Can anyone remember an exodus quite like it? An exodus of Bob Marley proportions.
Lallana, Lovren and Lambert to Liverpool.
Chambers to Arsenal.
Shaw to Man Utd.
Pocchettino gone to Spurs with Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez rumoured to be close to following him.
That's one hell of a drain of talent, any of you betting dudes got a cheeky tenner on them going down?

Near enough £100m there though.
Its mad what's going on but they should be OK with that cash to spend. (As long as it's available to spend that is)

The Leeds team after O Leary went losing Ferdinand, woodgate, viduka, kewell, smith et al. Then again more recently their league one promotion squad, when they lost Snodgrass, howson, Johnson, gradel, Beckford, Becchio.
Certainly not in Bob territory but plundered none the less.

(As long as it's available to spend that is) I think Spurs showed that having the cash to spend on players is only half the battle. The club have to spend it wisely, that's if they're willing to spend it. Then you have all the potential hassle of bedding in players.

ie I'm sure they'd rather have Bale than all the players they blew the Bale money on.

On another thread I mentioned that Town will finish higher than Southampton season after next :-)
PS ... and it wasn't the "Positive" thread.

Southampton will bounce back. They churn quality youth players out like they're going out of a fashion. Manager isn't too bad either.

I think they'll struggle this season, especially if as seems likely Rodriguez and Schneiderlin go as well. Koeman seems to have a decent record but he's managed top teams in the countries he's been at, this isn't the case with Southampton (certainly now they've sold/selling all their best players) so for him to adapt to that plus a new country plus having to put together the majority of a team just weeks before the season starts is going to make things very difficult in my opinion.

all they need now is the managerial genious that is edgar davids to join koeman. Mind you if they get relegated they could blow a fair bit of that money trying to get back up - as well as parachute payments.

They will be fine. There'll be three worse teams this season than them
Koeman did excellently bringing on youngsters at Feyenoord (a lot where in the Dutch WC squad)
They'll also have a massive transfer war chest
Soton also still have cracking youngsters like Gallagher, Ward Prose and expect Targett, Reed and McQueen to make names for themselves this season. If they do it will be good news for England as well

Their academy is simply fantastic......and their kids mostly seem to kick on when they are exposed to the first team early - bale, oxlade chamberlain, walcott, chambers, shaw, lallana, ward prowse. Shame the owner now seems to want to cash in by flogging the whole lot -125m+ if schneiderlin and rodriguez exit too!!!!! It might be a bit of luck a la man utd with a generation coming thru all at once but wouldnt it be fabulous if we could partially replicate it this time with billing, charles, holmes etc coming through into our first team and excelling?!

You have to play them for that to happen. Southampton play theirs from 16 years old

Everything good about what Southampton built from L1 onwards came from Nicola Cortese. When the owner died his daughter took over & she doesn't care at all - Cortese soon left, Pochettino followed as a direct result, & now there's nothing at all left to keep players at the club. Massive shame, they still have plenty of top prospects but I can't see them ever fulfilling the potential they had as a club only 12 months ago.

Koeman has a track record of being savvy in the African market. I've heard they are in for Rigoberts Songs brother Redemption

clayton to the saints for a ridiculous amount?
at least they haven't been relegated and had to sell off their prize assets for less than they are worth. 4 million for ricky after his goals have got them where they wanted to be is a absolute gem of a deal for them.
its tough on the supporters but they are what they are and 3/4 very good seasons in a row is a massive bonus from where they were. 100 million plus all the premiership money and possibly a shitload of relegation cash should, if done properly, set them up to come straight back and be better prepared financially for it.

But are they "gems of deals" for Southampton fans if most of the coin is going to be trousered by the chairperson before she fucks off home.... Money is a useless commodity if you can't spend it

I wonder if Southampton are considering withdrawing from the Premier League and starting a 5-a-side league with Blackpool?
