(or rather my mate did who doesn't post)
Said we were more or less exactly the same as last season when Vaughan was out - only Wells looked as though he'd score - no-one else - midfield absolutely no forward drive or energy - and vulnerable to pace at the back. He's not one for knee-jerk reactions but said that he can't see where goals are going to come from (Lolley hit the woodwork but it was a cross) - Hamill had a chance at the end but took an extra touch - as ever - and though both teams looked weak, Scunthorpe had the better chances. He's normally a positive bloke, and I reminded him it was only a friendly, but he said we were awful.

Sums up Robins for me. He gives a player licence to float behind the strikers and instead of using the one player who is perfectly suited to that role (Holmes), he shoves a winger there.
I hope it was just something he was trying out and will now stop pissing around

Sack him boring defending, no forward play, so much for changing the coaching staff, another poor season coming up

Don't usually bother with preseason friendlies but went along today. With 2 weeks to go to the season opener I was hoping to see some semblance of a starting 11 and other players busting a gut to force themselves into the reckoning. Instead I got a performance very much like Doncaster away last season. It was blisteringly hot but conditions were same for both teams. Robins says Scunthorpe were "excellent" - they were very average and we were woeful. Very worrying I'm afraid. Need 2-3 quality signings in very quickly or we are in big trouble.

I hope it was just something he was trying out and will now stop pissing around I said a few times when we signed Lolley that he might have been bought with half a mind to playing him either behind the strikers or off a lone striker. It's a position we've desperately needed someone in for aeons (and we'll need another for cover/competition even if Holmes really steps up) so it does make sense to me to get an idea of how he could perform there before blowing a load of cash on a new signing we might end up not needing. Ideally he should've had some time playing there last season rather than just trying it out now but since we took so long to actually get to safety the opportunity to give experience to the younger players ended up being wasted.

Robins never moved once today just stood leaning on the dug out and never showed any emotion looked uninterested to me and Clayton looked off the pace if they play like that this season we are doomed

I'm not worried by the result or performance. It's what happens starting the 9th August that counts. I've seen so many teams over the years have nothing but defeats in the warm ups than come out flying when it starts properly. In Mark We Trust.

When we win friendlies they're pointless games, when we lose one its slitting wrists time. They mean fuck all

I expect some statto will show its wrong but I've always felt we have a better season after a poor pre-season than vice versa.
Interesting comments from Robins on the website in that we are only after signing fist 11 starters rather than squad players. We still need to have someone to play alongside Wells when Vaughan is crocked - just didn't expect to need him in pre-season!

Exactly right. Win or lose, friendlies are unimportant and should be used for testing.

It's clear to me that Robins is not a fan of Holmes and I don't think it'll be long before he's out on loan again No idea, maybe he's trying to get some confidence into the lad and get his fitness up looking after him by playing him against a team that is less likely to be as physically robust as Scunny. Holmes does seem to get good reports against lesser opposition (like Radcliffe Borough), MAYBE he's not really up to Championship football yet (he certainly didnt look up to it last season). Or maybe Holmes will get the 70 mins against Sheff Utd on Tuesday so it was just Lolleys turn today?? None of it really matters at this stage, its just getting a bit of fitness up.

Not reading too much into friendlies, but I think we definitely need another striker. Can't expect Vaughan to have a long season.

Today we played the majority of the starting 11 that will start against Bournemouth, how can people say the performance doesn't matter, surely 2 weeks before the season the team should now be able to play together as a team against a team a league below us

DATM all time low when 1-0 away loss to newly promoted side in friendly has all the 'we are all doomed' brigade out in droves. It just takes one post and it's like a hand grenade going off. God help us if we lose the first game of the season. Get a grip.

I'd rather have supporters say it as it is. If we were shit we were shit. Much rather have the truth than taking the word of Robins dressing up a poor performance, you're just conning yourself for a big fall that way.

Given that we are playing Bournemouth and you'd expect to have that down as a game your looking to win, not sure I get your comment? Bournemouth had a decent season last time out and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to build on last seasons impressive finish but I'd still say it's a game we should be looking to win, it's at home. The following two league games are away at Cardiff and Reading where I'd expect us to get 0 points.

I live in Lincolnshire and have done since I left Huddersfield in 1971 so I have been trekking to Huddersfield as a season ticket holder during the season for some considerable time now. So I thought I would pop along today only 20 minutes from home to see how Town were progressing pre-season after the dross we were subjected to from Christmas onwards last season....
Based on today's performance, despite the new coaching team, it was not good to watch. A mixture of tippy - tappy square passes at a slow pace mingled in and amongst with high punts forward to Mr Wells,, not the biggest person on the pitch whilst as someone else said Mr Robins was stood Wadsworthesque leaning against the dugout with virtually no encouragement (maybe we need an encouragement coach?)
At the moment after all those years, my season ticket money is still in my pocket, less than convinced Robins is the "man" to take us forward on the basis of what I saw today. I will probably pay on the day for 3 or 4 games at the start of the season and re-assess whether I listen to Oggy or put my hand in my pocket for the 50th season.
It's bloody hard after all this time to turn my back on them, but unfortunately I've never been so close......

What should worry most fans is the fact 10 players that started today where learning Robins systems 12 months ago and still appear to have a problem getting it right! No one is going over board just because we lost today, it is more the fact we still have the same failings as we had 12 months ago with a squad that in many fans opinion is weaker than this time last year. Yes it is only ore season, but if this trend continues into the real thing then we could be in big trouble especially if we get a few key players injured.

I still find it odd how people are looking to turn their back on Town now.
I'm not suggesting things are brilliant or questioning their right to do what they want, but why now?
Things have been far worse on and off the field for the vast majority of at least the last 30 odd years.
Could here and presumably Twitter be contributing this, as people are worn down by the incessant negativity? In the past it would be a quick conversation after the game and we'd move on, not debating it for the remainder of the week and picking holes in every interview, etc.
NB- I realise if Town played well, we wouldn't see the same level of negativity, most people are pretty reasonable!
