Ooooo, get her!! I can't tell you how much Im laughing at how angry you are. Partly because you tried to come over all smart telling me what a mare I was having, but yet apparently haven't been able to grasp what this conversation was about. And partly because even when my point has finally been accepted by the charlton fan -ie- that there actually were CAFC fans who wanted Curbishley out and there is actually evidence of that, you still stay on your high horse with your high opinion of yourself and can't bring yourself to admit you've been totally missing the fucking point all along!!! the only people Ive called an idiot on this thread are the charlton fan who thought it was shit when they were winning League 1, and the charlton fans who wanted curbishley out. I could call you one too as you've certainly acted like one, but i can tell you're very cross and wouldn't want to upset you further. Next time you jump in to tell me Im having a mare, you might want to think it through a bit more, so when it turns out I was right you won;t look such a prick. Nice hypocrisy about my passive aggressive style though. I wasn't going to bother responding, so i ignored the last response you made to me. But then you made a snide little comment a few hours later so I thought I'd respond in kind. I prefer a cold debate but you seem to enjoy a heated argument, as you kept swearing, in particular saying 'For Fucks Sake' as an exclamation mark, a classic tactic used to bolster threadbare arguments. My attempts at debating with you went over your head, so I resorted to arguing in an attempt to pierce the vainglorious bubble you seem to exist in. A bubble so dense that you don't even realise this is a separate argument to the one you're having with the Charlton fan, despite me spelling it out in clear English several times; namely the arrogance that you think you know more about his club than he does and won't even countenance his opinion. You haven't made anything approaching a coherent response to this argument so I'll just assume you don't have one. My comment about your passive aggressive style is not hypocrisy, I hadn't been aggressive up until the last point but I thought I'd respond in kind as you only seem interested in arguing. I admire your relentlessness, but you remind me of the Dismembered Knight in Monty Python who keeps advancing after having his arms chopped off. You say you're winning the argument - I've had 10 likes for my comments towards you and you've had 0 for your comments to me, so the silent majority appear to be on my side. I even had 1 for dropping the c-bomb on you despite it being a bit beyond the pale on here (rightly so), so make of that what you will. I won't be responding any more on this so feel free to go for a few more snide comments; you might even manage to land one now I've given you a free hit.

Seems your argument has changed from being a smart arse when you thought I was wrong, to having a big sulk when you realised I was right. FFS And for the record , at no point did I think i know more about his club than he does. Didn't even imply that so stop making crap up. I thought , no KNEW, there were lots of Charlton fans calling in to the radio wanting AC out. There were. And i thought he was wrong when he said there was no evidence of any anti AC feeling- and there is. If you or the people who like your posts don't like that, then who gives a shit. i know I don't.

Dear God, Cptn Picard has beamed me back down and it is still going on. It's going round again. I feel I owe Huddersfield fans an apology because I pitched up here to celebrate Chris Powell's appointment, I then committed the cardinal error of wanting to set the record straight regarding Alan Curbishley. I tried reporting my experience as a Charlton fan, engaged with the scant evidence presented, denied that loads of our fans bombarded phone ins demanding Curbs removal. I have tried logic, I have tried my feeble attempts at humour, I have tried developing stuff in other areas. And none of it has worked. I have been accused that my points are motivated by embarrassment and shame, our general present status as a club has also been somewhat derided as well, and I have also been invited to remove a pool ball from my arse. This thread has been hijacked by my attempts, and the fan who says leave it alone and call it a draw has made a good point I thought. I seem to have prodded a person who simply can't move on gracefully from the fray and I want to say I am sorry to Captain slapper for causing other fans to comment on his behaviour however right they are. Please allow this thread to return to the subject of Chris Powell. I am biased, but I hope you're all going to like the cut of his jib. Right...off to Dulwich Hamlet for non league day.

Charlton fan in peace. Must confess I haven't read much of the thread so don't know how many of us you've had (I know the last chap was drawn into some football-forum-argument.)
Re CP: You've got yourself a real good'n - character and football-wise. The vast majority of Charlton fans were VERY sad to see him go - would have achieved a lot if given the chance and money (and pitch) after our new owner came in. He refused to play all the Belgian players the owner tried to force on him (much respect for that - and it cost him his job). Always honest with and hugely respected by players and fans (and local press). I see a few of you mentioning about ideally having had a northerner in to whip up the team and city - if any southerner can do this, it's CP.
Football-wise, he did remarkably too - won us the league (comfortably) with an only decent team, led us to 9th with a terrible team and no money, and would've kept us up when we really should've gone down, had he been given the chance. He worked with Sven at Leicester, and Sven has always said amazing things about him. A lot of Charlton fans will be looking out for your results now - best of luck for the season! You won't be disappointed.
(And just to chime in on the Curbishley point - the number of fans who were calling for him to go/were happy that he went, were a TINY TINY minority. They were also stupid, as the rest of us knew that at the time. Us giving the new man (D*wie) the £20 odd million to spend instead of Curbishley, is perhaps the only galling thing the previous board did in a decade. Unfortunately, it was the one thing that cost us 20 years of hard work, relagting and bankrupting our then established Premier League club. Oh well.)

This thread is now at 31 pages. It's about our new manager. The last two pages are not about our new manager they are about two people arguing about something that happened years ago which didn't involve our new manager. You both seem reasonable people. Any chance we can call it a draw? I'd take that as a no

Im not saying it was logical. it wasn't. You keep saying there isn't any evidence, like you think all CAFC fans were right behind Curbs when he left. All i can do for evidence is give you anecdotal things like remembering loads of CAFC fans on talksport ( unfortunately I forgot to record them) and find you articles from both fans and journos backing up that view. What sort of evidence do you need? Signed statements from fans involved? recordings of disgruntled conversations in pubs? All you're doing is calling it an urban myth and dismissing all the evidence that supports it as just perpetuating that myth. Well problem is , it clearly wasn't a myth! Those callers on the radio weren't actors. The fans writing those articles aren't on a wind up. You might not have agreed, but there were clearly plenty that had stopped supporting him. Perhaps you can prove you're right. Find me the evidence that all he fans were right behind him ( you know- that myth) , get me recordings of all those CAFC fans phoning up Talksport to demand that he stays at the club? Is this some kind of self- defence mechanism to get over the embarrassment of a lot of your fans wanting and getting Curbs out and then spiralling down 2 divisions as a result? Hello again captain. I know it is weird since we spoke a long time ago, but there is an interview with Alan Curbishley published last Saturday 8th August 2015, so his words can be added to your knowledge. Curbishley says, in Voice of the Valley (following a short preamble):
...What Curbishley doesn't accept is that his departure had anything to do with rumblings from supporters, an idea which has become a regular media refrain over the ensuing years. "I think it was something that perhaps got made up a little bit. there was an occasion when some fans got on talkSPORT and had a go, after which my elder brother got on and retaliated. I think what happened is that the expectation became to finish in the top half. That was Richard's aim (Richard Murray then chairman). I kept saying to him that the top half was a magnificent achievement. What got to the fans was the way we tailed off a few times. And it got to me, I must admit, trying to work out why that happened and how to correct that. But I never really felt there was any kind of 'Curbs out' feeling or 'You don't know what you're doing' chants or that sort of thing. I think that was something that was made up in the media. I never felt it, and now whenever I bump into a Charlton fan I get real warmth from them so I've got no problem'
Hope that helps.
