I wonder if the reason that we have been practically dormant in the transfer market is because this is seen as the year that some of our highly rated youth players make the step up!
We all know about the pathways ethos and with so many youngsters performing so well for the academy/u21's maybe the reason we aren't signing anyone is to ensure these players get plenty of game time.
Maybe it's not the reason but I'm pretty sure a lot of these players are now at the age that they NEED to be given an opportunity... Otherwise what is the point of having them in the first place!

We do have 36 professionals in the squad, a large number of that recent academy graduates of the last year or so, so you might be right.

That's what I was thinking, although it also makes me think it was a bit stupid for Robins/Dean/The Board to suggest "3 Quality Signings" and put a number on it as that then gives people a clear number to look at, which they expect to be met, and when it isn't they (understandably) start to moan.
In defence we've signed Murphy to push Smithies, and Peltier to cover a number of positions and replace Woods & Clarke, we're clearly looking for another CB, and we have Smith and Carroll as the younger guys alongside Lynch and Gerrard.
In midfield we're a bit lightweight as some have suggested. Clayton, Norwood and Hogg are challenged by possibly our most exciting prospect in Holmes. However, that still makes us lightweight and that's why people are calling for someone a bit different. But what if the intention is to use Billing and Crooks? They're basically trees, so that'll make up for the lack of strength/height of the others.
In attack it'll be difficult to bring someone in who's happy to sit on the bench, because there's no chance they'll get a start over Vaughan & Wells. Then there's Pato and Bunn/Charles who are highly rated.
I'm not sure how I feel about our activity right now, and it isn't too clear what the club are doing either. I think they're trying to bring in a bit of experience (especially in midfield) for the short term so that the youth can be brought in over this coming season, that's why Andrews/Henderson apparently only got offered 1 year.
Alternatively, maybe Dean's really putting pressure on Robins to perform, and he's waiting to see what happens in the first few games. Or maybe Dean just doesn't want to spend money, or he could be leaving the majority of our action to be done in January like last season.

I don't think so. We just cannot attract anyone of worth for the right money and also our last couple of seasons have not been encouraging.

I think this years tactic is to get the whole squad fitter and more motivated than they were last year and to score more goals than the opposition. If I am right, and it is just a gut feeling, it should be a lot more enjoyable than last season, given the awful second half we sat through. If we do not start blooding younger players who have proved themselves in the under 21 squad last year, and just keep buying in more journeymen, then it makes a mockery of everything the club is saying about how it wants to move forward. The only way they can get experience is to play.

We have to trust the pathways policy that's been put in place. I honestly think we will see the fruits of this policy this season and surprise a few people. The players are a year older with greater experience and Lolley, Holmes, Billing, Bunn, Smith and co will give us the best season we've seen for many years.

On the strength of our progress these last two seasons I have placed £20 for us to drop. I hope I dont collect but I am not feeling good about the season.
