Boro fan here. Always enjoy a trip to the Mac but have to agree with the consensus that a newspaper programme idea is probably one of the, if not the, worst football marketing ideas I've come across in around 45 years of going to football. I personally never really feel I've actually attended a game unless I've bought a programme but would undoubtedly have to review the strategy if my own club was to introduce them. No need to go into reasons as most have already been adequately covered in this thread. Very disappointing and a great shame many people will remember their visit to HTFC not so much for the otherwise enjoyable matchday experience as the fact the club had a newspaper masquerading as a programme. There again, I guess any publicity is good publicity, as they say Good luck for the rest of the season.

Who came up with this stupid idea its total tat ive always bought a programme but not anymore if its like this one not worth 50p never mind 2 quid wld come 92nd in english lge football. We are asked to overpay for a tat prgramme and to watch crap football hard work supportin town in last couple of yrs. Got to admit it's a really crap product for 2 quid, can't get why they don't scrap it.

Surely this was introduced because the Town fans won`t buy the glossy programmes even though any profits go to the club. They will buy beer and food even though minimal profit will "eventually" reach Town. It would be easier to simply add, say,£1 to each ticket but most of supporters would go bananas.
We are not getting enough bums on seats and it must worry Deano.

Maybe an A4 photocopied single piece of paper would suffice, Sky Bet advert one side, teams other?

Maybe an A4 photocopied single piece of paper would suffice, Sky Bet advert one side, teams other? It's a real conundrum. I'm not a regular programme buyer, I used to buy them but the simple fact is, the information contained within is generally already available on the internet. I'd rather spend a couple of quid on Golden Gamble tickets, even though I will probably never win it.

Problem seems to be the match day program has expanded from the original 18 page one from the 60'sand 70's into a match day magazine. From 3d to £3. It has become too bulky for many, it doesn't fit in a pocket and too thick to fold..also the size of the 'magazine' now means it is more costly to produce and maintain and is thus full of already available info... To me it has gone beyond what the purpose was. The replacement though is a joke... So, what i would like to see it the magazine scrapped, and a match day program brought back...smaller in size..less pages..cheaper.and more relevant and more up to date..and fits in your pocket. here's what a typical program from 1961 gave you front cover - action shot..today opponents..date of game inside cover - adverts page 1 - table of contents page 2 - spotlight on todays game ..advert for train travel to away games page 3 - advert page 4 - spotlight cont'd..advert for coach travel to away games page 5 - league tables...reserves league tables page 6 - appearances and goals scored by town players page 7 - Bill carter introduced the opposition . profile of opposing players page 8 - todays teams page 9 - adverts page 10 - todays fixtures page 11 - towns results/fixtures - 1st team and reserves page 12 - 25 years ago...write up on a game from same day 25 yrs ago page 13 - reserves appearances and goalscorers page 14 - editorial on the league, league leading goalscorers. supporters assoc notes page 15 - adverts page 16 - adverts page 17- adverts page 18 - adverts other info provided was a list of the town players..birthplace/date of birth..next game... that cost 3d in old money..and provided plenty enough of what anyone ever needed to know. I think we've lost sight of this and should return to an old style (5.5" x 8.5") program instead of trying to win awards for the biggest and best (and most expensive). We might even produce one that replicates the program from 50 years ago...it would be a novel feature , easier to produce, cheaper and probably quite collectable. Maybe try it for a season ... What do you think

I'd rather see a thinner glossy proper programme again with a few articles in it, in a stylish cover.
Bet we are a laughing stock to other clubs with this nonsense.

Not only a new low for the team tonight but one also for this pathetic rag.
There's no "f" in Huddersfield apparently (page 11). No "f" in team either I'm afraid.

Given that the club wasn't making an y money on the old programme format I'd guess at £2 a pop they are now and it'll be here to stay. Plenty of other clubs will be watching with interest as well I'd bet.

What do you think When i was a kid in the 60's (brought up as a Charlton fan), the programme always included Football league Review, published fortnightly by the football league. it gave a great perspective of all things english football. Used to have a 'Pen Friend' section where you could exchange programmes with fellow footie fans, mine was in Leeds so he used to send me all the Leeds programmes and i'd send all the Charlton progs to him. In this day and age it would likely lead to grooming!! The internet/sky tv has killed news media for football fans

Very collectible these days, but the first year ones are a bugger to find!

For years I have always ordered the first and last home match programmes. Forgot on opening day so I received today the issue covering Boro and Forest. What a load of crap it is. Far too bulky. I remember the old programmes from the 50s and 60s. Cheap, said all that needed saying and easy to store. I doubt I shall be ordering any more. I do not want a ruddy newspaper, I want a football programme.

Don't like it at all, Nick. Of course, though, as a collector, I WILL be buying the final home one of the season, because that's what I do. Know lots of people who are NOT buying though.

I had a quick glance around on my way to my seat on Tuesday and there seemed to be barely anyone with one.
fair enough to make the decision that the £3 glossy magazine needed a change if it wasn't cost effective, but whoever thought this would be better has made a right blunder IMO.
15 pages- no colour, no gloss, just basics and sell for £1.
At the very worst it would pay for itself but id be very surprised if it didn't make the club some money. Id get one and I never usually do and there must be plenty of others like me.
