Doubt anyone can challenge him. Nibali & Evans main rivals, but can't see them beating him by enough up the big climbs. Still another time trial to come as well. Froome won't challenge as he is a team mate, his main helper even. Menchov & vdBroek will try in the mountains, but won't be allowed to get away. VdBroeck, stupid Belgian spelling....

As much as I like the Tour De France, I am far more excited about Otiums account of doing the course in record time backwards on a unicycle. I must say it's been very silent from DATM's own Walter Mitty lately. He's still downloading his Ukrainian photoset

Wiggins at his best today but I feel it's a bit of dilemma for Team Sky with Froome being so strong. Interesting week in the mountains coming up. I'm not sure its much of a dilemma for them Tony. Wiggins was always the leader and for him to win was always the stated aim. It just so happens in froome they have a guy that looks as though he could well end up on the next step down in the podium in Paris. He is the back-up plan should anything happen to Wiggins. After this showing froome will probably get a leader role for sky in one of the other grand tours. It was in last year's vuelta that he began to show what he is capable of. Not sure what length of contract Froome is on but with a nickname of Froome dog millionaire I'd imagine it's a decent one. If its a year then I'd expect him to leave Sky and join a team that's built around him for next year.

Belleville Rendezvous>Tour De France. Lot of respect for the cyclists competing though.
Think 'pelaton' (sp?) is a great word. Sounds very sci-fi, did they use it in Dune or Blade Runner? Definitely should be used for some kind of dystopian Govt set in the future. Bet Vin Diesel is writing a film where The Pelaton is overthrown by a blind guy & Judi Dench flitting around a bit.

But, the ugly side of the sport has reared it's head again today on the "rest day". Cofidis have had a visit from the police and one rider has been taken in for questioning :frusty:

The Tour, undoubtably the sporting spectacle of the year. What strikes me is how gloriously smooth the French roads are, which put our rutted cart tracks to shame. By the way Besancon is twinned with Kirklees, wherever that is Roads are as good in Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland & Luxembourg. Not as good in Belgium but still a lot better than in England. Kirklees especially. Some of yesterdays time-trial was on new tarmac. That will probably have been paid for by the Tour organisation. They won't be paying for the full 3500km though! Back le bid would do wonders for your roads. They would have to improve them to stand a chance of hosting a stage or two. You can back it here www.yorkshire.com/back-the-bid

Over Col de la Madeleine, Col de la Croix de Fer down to St. Jean de Maurienne and back up to Les Sybelles ski resort. I've done the first 2 climbs from the other side, long and indifferent. You can't get a rythm like Alpe d'Huez or Col du Galibier. It's not a very long stage. 91m instead of the 130-140m they usually do every day, but it should be an exciting one as there will be plenty of attacks.

Your man has been leading for 2 days now (one of them being a time trial which he specialises in). He's looking good but not quite a domination just yet... Long way to go.

Starting to dominate it, he said. Wiggins has matched Evans in the climbs so far and then beat him like a ginger step-child in the time-trial. One things fo shua, it's set for some terrific action once they get into the mountains. Be interesting to see what Sky / Froome does if Wiggins cracks at any point.

Nice little tit for tat spat growing between Wiggo and Nibali, they both seem to have something to say about each other. :boxing:

But as a country so far in this tour we've had 3 different stage winners, we have yellow jersey and 3rd place. That's pretty good if you ask me, no other country has 'dominated' this tour like we have (so far). I expect Evans to attack, but even he kind of admitted it's going to be a tough ask, he was only 2 seconds behind Schleck this time last year. This time it's 2 minutes plus he's on a weaker team. Only time will tell.

No doubt he'll pull some time back through the mountains, but I even if he did manage to get back on par with Wiggins I couldn't see him getting far enough ahead to negate the final time trial.

You will be telling me Wiggins was born in Belgium next. Can't beat a good Kenyan in the team.

Apparently it was 91 miles of pure hell Having watched that today I have got to say the guys from your office want certifying (Though I'm guessing they did it for charity, so if they did well done to them). What a great stage it was today. I thought for a moment Froomey had been listening to TonyWal, his terrier director sportif when he went for it as Wiggo was struggling.

I think if Froome had been given free reign today then he would have been gone. However, nice to see an Aussie crack under pressure :iconlol:
Froome must surely be a winner waiting to happen.

Nope, they just did it for "fun"... The fastest one did it in 9hrs30mins - came 600th out of just over 2000 that actually finished it (god knows how many didn't make it). Brutal.

Cav is saving himself for the Olympics - stated in the press after he took green last year and that he is happy to do his best to help Wiggo take the tour and then go for it in London
