Well despite the doom and gloom, England are still in the Euros, with 3 games to go its a bit like the playoffs.
Can we make it a Town and England double? I hope so - come on England let's beat the Italians on Sunday :scarf:

Not only in it, we pissed our group on points, which is rather a rarity.
Bring on the <insert favorite non-PC epithet for Italians here>.

I can't believe some of the stick fans are giving England for being "shite" and not being positive enough. We just won a group that included a France team unbeaten in 21 heading into the tournament! The maximum expectation was to hold out for a draw against France and beat the other 2 teams, which we did. It might not have been brilliant to watch but we don't have the technical ability in the squad to play beautiful football and pass teams off the park. Italy in the quarters now, if we go down in a blaze of glory this will have been a successful summer for us, if we progress any further we've overperformed massively.

If we'd still been managed by Capello and turned in the same results the tabloids would now be calling for his head. However I agree our performances match the more realistic expectation levels we should have had whoever was manager.

teams that win it always need some luck, we have had some but Hodgson has organised us superbly, just showing now what he has done with WBA and teams like switzerland.....
cant wait until sunday and a classic historical game between two massive football countrys, think e will sneak it 1-0.

Beat Italy 1-0, beat the Germans on penalties and thrash Spain in the final having bored them to death with 3258 sideways passes and 98% possession .. jobs a good un.

Happy with the results, though you could argue we got a bit lucky last night with the goal that never was (though it was offside in the build up) and the number of shots they had, though we did well to restrict them to so many from outside the box.

But with France losing we would have gone through anyway

we might not be playing the best football, but the big difference already under hodgson is that we look organised, we are playing like a team instead of 11 individuals, and we have bags of spirit, which can take you a long way

I am glad England got through to the Quarter Finals. I don't expect them to get much further though unless they start to play better all of a sudden.
Of course its now a knockout tournament and we do have one or two good players that can turn a game, I just think we need to retain possession better to have a chance against the better teams.

Seem to be going about it the chelsea way. May be under the cosh for large parts of the game but defend well, show plenty of character/spirit and hit on the break or from a set piece. This team looks to have a lot more fight in them than recent England teams.

I agree the defending has been immense at times but I don't know if you can defend like that for three more games against teams with more ability without conceding.
I would love to see them win something though. It has been way too long.

We're through; that's what matters. Presumably Germany and Spain are the favourites, yet they both could easily have gone out, had they not had the rub of the green from officials.
Playing a country that need to win, to keep alive their hopes of remaining in a tournament in their home country was always going to be difficult. We may have rode our luck at times, but we defended resolutely, and created a couple of chances.
We're not the best team left in it, by a long shot, but we've got half a chance. The real victory for me is that I actually feel a slight sense of pride towards England again.

So do I, after the South Africa debacle, it's good to see players wanting to play for England without letting their egos get in the way

I think Steven Gerrard has been a colossus for us in this tournament. Should have been captain from the beginning. We aint played pretty football but it has been effective and has yielded results.
Missing a few key players aswell, I think we will have a successful few years under Roy

England get a lot of critisism for our lack of passing ability and the way we cheaply give the ball away a lot. In a way its fair comment- we do, its just how we play the game in this country where attacking quickly is FAR more important than ball retention ( and i hope that never changes).
But did anyone see the game tonight. portugal v Czech republic?
Theres 2 teams that the England critics would have as vastly technically superior to england. But all they did was give the ball away cheaply. stray passes all over the place, lots of aimless long hoofs, and that was both teams. Bet it happened 50 times in the first 15 minutes alone. Always seems to get overlooked when these 'technically gifted' nations do it, but if we do it we are lightyears behind, etc etc

I agree with you totally Amazing considering the squad is made up of players with Champions League, Premiership and FA Cup winners medals. We have a chance. Not a great one but we must believe.

Sometimes though, I can't understand why we do give the ball away so cheaply. Rooney even and Milner seem to be about six inches off in their passing, when that would make all the difference for keeping possession. We'll see on Sunday. Hopefully Rooney got his sharpness back.

People were still slagging England off at half time against Ukraine. Then of course we score and eveyone changes their tune. It's a ficking joke. I don't understand why some people watch England if they don't like them so much.
