Just got back from the game and thought I'd write a quick review of the game. Towns team consisted of Tommy Smith, Joe Lynch and Norwood being the regular starters with a couple of fringe players in Duane Holmes and Martin Paterson, with the rest of the squad being made up by u21 players and the bench mainly u18's and Jon Stead. Town controlled the game from start to finish knocking it about fairly well and creating some really good chances, finished 4-1 but could of easily been 6 or 7. Guiseley's best player in my opinion was there Sub number sixteen, Oli Johnson I believe correct me if I'm wrong.
Few noticeable performances from me:
Holmes: MOM for me stood out like a sore thumb, controlled the tempo of the game, scored a cheeky goal and played well throughout the game, showed what he is Capable of,
Bunn: first time I've got to watch this lad, he impressed me, quick, strong and had an eye for goal and took his chance well.
Billing: good performance from him, looks a bit thin and skinny but played some lovely passes and looked confident when getting the ball and moving forward.
Paterson: despite missing two sitters he played well, looked lively and had some banter with the fans, looked willing for the ball at every chance he got.
Crooks: never noticed how big this lad was, seems to have filled out as well got some muscle about him. Defended well when needed and pushed forward when given the chance.
Tronstad and Charles: only saw a brief performance from these two, Charles had a good touch and took his goal excellently and Tronstad kept it simple and retained the ball well multiple times.
All in all a good another good pre season win, it's good to see us actually scoring a few goals in pre season for a change long May it continue with the other friendlies.

Nice report Lewis. I have high hopes for Holmsey.

Thanks for the report (Not sure how it will go down with some posters as there is no negativity in it)!

I never used to take any notice of pre-season friendly matches, in fact I always thought win, lose or draw, it's when the season starts that really matters. How wrong I was, the last friendly I attended was at Lancaster City in July 2002 and we lost 4-0 and was complete embarrassment which could have been even worse to be fair. That pre-season was at the start of ill-fated Mick Wadsworth's management 2002/3. As you will no doubt recall we were relegated to the forth tier in the following May, playing some of the worse football I've ever witnessed a Town team play. I vowed that day to never attend a pre-season friendly again and I haven't. Churlish I know!

I have to agree with the OP with their match report. I was a little disappointed with the amount of first team players as it was billed as a first team friendly but it was nice to see some of the lads on the fringes. I have to say my opinion of Pato has vastly increased after yesterday the lad never stopped running, he was constantly talking to and encouraging the younger lads, and the banter he was having with the fans was first class. I would like us to bring in a new striker someone who is going to improve us say a Chris Wood but if it is going to be some 32 year old jurney man well let's save our money and give Pato a go.

IIRC we also shipped 10 goals in 2 games before the 1999-2000 season which up until February 2000 was the best I've ever witnessed. (After February things did dip somewhat, but I think there were other factors more important than our pre-season losses in that slump)

Not too worried about Billing being of slight frame. He's only just turned 18, plenty of time to fill out. We could have a gem on our hands. I recall Crooks being labelled as our next hope at one stage. Hopefully he'll pick up a bit more. Does Bunn look like he could make much of an impact alongside Wells or Vaughan? How did Sinnott play?

To be honest, I thought we were crap in the first half, and it was Guiseley who played all the football, without really troubling our goal. Played much better in 2nd half and scored some well worked goals.

Anyone know whats happened to Daniel Carr? I would have expected him to be involved last night. I know he was on the score sheet against Mansfield.

I had a browse around but didn't see him mentioned or in any of the examiner photo's (not that I saw anyway).

Bunn looked lively it's hard to say whether or not he'll have an impact but he isn't afraid to have a go, looked paced and took his goal well. Nearly scored a nice curler as well. Looks a talent. Sinnott played the wing back role for most of the game, not his natural position as it showed a few times. He got forward well and created some good crossing chances and nearly scored at the back post in the first half after getting behind the defence, not an excellent performance but he played well being out of his favoured centred position.

Am I right in thinking that Crooks has been converted to a centre-back? Could we see him pushing for a first team spot next season?

Am I right in thinking that Crooks has been converted to a centre-back? Could we see him pushing for a first team spot next season? Yeah he has. Must admit I didn't see him have a good game in midfield so I couldn't understand the hype about him. Looks much better to me at the back. I wouldn't be surprised to see him going a bit lower on loan to learn.

Crooks looked very confident on the ball (happy to take it from the back and drive forward - he set up Charles' goal from the edge of the box) and has certainly filled out a lot since last year. Not sure how he is defensively as he wasn't really tested during the game, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him make a few appearances this year, especially if we play with 3 CBs.

Thought the lad who played left back looked very promising last night. No idea who he was (I thought it was Peltier to start off with) but he put in some good tackles and won some brave headers.
