I have been to the Rijeka ground and you can watch the game from the roadside at the top of the cliff.

Great photo, looks like the 1960's. Long before all the trees became mature. The cinder, triangular car park on the left was the "rope-walk" in the early 1900's. Rope was twisted there over a 100 yard stretch.

The floodlights would date it post 1961, paid for by the sale of Denis Law.
To think the Beatles could have been number 1 when that was taken.

You've not been to the Faroe Isles Oti? Surely a man of your international stature would have assisted in the drafting of their constitution before handgliding off a mountain with the President's daughter.......

Rope was twisted there over a 100 yard stretch. It was as late as the early 70s when ICI and Ravensthorpe School embarked on a tree and grass planting programme on Kilner Bank to prove the land was safe. So this pic could be well into late 70s. Of course, they had to import grass from Canada that was tolerant to high levels of copper to ensure their success, as well as ignoring that Kilner Bank is typically upwind of what was the "ICI Cancer".

The TV gantry and the little addition to the main stand are present, so this should give an indication of date, but not to me.

Approximately 1976, the white car is a vauxhall chevette mark 1.
Also the flagpoles were put up at the Bradley Mills end for the Mud concert.

When we played first season in 1st division all the footage was from that side. Also 2nd season can remember when we beat beeston the cameras were on terrace side. Not sure what year they moved to t'other side.

I dont count the Fairies, Danish autonomous region and all that. Only missing 3 countries in Europe.....Iceland (the clue is in the name), Albania (no great loss) and Cyprus....i plan a little 5 day trip there in October. As for daughters, theirs will be a Prime Minister methinks with the Queen of Denmark head of state....now a Princess would be a good catch....tally-ho!!!!

Yeh, cant see the power for the trolley buses that stopped about 1967. I based my guess on the dearth of cars....wish it was like that now.

The tax disc on the Chevette is Nov 1977 As if any Chevette had a tax disc you could see other than one on the floor in the passenger footwell! I put it as June '76, there's no CB aerial, but there is a metal coat hanger to receive broadcast radio. Actually, '75, it doesn't look sunny enough for '76.

Oh yeah, they went over to Bradley and turned around there. I must admit though, I didn't know it was so extensive - look at the map of routes on here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolleybuses_in_Huddersfield

.... also, the players trained in that parking lot on the left. Can you believe it ? Jimmy Nicholson, captain of George Best and Northern Ireland, Colin Dobson, Frank Worthington et al., honing their skills on cinder and pot-holed asphalt. It was f-kin disgraceful, but I got autographs anyway, so what did I care.

The main thing I remember about the trollybuses was how quiet they were. And, no doubt, in this age of Global warming, carbon capture, and green energy requirement, the nett amount of energy consumed (as well as being much cleaner than fossil fuels) was more beneficial to the environment.... Against that, of course, there were miles of wires strung along the streets -- so, as ever, you pays your money etc.etc. Great photo of the old ground - brings back many happy memories - but it had to go.... UTT

In the late 70s, I'm sure you used to to be able to see old "train lines" breaking through the tarmac that had been slapped on top, at the bus terminus by Lady of Lourdes Junior School (other side of the woods from All Saints).
Trolley buses had "normal tyres". So was their an extensive tram service prior that in the town also, or is my memory playing up about the tracks?
Is the old (recently restored) bus stop shelter thing on Halifax Road at Edgerton a trolley bus stop or a tram stop?

Oh dear God I was at that failure. why what happened? I think they were hoping for 15,000+ to turn up. I went with a couple of other town fans I knew back then, but I think they only got around 2000 people there so was a bit of disaster. Also with so few people there the atmosphere was a bit like being at a town game around that time. Can't remember the full line up, but Geordie, sweet sensation, showaddywaddy and mud were I think performing . Tried searching and can't find any details of who else was on. Think next concert I went to was to see Barclay James Harvest , a few months later,in Bradford.

Is the old (recently restored) bus stop shelter thing on Halifax Road at Edgerton a trolley bus stop or a tram stop? Before my time but I understand there was an extensive tram system round Hudds. I'm told that the shelter that you mention WAS a tram shelter. Apparently Somerset Road (to Almondbury) was created to allow trams a straight(ish) run to the village from Town - previously the main route to Almonbury was up A.Bank. There are quite a few photographs of trams and tram routes on a facebook page "Old Photo's of Hudds" which may be of interest..
