16 days left and still no notable signings - I'm getting worried as we haven't strengthend the squad from last year.
Anyone else feel the same?

I must admit, I am getting a little concerned. It was weeks ago that Dean said the club had met about 17 players, and they hoped to get a few things sorted out early. I am happy with the Murphy and Peltier signings, but I thought we might have nailed another couple of signings by now.

We may pull off a Harry Redknapp style deadline day signing for a change.

No not me, as I treat it for what it actually is these days. It's just a game, supposedly for entertainment purposes, so to me it's not really worth adding an extra stressor to my life over something so trivial

I expect another centre back (massive clue we’re looking for one is that we trialled a Swedish international centre back last week!) but after that it will depend on how preseason has gone and who we can move on (Stead, Pato, Gobern) or if Clayton or Hammill leaves before we can spend
Assuming we get a centre back (to replace Peter Clarke) along with Peltier and Murphy then no way is the squad weaker. Unless someone can argue Woods is better than Peltier, Bennett better than Murphy or that we’ll miss Robinson, Atkinson, Lopez or Southern
I think it’s sensible for Robins to have an assessment of the younger players in early pre-season; Bunn, Sinnott, Caroll, Carr, Crooks, Wallace, Lolley are all 20 and above so need to break though into the regular matchday 16 this year
Then there’s the teenagers Billing, Tronstad, Holmes and Charles who should be starting to make the odd cameo (or more for Holmes)
What message would it send if we signed say 5 players ahead of these without taking a look
Even if MR feels just one of these 11 young players I’ve listed are ready then we could save a fortune. Ideally in 12 months time we’ll be talking about two or three having pushed on into the first team proper, i.e. did anyone predict Tommy Smith this time last year?
If they look off the pace I'd be inclined to get a loanee in for six months to give them time to mature. If they still look off the pace I'd be questioning the scouts who recommended Carr, Lolley, Carroll, Tronstad (all coming with fees) and the coaches for not developing what at reserve and youth level sound like a good batch

I'm not worried. I think it's slowly dawning on everyone that we can't / won't pay the wages of the players we've been after. I'd sooner see us throw the likes of Lolley / Billing / Holmes in to the team than sign more over the hill journeymen who we will on past form be looking to give away in 6 months time. If we are going to struggle (which I think we will) sooner it be with some home grown youth.
The club should have never made a statement about signing 2 or 3 proven quality Championship players, people were only then going to be disappointed with either the quality of them or the fact we didn't sign them at all. I'm sure if you asked 99% of people on here to make a list of proven Championship players that we could realistically sign it wouldn't have included Peltier or Murphy.
We are relying on the improbability of our squad staying virtually injury / suspension free and a couple of the young lads having a big impact. Lets just hope that we don't lose Clayton and or Hamill on the eve of the season as it could see us right up the creek.

Yeah just like we did when JR was sold, and then we pissed about getting Beckford and had to wait for loan window to re-open. Clayton will go late in the window, when demand and prices are highest, but town been town, we wont be prepared to pay over the odds so we wont replace him, rather we will get a short term loan in, which in general is a huge lottery.

Honestly believe we will get two more should we not move the likes of Pato, Scannell and Gobern on. Those being a CB and CM.

still not received any season ticket mail. Anyone else? My new season card arrived today in a nice little plastic wallet again, just like last year. The fixture lists have gone up-market though as it's now a fiddly concertina-style thingy. Any old folks on here who are used to grappling with old road-maps will be quite at home with them though ...

I thought that it was stated that unless you were moving seats than they were simply updating your existing card, is that not the case?

My money is on us leaving it until the last week to recruit a player, only to find that the club have inflated said player's price due to the minimal time they have to find a replacement.

Not basing this on any facts just my opinion but I think we are just failing to attract people. It's all well and good having a lovely training ground, nice atmosphere etc etc but at the end of the day football is a very short career and players will go where the money is, players most likely would like to come here because we are well run but money talks and we obviously can't compete with most teams in the league.

Enough people have said the same thing every hour for the last few weeks, some a number of times, squeezing it into any topic, so you can assume you're not on your own.

I hope the same thing does not happen with Clayton. It would be nice if Hoyle said "You know our price, it has to happen by xx/xx/xx or it does not happen this window. I do not know how realistic that would be though in a case like Clayton. Seems to me if he stayed until January we would get less for him so the club will sell if they get the right offer regardless of timing.

I would love to see Clayton staying however I think we will cash in before he sees the last year of his contract out. That said we will be weaker than last year so unless new players do come in we need to rely on the likes of Lolley etc to make the grade and Vaughn to stay fit. The Championship will be stronger this year with no really weak teams coming down and up. Our new coaching staff can make a great difference as clearly both our stamina and tactics can improve from last year.

I genuinely don't get why some Town fans think we are going to be ok, after Christmas it was shite, the performances were poor, the tactics questionable and we had a manager who is happy for us to stroll around the pitch playing pointless passes. We haven't really added to the squad, Murphy is just cover for Smithies, so if we were crap last season and we have practically the same squad, what makes everyone think this season is going to be anything but a struggle?
If we escape injuries, suspensions and loss of form, then we have a good chance of making a decent showing and a creditable mid table finish, but the chance of that happening are slim.

Yes, I am getting a little edgy as I think the good players will have got fixed up. Or are we going to use the loan system to strengthen the team without splashing any cash but wages? What do you think guys?

So we've trialled a couple of players and these players trials have been unsuccessful. I like to see this, I like to see the club turning round and saying that these players aren't good enough to play for Huddersfield Town. Still plenty of time left in the transfer window. But I'd rather us not sign anyone than sign some muppet.
