, however gash that team was yesterday against the current World & European Champions at least they ran around a pitch for 90 minutes.

I thought it was because of the FAI and the shabby training facilities etc but feel free to make it up as you go along.
Make it up ? so Keane didn`t go to war with Mcarthy cos he`s "not even Irish" then ? But you miss the point anyway, I`m not happy with.... so I`m going home, which helped the Irish how ? Dick.

Did you go to 'that' game, when we played away at Middlesboro in the cup?
Best defeat ever.
Maine Road with Supermac in charge, 9.0 down and in the 89th minute TOWN fans celebrate a penalty like it`s a winner, still time for City to restart and get a 10th. Extended highlights on ITV on Saturday night and at 7.0 the camera is on the away end and John Helm says "They are singing and ing their flags with some optimism, now they are true supporters."

Keane was captain of the Irish national team. Since his senior debut under Jack Charlton and then-captain McCarthy, Keane had perceived problems with the preparations of the Irish side. He regarded the Football Association of Ireland (FAI)'s preparations as unprofessional and challenged both Charlton and McCarthy in a number of notable incidents.
Among Keane's issues with Irish management were the conditions of the training field, travel arrangements (which made the players sit in second class seats on flights, while FAI officials sat in first class), strategy, expectations, diet and McCarthy's competence.
