If Boro want to reach the playoffs then they will need to improve massively on last season! They may have just paid £3m on a striker but with the clout of the likes of Fulham, Norwich, Cardiff, Wigan, Brighton, Forest & to a lesser extent Bournemouth, Wolves & Watford they'll have a their work cut out to get anywhere near promotion imo.. Nothing against boro btw, just my opinion. Are you Italian?

I would assume that Boro pay higher wages than us so it might not just be a case of we'll have Butterfield off them, he could already be on more than we're prepared to offer Clayton.

pointless signing? lol, I guess your knowledge of football doesnt exist outside of huddersfiend town then? Unlike you smug smoggy I have actually seen Martinez play live, since I have property in Murcia. Any club who pays more than £750k for him is retarded, he is a player I guarantee in 12 months time you'll be wondering... "why". Enjoy. You're competing with little old Huddersfield, not Fulham. Get used to it! For similar reasons I also follow the fortunes of Real Murcia. Firstly - the fee was 2.5M EUR rather than 3M GBP Secondly - Kike had no desire to come to England: Getafe was his overwhelming preference, but they would not go any higher than 1.5M EUR. He's blown pretty hot and cold up until this season, and even then was anonymous in both legs of the play offs. If Clayton ends up at Boro next season it will be because they have paid double what he is worth as well.

It seems fairly common knowledge up here that he will probably come to boro at some point over the summer. Has he got family up that way?

He's probably about as good as Lukas Jutkiewicz is...how much is he worth?

With the second half of last season we are quietly confident we can reach them playoffs, will be tough though, alot of good teams in this league now Sounds like town last season but the opposite way round.. We started really well but after Xmas we picked up key injuries to Vaughan & Lynch which led to a massive dip in form, Nahki Wells was signed but it took him awhile to find his feet. Think you guys will finish above us this season, but not by many points.. Enjoy the season mate, but not against us of course!

If we don't get the right price he won't go
Simple as that, Deano won't be done over money wise, remember Gary Roberts?
Boro fans and their home support is even more fickle, whiney and get on the players backs than ours is so I hope Clayton knows what he is doing if he does jump ship
If he goes on a free next year, he won't pick Boro when he will have his choice of clubs

Great! Could we offer Patterson as a sort of free gift to accompany him, like in a box of cornflakes. Even better Stead and Paterson. If Paterson stays and gets game time I think he will have a better season than last season Yes I agree, I was being flippant. Perhaps Robins can turn Paterson around - I'd be cock-a-hoop if he could. I thinks Stead is different though - legs have gone.

So if Clayton was to go! ( I hope he doesn't) but let's just say he did. Who would you like to see come in and replace him! He played in a deeper role last year and if we get butterfield as part of the deal he will want to play further forward as he is more attacking than clayts!
Personally I would like to see somebody like Adam Forshaw or somebody with a bit of physical presence like guy moussi?

Sky reports say boro are ready to come in with 1-5 mill. is that 1 to 5 mill or 1.5 mill? Haha one and a half million. ..and to Herbert bust...no boro have bid a million which we turned down.

Looking at last season stats ,Boros average attendance was 16,156 which was not that much better than Towns so where is all this Boro spend spend spend money coming from if they are abiding by the fair play rules. Town chairman Dean Hoyle is a very clever businessman who puts the clubs well being before any kamikaze deals and surely any club trying to progress by breaking the fair play rules should be classed as cheats and dealt with accordingly by the football league.

Never said you were a selling club, its difficult to keep hold of your best players when the bigger clubs come in for them though, with clayton only having a year left on his contract and not looking like he is in a rush to resign then its understandable that you will probably end up selling him. Its not always about the club needing cash, it surely makes more financial sense to sell a player with a year left and be able to replace him than letting his contract run down and not being able to bring in a replacement? Not saying that we are a big club though, like many others we are probably just seen as an average championship club to other fans. I would say that we have as good of a chance at promotion this season as any other team in the league though minus fulham or norwich A perfectly sensible post. Our chairman will sell Clayton if he thinks he won't sign a new contract, he will however make sure he gets as much as he possibly can in the process.

Aye leave the Boro fan alone, Stockton Town fan here, and the lad came on with a perfectly sensible question and polite too. We're all allowed to think our ball is bigger / better than yours, and we're probably not going to convince him we're as big as the Boro, even though I agree that we are. I too remember those Ayrseome Park days, even in 66 when we were drubbing them 6-0 and 3-0 if I remember correctly. I'll just point out Boro fan in case you haven't worked it out, we get just as many "nobheads" on here as you do on OneBoro.

Think he would rather he signed a new contract though, so would i. yes it would indeed, but think it is probably a bit on the unrealistic side. in more real terms, would guess that 1.8 - 2m is more realistic WITHOUT butterfield. WITH butterfield anything over 1m would be a very reasonable deal for the club. just imo of course.

No disrespect intended here either but Huddersfield are probably going to be looking at a relegation/lower mid table battle next season so its not really a sidewards step for the lad Would be very surprised if we arnt in the playoffs at the end of this season, we are throwing what money we have left at trying to get out of this awful league. just spent 3 million on a striker yesterday and it looks like were not finished yet. To be fair we are pretty remote compared to other championship teams but were still close enough to the motorway/airports. once you get out of boro and the surrounding shitholes its a pretty good area to live in up here though. If you think the championship is an awful league then just wait till you're in league one next season

I'm resigned to losing Clayton now. I'm his biggest fan, but we've simply got to cash in on him if he's not going to sign. How good is this Butterfield, anyone? No point taking anyone who is sub-standard... we've got enough of those.

Really hope he stays but looks like he's going if we can get £1.5-2m that wouldn't be a bad deal.Trouble is I just don't trust Robins to be able to bring in anyone who's at least as good never mind better.

I cannot understand how it might be nailed on that if he leaves it is likely to be cash and a player. 1 is it has to be a player who we want and is good enough but 2 he has to agree personal terms with us. Whilst I do not know what Butterfield is on at Boro but are we likely to match that
