It's not breach of contract! Is that in his contract? I only asked at the time because in some circumstances it would be.I also for the record would like to see him fully fit and back playing for Town. I would guess that the club maybe the instigators of this and even if not, it is in the club's interest to have players free from the demons of addiction and being able to concentrate fully on his job as a professional footballer and particularly for a club that claims to be a community one.

Football clubs don't chuck good players away whenever they can help it. It's hard enough for a team of our size to compete week in and week out with teams benefiting from parachute payments as it is.
Hammill has only missed about 2 months. It's possible a Dr signed him off sick due to addiction (if, a huge if, that is what it is!), which wouldn't be a breach of contract anyway. His injury record prior to this was superb, having played 45 games last year in all competitions.
As Doc mentioned, Town are a "community club" and one would suspect do everything possible to help him out regardless of ability. With Hammill scoring 4 and assisting with 10 (!) goals last season, he'll be given every opportunity possible. You can help sort out a lot of addictions, often it's a lot simpler than dealing with injuries such as the ones Vaughan suffers from.

Surely being an alcoholic is breach of contract if your an athlete? Same as smoking and drugs Depends whats in your contract i suppose. If it says 'dont become an alcoholic' and you do then yeah it is i suppose Is there any truth to any of this anyway or is it the usual case of someones put summat on twitter and therefore its FACT

footballers contracts surely have clauses for the player making himself intentionally unfit to play? Lord knows how you cover for a player who says he is 'mentally unfit' to play...I would suggest that same as most professional jobs you go on half pay after a set time and then on no pay after that but can return to your paid contract as and when deemed 'able' to do so?. I also assume the employer can get you to see a number of professionals who will deem you unfit to return properly and then they can terminate your contract completely?
I do hope they get treated the same as anyone else..given a fair chance and then have to find something else to do.

Where's this alcoholism theory come from? Thought he was suffering from a few knocks?

It's a funny carry on me thinks. It's not really is it. He suffered with alcoholism and the club have clearly supported him (and rightly so). It's happened, he's back training, playing reserve games, move on.

Don't think he has played a development game yet, according to Tog he was down to play against Brum on Monday, but didn't even make the bench.

Assuming that he has not been playing because of an addiction, in a similar vein, an American baseball player has just served a ban of over 150 games. He has returned to the roster of the NY Yankees. If he had not been let back, they would owe him $61 million, per his original contract. So, we should think ourselves lucky that Hamill is on such a relatively cheap contract.

If these rumours are true I`d like to think he`ll soon be back on the road to recovery and back playing because I rate him.

I'd have got shot after Paramedic-gate but the club stood by him.
If he is having genuine problems now then the club are right to stick by him throughout. A massive line between getting lashed up and acting like a twat or being under the misery of clinical addiction.
Not a clue about the '5 months' hints. Would certainly imply a ban of some kind. Let's hope not given what could have possibly instigate one of those.

He's got no chance of getting a game for at least 5 months Hammill? Are you suggesting what I think you're suggesting? Sorry mate no, I quoted the post I did as I was meaning the baseball player(not Hammill) has no chance of playing for at least 5 months as the season has now finished & doesn't start again until the start of April. Certainly not suggesting any sort of inside knowledge about a potential ban for AH
