boro fan in peace; Its looking likely that we are going to sign Clayton, is he any good? also does he play CM or more in a #10 role?
It looks like Butterfield might be moving the other way, would be a very solid replacement.

On what basis does it look like you are signing him, other than you bid 1m and we said 'no' ?
Believe me our chairman only lets players go when the deal is right, so I guess you know of a much improved bid being made ?

wouldn't assume you're signing him mate but fair questions. No, doesn't play the number 10 role. A very solid CM who can play holding or slightly more offensive. Done both jobs for us this season very effectively.

haha cheers for the welcome.
It seems fairly common knowledge up here that he will probably come to boro at some point over the summer.
With his contract being up in a year surely the club would rather sell him than see him go for nothing?

Yeah but they don't get much internet access in boro do they? We would send a pigeon to break the news but it would probably die of smog inhalation!

Seriously don't understand the point in Clayton moving to Boro, may as well stay here and be the main man in the side, probably suits him more as a player

Butterfield plus enough cash could be shrewd business for town. Be nice to see some midfielders getting over the half way lane for a change.

Yep but it was mowbray who signed him though just a few months before he was sacked, karanka has still used him a fair bit but he seems keen to get rid. Surprising really, he looked really good for us towards the end of the season for boro, would be pretty gutted to loose him actually

Will Clayton leave? Who knows.
I know that the modern 'thing' for highly paid footballers with ambition is to move to a London club. That lifestyle and bullshit that goes with it...
However, we have a great set up at Town with players earning decent fundage. Well looked after at a Premier League quality training ground, ambitious Chairman, management and coaching staff who play football the 'Clayton' way.
Fortunately - despite not being a 'London' club - we do habitat on the M62. This means that players from Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds - and as far posting shitholes like Hull - are all within 45/60 mins drive in. We have this advantage over you.
No disrespect intended. But you aren't 'Premier League Boro' anymore. No more Ravanelli Silver Fox...
You are another smoggy shit hole that is in the Championship scrap with us. But, further north and remote from Adam and his family.
Could you offer him more ambition than us? Can you afford to pay the large fee and wages needed? Would he go to live up there?
The answer to some/all of the above is probably no.
But FairPlay to you if he does sign for you - you have my express permission to log this post on your fansite for fun times and giggles if you do.
All the best.

Would be a good deal for us IMO if we were to get a bag of cash and Butterfield for Clayton, especially with him only having one year left.
Have to agree with everyone else though, he's a good player and probably should play at a higher level...which makes you wonder why he'd want to go to Middlesborough?

No disrespect intended here either but Huddersfield are probably going to be looking at a relegation/lower mid table battle next season so its not really a sidewards step for the lad Would be very surprised if we arnt in the playoffs at the end of this season, we are throwing what money we have left at trying to get out of this awful league. just spent 3 million on a striker yesterday and it looks like were not finished yet.
To be fair we are pretty remote compared to other championship teams but were still close enough to the motorway/airports. once you get out of boro and the surrounding shitholes its a pretty good area to live in up here though.

That's more like it! I'm sure Judith Chalmers will be winging her way up there as we speak. £3m on a striker proves you are still swinging away...a bit like one of Mike Tyson's last fights, before he could no longer compete! I have no grudges against Boro - and you probably put us in the same category as the likes of Barnsley and Rotherham etc - bit that is simply not how it is. When Rhodes signed for Blackburn for £8m. Does that sound like we are a 'selling club' who needs cash? All I/we are saying is that your original post was very ambitious. But, maybe you are right? Just don't think so.

Great Ayton is nice. Clayton is a class footballer. I'm still hopeful of him signing a new deal. I dor think we'll be on a relegation scrap either. We weren't last year and we had major injuries and a weaker squad.

Awful league!? Are you having a fookin laugh!? It's the most competitive and exciting league in the UK. A league where 24th can beat the side clear at the top and it not be considered the biggest shock in 10 years of predictable results. As for Clayton, he's a footballer. Offer him more money than us and he will go.

Never said you were a selling club, its difficult to keep hold of your best players when the bigger clubs come in for them though, with clayton only having a year left on his contract and not looking like he is in a rush to resign then its understandable that you will probably end up selling him.
Its not always about the club needing cash, it surely makes more financial sense to sell a player with a year left and be able to replace him than letting his contract run down and not being able to bring in a replacement?
Not saying that we are a big club though, like many others we are probably just seen as an average championship club to other fans. I would say that we have as good of a chance at promotion this season as any other team in the league though minus fulham or norwich

Just remind me where Boro finished the last two seasons. You're virtually as shit as we are. However, if youre spending £3m on rubbish strikers out of the Segunda then maybe you'll be duped into paying over the odds for Clayton too? Ideal. Fwiw, Town make pointless signings from the Spanish lower leagues too, except we get them for free before they end up at Shrewsbury.

Above huddersfield I would guess?
pointless signing? lol, I guess your knowledge of football doesnt exist outside of huddersfiend town then?
Dont think we will pay over the odds when we could get him for free next season
Last 5 seasons have been pretty forgettable for boro tbh thats why were hopefully spending big this summer
