Apologies if this has already been posted but just seen that Town are to open a town centre shop in the Pack Horse Centre in August. It will stock same range of merchandise as Stadium Store.

Well that will have a lot of people walking past who wont be customers...what a bizarre decision. Unless Town are thinking of capitalising on the preciously untapped "old grandmas and greying felt tracky clad young mums" market.

I'm not sure they're hoping people stroll past and suddenly decide to pop in and buy a town shirt! Probably more to cater for town fans who find it easier to get into town than they do drive down to the stadium. Seems like a good idea to me. I remember sugg sports being in there back in the day, card factory in there so i guess Dean is familiar with it as a retail outlet. Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards

If they opened one on Oxford Street the gear wouldn't fly off the shelves. It's only gonna be used by Town fans, who will presumably know where the shop is and go there specifically because it'll be more convenient than the ground.

Good move IMO as myself and Mrs H. often go through PHC. and now I,m officially a senior citizen I use my free bus pass to the maximum and so it will save me a journey to the Stadium.

I was in Town for the first time in ages recently to watch the town centre cycle race, and the Pack Horse is a hotch potch of what should bemarket stall businesses, despite the obvious money that has been spent on keeping the place look as nice as it can do. I don't buy Town clobber other than an occasional shirt for a kid, but if I did I'd go down to the stadium where its free to park. Lets hope this new shop can sell match tickets also, as theres lots of people out there for whom getting down to the ground is less convenient and who aren't part of the online generation.

i like the idea of not having to leg it down to the stadium from't town center.
will this be Town exclusive? Are they going to just do merchandise or will there be other things going on?

True, maybe the location doesnt matter so much. However, less than a year ago, Sean Jarvis said, "“In recent years, our retail operation has gone from strength to strength, thanks largely in a growth in internet-based sales. With increased sales in the Stadium Superstore and online via htafcmegastore.com, we have decided to cease having a town centre store with staff moving to the Stadium Superstore”. Sounds like he must have changed his mind then?

Good plan. Will get people calling in for gifts, these people wouldn't go down to the ground necessarily but might have a look.
The pack horse is also planning a huge regeneration and new look

Apart from the occasional replica shit... I'm as bamboozled as arterrier by the concept of "leisurewear" .. But the pack horse is near where I work so maybe ill pop in and buy some blue n white mittens or a lifesize replica of the original terry the terrier (RIP)

I hadn't realised that they are now so desperate to offload members of the squad that they're going to display them in a shop window!
"No, madam, this is not a mannequin, it's the real Jon Stead. OK, I know it's hard to tell the difference, but....oh, and 5,000 Nectar points if you purchase him today!!!"

24,000 students at Huddersfield university Judging from anytime I drive near any of the university buildings a Town shop will do a roaring trade if they start selling merchandise of clubs from the far east. Firth Street on an evening's like downtown Shanghai Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards

Good idea on towns part. Passing trade will happen as everyone's got family who don't watch town but know that there Grand children, sons, daughters, aunties, uncles etc etc do and could buy them a town gift as it's easier to get to the Packhorse rather than the Town ground. Would be good to put the giants stuff in there again too and share the costs of the shop.

Folk are going on like it's a brand new venture.
Don't want to be a Billy Negative Bollocks here but we've had two shops I know of before and they both failed, Cloth Hall St and Queen St if memory and geography serve me right.

It's 0.8 miles on foot from the staidum - is it really that likely that they'll be getting trade they rpeviously missed out on? you don't spend £40 on a shirt on impulse. I'm not one to automatically knock new ideas, but this seems daft, especially when the last incarnation failed, despite having arguably a better location.
Assuming the rent won't be hugely cheap, perhaps the expected losses explain why we failed to outbid Real for Hammes Rodriguez....

I think it's good they are trying the idea out, from what I've seen of Huddersfield when dragged away from the pub it's full of Pound shops, charity shops and Greggs

If anyone in Huddersfield has a clue about running a successful retail outlet, it's Dean Hoyle. Seems as though Town wanted out of the previous shared arrangement but not of the Town centre. Based on his previous business model, 5 shirts for £1 it is! Spot on. Selling low cost low margin high volume paper products is a world away from trying to sell a shirt for £40. Card Factory made its money through scale, with products that people want to buy every day everywhere. A Town retail venture simply cant follow that model.
