To be fair, I never get more than a couple of paragraphs into any of the articles before giving up thinking "I don't really care." But I did think it was well produced over the past few seasons - wasn't it award winning or is that a few seasons back now? I've always had a free copy so haven't really had much desire to read it and never buy programmes home or away.

So basically its a matter of, a few people have commented to him that they would buy a programme if it was cheaper and less adverts, so to do that they have found the cheapest way of creating the programme. I bet that programme cost them no more than a couple of pence to produce.
I tell you what Sean, if you want to listen to the fans so much, explain to those 12000 fans in there today what they got for their 500 pounds season ticket, explain why we have not improved the squad in the weakest areas from last season, and we are still playing with combinations like Wells and Ward, who proved last season that they could not play together, why are we consistently selling our best players, and then buying cheap replacements who are not a half of the player they are replacing and expect us to keep on surviving in the Championship, explain to me EXACTLY why Harry Bunn was given a new contract when he is clearly not going to feature in the first team, explain to me why Ross Wilson couldnt find a good player if one bit him on the arse yet he is made a director of the football club, explain to me why we have given Ward a new contract on thousands of pounds a week when it was clear after THREE years with the football club that he is simply not good enough, explain why the standard of football is dropping by the game and why players are being played in wrong positions in the first game of the season.
Maybe if you answer those questions, I might consider getting a season ticket next season with the other 7 of us that didnt renew, but until then, the 500 quid plus travel, drinks, programmes and everything else, adding up to well over a grand a season just for home games, will be spent on a lovely 2 week holiday in Italy.

Content-wise it was miles better than anything we've ever had, so they should be applauded for that. Format-wise absolutely shocking. What happens when it rains? On a side issue, I noticed that very few of the players have a sponsor sorted for this year. Indicative of current feeling towards the club or just an out-dated idea?

this is what the fans wanted apparently. awful in my opinion. guess the price drop is what people said they wanted. goes to show you can "listen to what people want" too much. which fans wanted a cheap newspaper as our programme? Was there a poll done by the club or have they just made up a load of rubbish that fans supposedly wanted this? I heard it was the fans based in Mirfield / Batley / Cleck etc that wanted it.

Basically £2 for a newspaper which should retail at 50p. What's annoyed me is that; it is NOT a programme but a newspaper supplement type paper one usually receives free on a sunday. The club has again insulted the fans intelligence buy charging £2 and making it out to be a cheap football programme which of course it is not. Another own goal, and my last purchase. STOP taking the piss out of your supporters...it is backfiring!

Who wants to hold a newspaper throughout a football match? Looks like shit by the time you've got it home. Bought a programme all my life. Oh well... another saving!

I'll stick up for the programme in terms of content - if they used a "Sunday supplement" style paper a presentation it would be better. It looks a bit like a free newspaper in it's current style. I think many people are missing the point. I see that some have said they only buy 1 program a year, so appear hardly to be experts in the matter but the point that I think people are missing is that the club are open to change and are willing to try new ideas. Yes all these ideas might not take off and clearly this is likely to be one of them but at least the club are trying new ideas, rather than just carrying on. For those that chose to read closely within the program/periodical/newspaper/town organ they will have seen that there are other ideas in pipeline, such as a dedicated Town App, own TV channel within the ground, electronic advertising hoardings. So I think it is a little unfair where people are being vitriolic in their criticism but that is only my perception and sometimes perceptions are wrong. I am sure they will be the first to own up if they get it wrong but at least they are trying new ideas.

Like WTD i have bought a programme every game for 40 odd years and much to the wife's dismay i have 2 filing cabinets full of the things. A comprehensive collection of my clubs history over the last 60 years. This effort is a disgrace and yet another example of how the game is changing for the worse - i really hope other clubs don't follow suit. I would suggest that most people who buy them collect them so where this bullshit about listening to the fans who wanted something disposable came from baffles me. Coupled with our pathetic performance on the pitch made us look very out of touch yesterday. And then we get tog terrier on the pitch before the game trying to sell it to us as some cutting edge genious idea and a bargain at 2 quid just emphasised the patronising crap that comes out of the club at times. I had a rant at half time saying that The Sun only costs about 40p and at least you get tits in that. I had to qualify that of course because our 'matchday programme' was indeed full of tits.

Me and my old man also collect programmes of games we attend. At least if robins stays in charge I won't be adding to my collection with this piece of crap. How you can charge £2 for what is ultimately that free pull out you used to get in the examiner is beyond me.

I agree. I think most fans were thinking the cost of programmes is too expensive. I stopped buying them years ago. I bought one yesterday and quite enjoyed reading it. Will I buy one at the Charlton game, that will depend on whether I can be bothered to turn up (just the like the players yesterday)!!.

Of course we like the club to try new things - (it would have been nice to see a change of tactics on the pitch yesterday!) But surely as fans then we are entitled to an opinion on the said change, I can't think who could possibly have thought that it was a change for the better, more profitable no doubt but a drastic downgrade in quality terms. I did hope once the fans meetings started bad ideas like this would be eradicated. I have applauded the club on the many good things they do and I would hope my opinion is just as valid when I think the club have made a mistake. Changing things for changes sake isn't always a worthwhile exercise.

I thought it was alright, more pages with more stuff and its cheaper, fans said cheaper programs, club listened. Do you all realise how lucky we are to follow a club that listens to us and makes changes, especially changes that involve lowering prices. My only improvement would be the back page as a more traditional list of home and away squad numbers.

I had a rant at half time saying that The Sun only costs about 40p and at least you get tits in that. I had to qualify that of course because our 'matchday programme' was indeed full of tits. Well I accept that there are some that do regularly collect programs but it appeared that some of the vitriolic criticism came from those who stated that they only had previously brought one program. The point I was making which seems to have been missed was at least the club are trying to look for something different, which may not always work out, and which this is likely to be one of the failures. The decision to change came from the ATT Panel and Voices Panel Online Survey. But the decision to choose the new type of publication was the Clubs AND NOT has some have mentioned ATT. ATT and Voices gave the feedback on the old program, the club decided on the new program. The club also recognised that it wasn't without risks and also accepted that some fans chose to collect programs. But this came in the face of declining program sales and rising costs. There is no longer the choice of collecting online versions which financially did not make sense but as an expat worker it was great to be able to get a copy when overseas. These were the issues that were raised
• A reduced selling price from the existing amount of £3
• Fewer adverts
• More exclusive content which wasn't easily accessible from other mediums such as twitter/facebook/htafc.com etc
• More up to date content, including an up to date Championship league table
• Something which was more friendly in terms of carrying to and from matches as the existing publication was quite bulky
In the context of declining sales and rising programme costs and the feedback, we have decided to have consider and propose a radical change in the publication for next season changing it from a magazine to the style of a newspaper. This would see the following changes:
• The price of the publication will drop from £3 to £2 – meaning a 33% drop in price from last season
• Full colour newspaper style - The look and feel would change from a glossy magazine to an everyday paper
• The page sizes will increase - meaning the amount of pages in total will decrease to 44, resulting in it being less bulky and easier to handle
• A bigger page area will also see a 60% increase in available content
• The content and price mean the value for money will increase hugely
• The proportion of adverts would reduce
• The popular children’s pull out would be enhanced to be bigger
• The page size offers more opportunities for better use of photos and poster options too
• We will be changing our print suppliers – meaning the print deadline for a Saturday match is now a Friday rather than a Wednesday, resulting in the publication being far more up to date than it has been before
• More exclusive content will be in the publication, not just a different look and feel as in previous years
• The product will be more disposable which is in line with the customer trend to use it and discard afterwards. As not many collect but we appreciate some fans still do
We realise this is a ground-breaking change and isn't without risk (no other club has taken this step), but feel with the feedback we received from the ATT Voices Panel that this change will be a positive one and reinvigorate the matchday experience.

Maybe that would have been a good place to start ie with those that actually buy the thing. How many people actually contributed to the debate on the voices panel i wonder - 20? 200? 2000? I suspect nearer 20 myself. How many of those who got what they wanted will now buy this pathetic effort every week do you think? Not very many i reckon. There'll be no advertising revenue from it if no-one buys it. Big gaff Mr Jarvis.

Looking at the sponsor page I bet Calderdale carpets are gutted today

The club should be looking to turn those folk into ten or twenty purchases a season, not making both them and a big proportion of the "buy every game" folk decide to become "no purchase at all ever" people. Its rubbish. Anyone can see that.

As not many collect but we appreciate some fans still do
We realise this is a ground-breaking change and isn't without risk (no other club has taken this step), but feel with the feedback we received from the ATT Voices Panel that this change will be a positive one and reinvigorate the matchday experience.I'm clearly out of touch because I've never heard of The ATT or The Voices Panel. I could be wrong but i don't remember reading anything in the actual match day programme last season about them thinking about changing it. Im another who won`t be adding mine to the collection

Hoyle made his millions from selling cheap cards/tack so we shouldn't be surprised at this, particularly as most of the stuff sold in the club shop is cheap rubbish. Look for the Tog 24 polos and T's.....
