Yeah just like we did when JR was sold, and then we pissed about getting Beckford and had to wait for loan window to re-open. Clayton will go late in the window, when demand and prices are highest, but town been town, we wont be prepared to pay over the odds so we wont replace him, rather we will get a short term loan in, which in general is a huge lottery. dude. If you work in some kind of journalism, learn the differenc between been and being. Even still, with the squad that we have we'll do alright until January. Analyse and sign in January

I'm confident they'll be atleased a couple of new signings before the start of the season, whether that be permanent or loan.. I can see why fans might be getting slightly impatient but they need to understand we have afew good earners on the transfer list at the moment that we need to move on to free up some of the wage budget, working within the FFP we can't simply bring in players on big money then hope we ship the deadwood before the window closes, we need to be prudent & patient.. Getting these players off the wage bill will make a big difference to the quality of player we can bring in.. Dean Hoyle knows what he's doing.

I was worried for a bit, then I realised no matter what I'll still go to games and have a laugh with the NSL, then I stopped giving a shit about who we sign.

If we make a signing that doesn't possess the amount of quality that Lolley, Holmes, Bunn, Charles has then I'm not interested

It's ok making signings if they make an improvement on what we have got. If not save our brass till one comes along. Part of the long term strategy is to bring the kids through & perhaps next season is when we will see a group come through. Duane & Tommy have given us a taste of what's to come from our development squad.

I expect another centre back (massive clue we’re looking for one is that we trialled a Swedish international centre back last week!) but after that it will depend on how preseason has gone and who we can move on (Stead, Pato, Gobern) or if Clayton or Hammill leaves before we can spend Assuming we get a centre back (to replace Peter Clarke) along with Peltier and Murphy then no way is the squad weaker. Unless someone can argue Woods is better than Peltier, Bennett better than Murphy or that we’ll miss Robinson, Atkinson, Lopez or Southern I think it’s sensible for Robins to have an assessment of the younger players in early pre-season; Bunn, Sinnott, Caroll, Carr, Crooks, Wallace, Lolley are all 20 and above so need to break though into the regular matchday 16 this year Then there’s the teenagers Billing, Tronstad, Holmes and Charles who should be starting to make the odd cameo (or more for Holmes) What message would it send if we signed say 5 players ahead of these without taking a look Even if MR feels just one of these 11 young players I’ve listed are ready then we could save a fortune. Ideally in 12 months time we’ll be talking about two or three having pushed on into the first team proper, i.e. did anyone predict Tommy Smith this time last year? If they look off the pace I'd be inclined to get a loanee in for six months to give them time to mature. If they still look off the pace I'd be questioning the scouts who recommended Carr, Lolley, Carroll, Tronstad (all coming with fees) and the coaches for not developing what at reserve and youth level sound like a good batch Here here well said that man

I'm worried. Our squad is simply not good enough. I fear relegation if we don't strengthen.
There will be plenty of Blackpool away type performances if we don't strengthen.

Honestly I'm not in the least bit bothered about our lack of signings. As far as I am concerned our best bit of business was replacing some of the backroom staff. The people who were in charge of our brilliant under 18 and under 21 squads have in the main been deservedly promoted and the new assistant manager has decent credentials as well. All the squads train at PPL Canalside and there seems to be great camaraderie between the players, even Paterson. I remember once that a club recruited a complete new staff of free transfers for the next season and finished up winning the league with no losses, (I think). Clearly we want decent players but don't underestimate the effect that a good backroom staff can have. Anyway we've all seen supposedly quality signings turn out to be huge disappointments. Save your money Mr. Hoyle unless a genuine quality player is available for a bargain price. I prefer to see home grown players make it anyway and we seem to have quite a number of very promising prospects. If young lads see that they have a chance of making the first team at Town then it will do our recruitment no harm at all. We have had a good set of friendly results so far and I can't wait for the Bournemouth game. UTT. PS. I might change my mind by the end of August though.

Lack abit of midfield creativity, but could lolley and Holmes offer that this year. Billing can cover any of hogg, Norwood and Clayton.
I'd rather sink with the kids than sign just average players. Anyone coming in needs to be better than the player currently in the first xi or there is no point bringing them in.

We seem to have lots of maybe players, Norwood lolley ward holmes etc, players who have shown ability, maybe inconsistently but are at an age where they need to e performing well regularly. Either we can trust them to kick on or we spend money on players we know will be okay and do a job, thus limiting the amount of first team games for the younger players, bit of a gamble either way

What are you basing that assumption on LD? Just a hunch Mel. The way we capitulated last season was disgraceful at times. We needed to buy leaders and creativity and a captain who can motivate on the pitch. We have yet to do any of this. I hope Dean and Robins will surprise us with at least 3 signings to fit this bill. Sort the spine and we will be fine One centre back One creative midfielder One striker

I understand the concern but it might be that we already have those players in development squad ready to step up. None of us really know what the club is thinking or have planned, and at the end of the day we can't really do anything other than support the team we have. I'll trust Dean to make sure the club does well, he's a fan and spent a fortune getting us up, I don't think he's going to sit back and let us go down without a fight.

I agree, we need a captain on the pitch but I doubt we'll see at least 3 signings. We already have the players in the squad to be comfortable, looking at it objectively who would lose their place out of proposed starting 11, and how much would it cost us to bring in a player of recognised quality and ability that would exceed what we currently have available. We need some defensive cover. We've plenty of midfield options, especially with the lads coming through from the academy, and we've got a bag full of strikers. And we still need to trim our costs.

If there are gaps where youngsters aren't ready yet then fill the position with a loan player.

I'm all for giving the kids a chance as we have talent waiting in the wings
But we were not anything great in the second half of last season and lots of disenchantment on here after most games
What's changed unless he does blood the new lads? We need a few signings IMO as my concern is we are pinning our hopes on Holmes Charles billing etc and that's unfair on them as they are unproven and will get panned if they don't deliver

There is still time BUT its hardly encouraging when we were promised three QUALITY signings. IMO the majority of the quality players on frees have gone to quality clubs whats left is the journeymen and the ones you gamble on. Our squad is full of those already. So for me as much as i am disappointed on the transfer activity its either bring in quality or don't bother. What will really annoy me is if one of our better players leaves with the season under way and we go for a loan option replacement.

Save any funds for the next manager to spend in January.
We've replaced the entire support team, the club executive seemed to think we under-performed last season, so if largely the same players still under perform under a new, carefully selected coaching support team, then either...
a) We're not very good at selecting people in key roles, which would be a bit of a worry moving forwards (and bear in mind most commentators on here seem to rate those who have been brought in / promoted this summer, I don't think I've read a single dissenting post on any of the appointments, which is unusual, so the likelihood is that we aren't going to get much better decision making in that department)
b) The constant needs changing. Mark Robins.
c) We didn't under perform after all.

If we don't get a quality CB for this level in again i think we'll really struggle, i still think we need 2.
Its ok saying our squad isnt much weaker thanl ast season but the rest of the divison excluding Blackpool has moved on, it will be the toughest its been since we got back to it too.
It wasn't just a lack of motivation since Xmas, teams came and stopped us playing the "Huddersfield Way". We'd simply been sussed out and if don't adapt we'll make it even harder for ourselves. I also dont think our manager has what it takes to get a team to walk through walls for him in fact i don't envisage Robins being here come end of October.

If we are to go down the route of using youth it begs the question why weren't more of the blooded last season when the whole club from top to bottom thought we had pretty much nowt to play for the last third of last season ? Also we've had statements from the club about knowing that it was the lack of a couple of decent players with good championship experience that cost us last year.
Maybe it will work and someone like Billing or Holmes will turn out to be a revelation, alternatively it could be a disaster if we don't get off to a decent start as that's been the thing that has saved us for the last two seasons. A poor start could see Robins gone inside 10 games IMO.

Blooding youth on mass is a risky strategy, it could go either way, either they'll end up ruined or they'll be a revelation and we were all worrying unecessarily.

I know the board stated they were after 3 quality signings but that's hardly a 'promise' is it? If our targets signed for more money elsewhere than we thought they were worth then surely that is the right policy. I really don't get all the doom and gloom, the club spent big on strikers last season with Wells and Vaughan, we didn't have a good second half but considering some injuries and the club's decision to leave us with just Vaughan and Wells as recognised strikers feeling we were already safe was the main reason for that IMO. At Christmas last year this place was on a high and play off talk was rife many stating that we just needed another striker and we broke our transfer record to get one. It took Nahki a little time to get adjusted and moreso given he was the lone striker after Vaughan's injury. I want to see how our fully fit squad is firing at the start of the season. Most on here want a striker given Vaughan's injury record but this striker will likely be on the bench to start the season, why not await what many think will be the inevitable and get a loan striker in if/when Vaughan is injured. Vaughan will start if fit and therefore IMO we only need a striker when he isn't which will be temporary so that fits the loan market perfectly.

There's a lot more teams worse off than us, the league seems to have really taken another step to being divided by the parachute payments.
Of those who have made signings:
Rotherham - Signed a lot of average players, and given they did most of it within two weeks of promotion you'd have to assume they were a soft touch on negotiations
Leeds - sold their goalscorer and filled the team with Italians with no experience of this league
Blackpool - Will have to make signings, but will be scrapping for makeshifts
Birmingham - Lee Clark special, average signings soon to be replaced by panic loans
Bournemouth - sold goalscorer and paid over the odds for Wilson as an untested replacement. Would rather have Wells and he cost less than half.
Millwall - Hope Gregory does well but it's a lot of money for someone of his age and proven level, if he was four years younger I think we'd have taken him
Brentford - Wish we'd taken Hogan but again looks like they paid over the odds, and possibly wasn't right for our situation. Gutted they got Pritchard though
We look set for another year of development, but at least we're going somewhere positive unlike some of the desperate teams around us just tredding water with no long term plan

My main gripe is that there is no PR coming from Town, what happened to the supposed Matthew Briggs? Did he fail his medical? By all accounts he was looking forward to travelling to Portugal with his new teammates. Im not suggesting we go into the fine details of finances or things like that but its all so quiet from the club and this worries me. Maybe a previous poster was right in saying we cant attract the players we want as we cant compete financially. Also on a slight side note there has been no mention of who is captain for the next season. Maybe this hinges on whether Clayton will be here or could it be that we haven't signed our captain yet?
