Who's mentioned 2.5 million? Think a few will be disappointed when he leaves for half of that

Can anyone name a midfielder as good as Clayton that you can buy for under £2m?
£2m is about right.
Clayton, with 3 years left on his contract is worth £4-5m

Clayton, with 3 years left on his contract is worth £4-5m Rubbish Clayton can collect the ball off the centre halves and string play together neatly in his own half. He isn't really a game changer though and that's where the big money is. Let's not forget how many poor games he's had in his time here and also while at Leeds. While I wouldn't want to lose him, he is far from irreplaceable. We picked him up for £300k, there's always players out there it's just a case of identifying them and taking a chance on the right one

Norwich and Forest want him. Middlesborough don't stand a chance unless they tie it up quickly. Brighton can't afford so are out of the running. All reports suggest that the asking price is going up with every inquiry. Norwich and Forest are desperate to go up. It doesn't matter how many years Clayton has on his contract. They need him now, they want success this year and aren't waiting. Middlesborough would stand no chance if he was a free transfer next summer.
In the end the transfer will be 3m plus, but like usual a fair bit tied up in add ons, appearances, promotion etc.

Boro have to wrap it up quick or else Norwich and forest will step in ? What ? Its not a game of hide n seek .. Brighton can't afford ? Cough ulloa cough 25k gates cough .. Reasonably reliable newsnetwork source suggests that Clayton is off. Town can't match wages offered elsewhere within ffp and wage structure and are resigned to selling him to the highest bidder. No bids accepted yet but forest and Norwich are closest to meeting 3.75 million valuation. Although they are both rumoured to be at around 2.25 at the moment. Why would Town need to "match wages" when he already has a contract that he has signed with Town?

What I'm missing is that Clayton is not a player who turns Brighton, or Boro, or Forest or Norwich from what they are into promotion contenders.
Why are they interested in him? And in fact, are they?

Three of the four aren't, if I had to make a guess. He's a decent first team player for most teams in this league, but it seems we've priced him out of a move. We can get him to sign a deal in the next six months or he plays well and gets a plum move next year. He's not marquee enough to sulk (or really of that temperament) so the club think he'll be instrumental enough to go a long way towards keeping us up, which is as always the minimum goal. The cash on offer is the key mover, I think.

Maybe he's a better player than many Town fans have given him credit for? He wouldn't be the first player to leave here and go on to better things.

How some folk on here still assert he was poor half of last season beggars our belief. Just shows how highly he's rated elsewhere.

By virtue of consistentyl rating at around 7/10 from November onwards he was our stand out player last season. If he was as good as some reckon, he'd have dragged the rest up by their bootstraps and we'd have finished mid-table safely. Instead we limped over the line. he's good, but not great. Plently more beards in the sea if he goes.

£1m + Majewski & Forest you have a deal! Watched him last night vs Millers. Some nice touches & creative passing. Links Mid/Attack well. Pringle seemed to be out muscled & closed down very quickly too.
