It wasn't an argument, I stated an opinion. You used a pie in the sky signing, put a realistic name down and ask the same question.. My answer would be no sign a centre half as that is where we are desperately short. We can sort other positions later if necessary. I'd argue a front man is more of a priority. No doubt Vaughan will be injured soon. But I wouldn't be STUPID enough to pass over a quality centre half in the meantime if one became available A much more SENSIBLE and well constructed reply.

Yorkie show us the way to your money tree ....bell? Don't respond just resort to insults... Wow ! Brilliant. The transfer market is about opportunities that come up and if this has not been stated by the club on numerous occasions I don't know what has. I'm sure the club are aware of our weaknesses and will look for another opportunity to strengthen when and if it comes. In the mean time .....chill Winston

I'm sure I read somewhere today that Dean is due to attend a forthcoming supporters meeting, any chance you can get to that Ciyorkie? Ask him this in the flesh? Instead of regurgitating the same subject over and over on here.
I guess hidden behind the headlines in that recent story in which wigan were bemoaning the fact that they cannot compete financially with the recently relegated clubs, was the fact that they were struggling to find a striker for the right price. I'm presuming they are in a better position than us money-wise and yet they are finding that picking decent players up from out of nowhere is tough to do.

Lynch,Gerard, Wallace , Peltier, Smith, Coady(eng u21) I think that's 6 without the Pathway players And how good is the defence ? The first three have ben at the club long enough to have proven that they are not at the required level. What a load of utter horseshit. You gonna start calling these people telling them what we should do when you clearly haven't got the first fecking clue what youre talking about.

It's a question of quality for me. Or rather pace and quality. I can't see the point of getting a CB to make up the numbers. We've already got the numbers. A permanent signing of the quality I and most of us would like, would cost £1.5-2m. Unless we find a hidden gem in Europe. UK based players are over priced and well scouted by all. Then you get to the real cost. Wages. A striker on Loan is the only other business I can see us doing this window.
We could move Smith inside I suppose. It would give us more pace in the centre. But we would have to sacrifice Wallace, who has been doing well so far this season.

You can ignore some on here. Some are just moany bastards who moan because basically they are just moany bastards.
They even complain when you sign an England Under 21 international so just ignore.

Does that tell you the club don't think we need anyone central? Simple, no it does not. It says the club feel we need another option at left back, and someone that fits the bill became available.

Can't ignore the fact we giving goals away for fun this season. I'm not sure a new left back alone will fix that (I really don't think Dixon is that bad, in fact I thought he had a great game on sat).
There is perhaps no weakest link amongst our current central defenders - they're possibly all on a par, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, but the goals against column says we need something better
Hopefully this and the striker situation will be sorted sooner rather than later so we can pull clear of that bottom 3.

A great set of different views and opinions which is good and I take the point re. If someone else comes up in a different position who is is quality should not necessarily be overlooked.
Shame the replies have so many insults mixed in rather than just a reply.
Now where is that new centre half hiding ?!

You watched gerrard last season and came to the conclusion he isn't good enough for this level. Its hard to reply without questioning your cluelessness!

To say "we should be signing a centre half before any other position" is pretty daft to be fair.
If a good player becomes available and you can get him you get him, we're not so high and mighty we can have too many good players. We know we need a centre half and a striker, the club will know as well but just because Robinson has come in doesn't mean we aren't trying for others as well. I'd rather we got the right one than get someone in for the sake of it. I'd imagine we won't do anything until the loan window when clubs will have got their deadline day deals done and know who they can let out.

Either way, even from 5,000 miles away I can see we need a CB!

Fully agree that there's no point signing someone unless they're a good upgrade on what we have, but the bolded part clearly isn't necessarily the case. People were panicking that we'd definitely need to spend £1.5m+ to adequately replace Clayton but we got Coady for £375k (plus Butterfield and a wad of cash into the bargain). Early days, but it's looking very good. And obviously we didn't pay anything like £1.5m for Clayton himself in the first place! There'll have been players out there every summer who went for little and turned out to be very good Championship centre-backs (Reading paid £250k for Morrison to use a familiar example). Obviously it's not easy to identify the right ones and you need a bit of luck, but it can be done and I imagine that'd be more the route we'd be looking at rather than paying £1.5m-2m for a 'Championship ready-made' (who can flop just as easily - look at the fees paid for the likes of Matt Mills in the past).

Id say a striker is more of a priority, never been Gerrards biggest fan but rekon there could be a decent partnership in him and Lynch if they can get a run of games together. The club are clearly looking for a cb so we need to be patient.
