Have to say after watching the superstars of the euro championships roll around and dive, it nice to see some proper hard barstewards put themselves through hell.

If our football team were as fit as cyclists, and followed team instructions like a cycling team. We'd be European champions by now.
Tour de France is the worlds best sporting event ever.

great watching cycling. 6 hours or so of seeing blokes sitting on bikes - with the odd spectacular crash along the way. Love the french countryside...only one problem with it....the french.

A mate got me into it, told me what exactly was going on & now I love it

I thought The Tour De France was boring!! that was until i saw it in the Pyreenees and its a fantastic event. Seem it 3 times in total in the Pyreenees and it gets better evry year, pity i wont be there this year.

Shaping up to be a terrific contest. Looks like it'll be between the 2 favourites - Wiggins and Cadel Evans. Sky look to be the far superior team - so it'll take a mammoth effort for Evans (who is the better rider IMO) to ride into Paris wearing the yellow jersey.

I like his response to the implication that he was taking drugs:
The three-time Olympic champion, his generation’s most outspoken proponent of clean riding, exploded at the implication. “I say they’re just f------ w------. I cannot be doing with people like that. It justifies their own bone-idleness because they can’t ever imagine applying themselves to do anything in their lives. “It’s easy for them to sit under a pseudonym on Twitter and write that sort of s---, rather than get off their arses in their own lives and apply themselves and work hard at something and achieve something. And that’s ultimately it. C----."
Michael Owen he is not.

Wiggins at his best today but I feel it's a bit of dilemma for Team Sky with Froome being so strong.
Interesting week in the mountains coming up.

The Tour, undoubtably the sporting spectacle of the year. What strikes me is how gloriously smooth the French roads are, which put our rutted cart tracks to shame. By the way Besancon is twinned with Kirklees, wherever that is

As much as I like the Tour De France, I am far more excited about Otiums account of doing the course in record time backwards on a unicycle.

Wiggins at his best today but I feel it's a bit of dilemma for Team Sky with Froome being so strong. Interesting week in the mountains coming up. I'm not sure its much of a dilemma for them Tony. Wiggins was always the leader and for him to win was always the stated aim. It just so happens in froome they have a guy that looks as though he could well end up on the next step down in the podium in Paris. He is the back-up plan should anything happen to Wiggins. After this showing froome will probably get a leader role for sky in one of the other grand tours. It was in last year's vuelta that he began to show what he is capable of.

interesting how clean france is compared to our shithole, despite them paying less tax than us and being on strike 51 weeks a year.

Do the cycling fans on here think Brad can hold onto yellow into Paris? Be a bloody big ask.

Do the cycling fans on here think Brad can hold onto yellow into Paris? Be a bloody big ask. Doubt anyone can challenge him. Nibali & Evans main rivals, but can't see them beating him by enough up the big climbs. Still another time trial to come as well. Froome won't challenge as he is a team mate, his main helper even. Menchov & vdBroek will try in the mountains, but won't be allowed to get away.
