Hopefully today will have taken some of the pressure off young Duane - there's been a lot of talk about why isn't he starting etc but unfortunately today he was a passenger for the time he was on the pitch. He looked at times like a little boy lost. I was never a great Taylor-Fletcher fan but I thought today he showed Duane how it should be done, even though he looked muscle-bound and massively overweight !
I was delighted when Holmes made the first of his many short cameos a few months ago but surely today shows that it would be a hell of a risk to rely on him next season. I actually have high hopes for him if he achieves his potential but possibly a few months out on loan next season will toughen him up, assuming his attitude is better than it was at Yeovil. He's a young, inexperienced player who needs to learn how to use the skill that he has. At the moment he's just a bit too lightweight and ineffective for Championship football.

He did one or two turns in the middle of pitch that took 2 or 3 of their midfielders out of the game. Hopefully glimpses like that will become more frequent as he develops
Funny that there a threads with Holmes and Scannell getting a bit of stick but not much said about Hogg. Fecking woeful that lad

He has potential. Currently, that's basically it. He might make the odd contribution here and there but not good enough yet. Needs to get some loans under his belt next couple of years.

he is playing in a lightweight and ineffective side. clayton got motm today for a couple of long balls and a lot of sideways passing..
holmes should have played at Donny and blackpool..he made an inpact against Yeovil, he along with the rest of the sus standard championship team looked out of their depth against Leicester city reserves.
by the way if players made first team appearances based on their previous good games, norwood would have started 4 games this season as would hogg.
we kept the ball when Leicester wanted us to and took it off us when it suited..
to look at holmes individually in the side put out today is to look for a scapegoat, there isn't just one, the whole thing looks wrong.

Duane could do with bulking up a little over the summer but Hogg was utter shite today he should have been replaced by Lolley

Pathetic knew if he didn't score he would come in for stick on here lets have some perspective, you could say everyone apart from Scanz and Clayts were passengers, funny when he went off it got even 'worse', perhaps he will even be blamed for that Leicester second goal? Point is that he should be playing behind JV/AN other and Wells then you will see the best of him. Forget loaning him out he always makes a contribution from the bench and if we bring another centre mid in Duane is an handy back up

People talk about him needing to bulk up, but that isn't his main problem: he is too peripheral, he doesn’t get the touches. What Holmes needs to do is work harder off the ball to find the space; when he is in space he can be dangerous. Needs to take a step forward next year, but I am confident he will do so.

he did no worse than anyone else. Give him a close season training as a part of the first team squad. The lad obviously has talent. Can Robins bring it out? I really dunno.

I like him, think he is one of our great discoveries, as I said to my daughter today we will be lucky to keep him for another full season, watch this space ...

Thought the lad did ok in a side lacking any sort of tempo and with sluggish players around him. Had a right argument with the gimmer behind me who steadfastly refused to clap Duane off saying 'he is shite why are you all clapping?'....I despair sometimes I really do...safe to say I let my feelings be known

Exactly, hopefully all the experts on here will finally realise they are talking utter shite regarding Holmes. He has potential but is nowhere near worth a starting place at the moment. Passenger most of the game, too light weight and very naive. That's why he was sent on loan, that's why he has been on the bench.

Loan to League 1 next season for me.
I didn't think he was brilliant but he wasn't THAT bad. Leicester were hard working and reduced the space we had when going forward which stopped Holmes playing.

Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards I'm happy for him to get the experience at this stage of the season. We need better ability (although he has undoubted potential) for next year however I felt that once he was subbed we lost creativity and dynamism. I think he performed better than Norwood. Let's not forget he needs to build up his confidence as it can't be easy stepping up and playing in front of thousands of fans. He needs time and patience.

nowhere near a starting place at the moment???
what the fuck is keeping him out of the starting line up at the moment???
fuck all, at the moment...other than a managers idea that he can only start now and again and bingo, norwood is back in the team, doing monumentally fuck all again..
when the new quality signings?? are made, then there may well be something keeping him out of the starting line up, until then there is absolutely nothing we have in the squad keeping him out..nothing..

Well said. game after game of shite from Norwood (who wants out by the way)and he stays in the side - one indifferent showing from Duane and he will be back out again

Holmes didn't have a great game today but when he was on the pitch and we had possession we tried to play it in their half. As soon as he was replaced by Norwood the ref might as well have blow in his whistle as we then reverted to the sideways/backwards passing that we have become so accustomed to.
ROBINS OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fact is that he isn't very good... Sums him up. Underweight and undersize. Could bulk up but unless he is on the rack for a week or two his height will remain the same.

Hogg is the worst CM in the 1st team squad. Would have no qualms with him leaving at the end of the season.

Thought he looked ok for you guys today when taking into account his lack of experience and age. Loaning him out would probably a wise decision for you lot, we did the same with Schlupp and Moore and are both now important first team players.
Interesting to read the debate about his best position. At his age, it is probably still undecided to be fair. In the academy schlupp was a striker, and when on loan at brentford under uwe rosler he was a striker, but now he is our first choice left back, where as moore was on loan as a right back but this season has played at center half.
Just need to give the young lads time. In fact we did the same with king who also came through our academy, loaned him out before he got his big chance.
Thought Scannell was your best player, but he always plays well against us, always caused us problems when he was at palace.

Commentator on RL "Someone needs to have a word with Holmes. He doesn't find space when running off the ball. Should hang back and not always run into their box and into their defenders."
Or words to that effect. Watching on stream his advice seemed correct.

Thought Holmes was really poor. One or two little runs as is his thing, but that appart he just looked out of his depth, both in terms of the game and certainly in terms of physicality. He really needs to bulk up a bit cos as the moment hes just so lightweight its untrue. Its like having a 14 year old out there and not a big one at that.
But he wasn't our worst player, which had to be Hogg. felt sorry for Clayton once again having to carry the whole centre of the pitch. A lot of players were poor today. Hogg was dreadful, Holmes was poor, Dixon was poor, Wells was poor, hammill was poor, Woods was poor, Clarke was poor
We only had 4 players who were on their game. Smithies, who kept us in it with 2 or 3 good saves, gerrard , Clayton and Scannell.

Smithies - yes, gerrard - average, clayton - thought he was really poor tbh, but maybe that was frustration as yet another hollywood ball didnt come off because there was no movement around him. Scanz - great ability and strength at times, but final ball was absolutely awful. Totally agree re holmes - needs more to his game than beat one man with a nice flick! That said, its no point playing the lad if you dont have anybody but wells supporting his bursts forward ------ dull, dull, dull, dull, dull!

Id say 4 yeah. Smithies kept us in the game, gerrard had a lot of the ball and don't think he gave it away once and won the aerial battle with woods. Scannell, is a sort of simon baldry way, suddenly decided to end the season playing with effort and ability. Agree about the final ball but when your lone striker isn't making any decent movement at all its always going to be hard to pick him out. Not sure how you can say Clayton was poor. Ok he didn't produce the killer ball ( Holmes and laughably Hogg were more advanced and were deployed to do that) , but he kept our play ticking over very well moving it from side to side and rarely losing the ball. can't remember a Town player ever having so much possession- it was like every one of his team mates were instantly looking to give him the ball whenever they had it.
