I'm not arguing with you, Merkin. It doesn't matter what anyone actually says you just make it up so you have something to argue against. Therefore you don't need me and can continue this thread just as satisfactorily on your own.

The problem is Dan, much like Elt, you aren't really saying anything.
It seems you truly believe that there is no difference in the past performances of the governments of the last 40 years.
I beg to differ.
I haven't made anything up.

"The problem is Dan, much like Elt, you aren't really saying anything."
And yet you just keep on going.

Elt brought the thread back to life.
Blame him.

Other than country's fucked and everyone's a c*** of course...

...but you are just seeing this from one perspective.
Labour fucked the country over in the late 70s. The tories fucked it over even more in the early 80s, but got away on the back of the Falklands War. They then engineered a huge boom, followed by a big bust* and somehow got re-elected in 92. If they hadn't been Labour would have inherited a duff economy. However, as we were climbing out of the recession labour got back in in 97. Such is the electorate.
*just the words make me feel horny, even in the middle of a rant.

"If they hadn't been Labour would have inherited a duff economy."
Everyone knew this in 92 and decided that they didn't trust Labour to sort it out on the basis of the shadow Budget they prepared.

There's no way the economy was knackered in 1992 or 1983.

Do you honestly believe that Dan?
(That is exactly why I've said you've said nothing...nothing of note in any case.)

Talking of those japanese, their deficit is currently around 250% of GDP isn't it? and more now the bank has thrown in a gazillion pounds to stop the market imploding.
wasn't much insistence there on everyone taking paycuts and slashing services.
odd innit.

The economy should never be 'knackered' to the point where is causes so much stress.
Irresponsible governments knacker it up.

A knackered economy with the most unpopular Prime Minister since the War. If Labour hadn't been such fucktards they'd have been given the chance of putting things right rather than John Major.

Everyone who paid any attention to what was going on. So, in retrospect, probably mainly the 10% of swing voters - a much maligned group as they are the ones who don't just vote tribally but on the basis of what they think best at the time. IIRC, in 92 more people voted for Major than voted for Blair in 97.

So your judging her success on popularity ratings now?
If the economy was as knackerd as you say then she must have done an even better job than I thought to have reduced the deficit to a surplus and have the UK economy grow over her decade.
Why do you say it was knackered?
John Major (and another) convinced Thatcher to go into the ERM and it was this cost us a shit load of cash and his job - despite the fact that he also brought us back to surplus.
Both did good (and similar) jobs in terms of figures.
